Chandler Jones Traded

Plus they saved a lot o money.... I am happy they have 5 picks in top 100?

Jones was overrated and didn't show up when needed. A good player but I'd take the 2nd and a player too. Resign Wendell have scar coach them up and we should be set at OL. Maybe draft a tackle to replace Cannon sorry ass but other than that focus on defense, WR and TE.

Hell with this move we have enough cap and picks to make some more splashes. Would love to see long and lauranitis signed and maybe trade for a wr. Get blount back on cheap and draft his replacement. If he still looks like **** cut him after camp.

about $3m.

Chandler was counting 7.79M against the Cap.
Cooper will count 2.38M against the Pats cap. That's a 5.4M savings..

I honestly felt like Jones destiny was written when we took 2 DE-like players somewhat highly on the last draft.

G. Grisson (3rd round)
D. Flowers (4th round)

If any of then can emerge, we save A LOT of money without Jones. Like people have said:

Collins, Butler and Hightower are more important IMO

this trade clears $5.41M in 2016. Pats now have 11 picks in upcoming draft.

I like this trade quite a bit. We were never going to re-sign Jones, and even franchising him would have been prohibitive at the DE rate. So the Pats pick up a 2nd rounder and Cooper for one year of Jones and likely a pick at the end of the 3rd round in 2017? I'll take it.

Plus this draft is pretty good on DL talent, we've got DE depth, and Easley can play some DE if needed.

Wouldn't the Cardinals get the comp pick instead?

now if the pats package picks and move up to 33 or 34 , that would be a nice middle finger to troy vincent.

Quick question: Cooper is a UFA next season, but can the Pats pick up his 5th year since he was a First Round pick? Or has that ship sailed?

Either way, franchising a guard is a lot cheaper than franchising a DE, but they might need that tag for Collins or Hightower.

Trade that 2nd round pick for gordon

I'd rather a 2017 2nd pick for Gordon instead of one this year... that way it could be conditional on Gordon not getting suspended again during the 2016 season.

Wow. I know ZERO about Cooper. I'm hearing Cooper has kinda been stinky. Please someone fill me in.

He was an extremely high-rated prospect (any guard that goes in the top half of the first round has to be), but broke his leg before he ever played a game. His career has been spotty at best since then, but there's still potential there to be really good.

He was supposed to be but got hurt his rookie year and never lived up to the hype. Can't say I'm a big fan of this trade but at least they addressed the interior OL and didn't just ship him for a pick.

This basically sums it up.
Cooper was supposed to be a stud interior lineman. Looked REALLY good his first camp until he got hurt in a preseason game(broken leg) Since then he has not looked very good. He was beaten out by Ted Larsen(ex Patriots cut) Or actually split reps with him. Hopefully Coop is fully healthy and lives up to his potential. I haven't been out to their site yet, but i am pretty sure no one on Arizona Sports fans Network is shedding any tears over Cooper being dealt. But in BB I trust. I would love to see Coop come in and play well. He can play both sides and also had some experience at center at UNC.

IIRC, the fifth year option has to be exercised before the player's fourth season, so that ship has sailed. Could be wrong though.

The pass rushing quartet of Sheard, Ninkovich, Long, and Flowers is going to be great.
Did Long sign?

I think Flowers is a talented kid. Hope he can stay healthy.

I suspect that they will draft a 4/3 DE 3/4 OLB type player.

Hmmm wonder if his little escapade this last season had any factor in this......But I think the trade is fine, as many have said he had become a streaky player. To bad, thought he was a good dude.

But Cooper is making $4,629,227, so that count against our cap no?

No. That was Cooper's cap hit in AZ. 2.24M of that number was pro-rated signing bonus.
His salary is $675K and he has a roster bonus that is 1.719M. So his cap hit for the Patriots would be 2.389M
