Patriots sign WR Chris Hogan

These are questions the realists ask....while the blind followers say "in BB we trust". Really major head shaking move here
Yeah, I mean, I don't know why the hell everbody doesn't follow Joe Blow from the message board over the most successful coach in the NFL. BB, what a fraud!! SMH

The thing is though, that it's not just "every Patriots fan who...", it's BB too. The WR's he drafts are fast 4.4 (or 4.3) guys who tend to be off the charts athletically. Athleticism does seem to be important to the organisation. Maybe that's where the disconnect exits and that the pool is too narrow to for guaranteed success. There are only so many smart WRs in the draft and only so many athletic WRs in the draft. Finding one that is both is always going to be tough.

Agreed. The prerequisite it seems is the 3-cone needs to come in under ~6.8. If you are above that your resume goes in the circular file.

Brady is almost 39. Why can't we find him a playmaking WR who can literally go up and make a play even if Brady doesn't make a perfect throw? I am not talking about breaking the bank and signing a superstar, but an Emanuel sanders level talent, who by the way was signed for fairly cheap.
Who was signed fairly cheap TWO YEARS AGO.

I find it hilarious when people bring up Sanders. I remember when the Pats tried to sign him when he was a RFA this is what he had done in the NFL

28 rec 376 yards 2 TD
22 rec 288 yards 2 TD
44 rec 620 yards 1 TD

That was in Pittsburgh's pass happy receiver friendly offense.

Chris Hogan last 2 years

41 rec 426 yards 4 TD
36 rec 450 yards 2 TD

It's also interesting that whilst Sanders has the edge athletically on Hogan, it's not by much, especially when you take into account Hogans's edge in terms of size.

dont know much about the guy...but frankly I didnt know much about dion lewis before Belicheck brought him here.

does he project as an outside receiver? I still would like to see the pats bring in Anquan boldin or james jones to round out the receiver corps

His numbers are similar in his first 3 years to Welker's. His drop rate is 6.8%, not awful.

I like him and think he fits better than most of the wr in this crappy fa class. If he gets the system, he will easily outperform Amendola imho. Anquan was/is my fav and I still wouldnt mind him or the draft(gulp).

Not bad so far. Now give me a rb so White can ONLY catch passes and basically any tackle. Vollmer and Cannon have this weird symbiotic thing where they together are our rt and that should probably end.

I believe he can play both inside and outside.

According to Howe, Hogan split his reps evenly 50/50 inside/outside.

Reminder: game 1-8 2015 Patriots consisting of a so-so running game, an ok OL, and with LaFell on IR were a pass offense juggernaut. They were likely the most potent pass offense in those first, approx. 8 games. Add Hogan, and Martin, to that first 8 games and it is eye opening how unstoppable the Patriots could have been. This is also a reminder of what happened when the Patriots got too thin on passing targets when injury hits.

Hogan plays inside, plays outside, has decent size, decent speed, decent hands, potential valuable STs contributions, and is presumably hitting the prime potential upswing period of his career. And he has put up decent numbers as a member of a team that has been notably inconsistent in its ability to be pass productive over a 16 game span. So one can argue we paid a higher premium than needed to sign him. One can argue he does not fill the conventional 2nd WR spot and we still need that filled. Outside of that I cannot understand why anyone would dislike this signing. His signing notably improves a 2015 Patriots team that when healthy probably walks away with the Lombardi.
((side note: we'll see what this means for DA, if anything. That could change the overall forecast at WR))

Not sure how you can say they had a "so-so" running game. The Pats game plan for the Jets and Bills was not to run the ball. Kinda like they did with the Ravens in the play-offs the previous year. I did up the stats in another post for the other 4 games of the 1st 6. Blount had a 5.2 YPC and Lewis was at 4.9 YPC.

And remember that Solder went down in the Dallas game. Cannon went down in the Indy game.

It's regrettable that they signed Sanders to such a low offer sheet. 2.5 million for one year (the Steelers had 2 million in cap space). I forgot what the Patriots' cap situation was when they signed Sanders to that offer sheet in April, but couldn't they have bumped the number of years and the dollar amount up a bit? Or were they a bit unsure about committing the years/money amount and the 3rd round pick that would've went to the Steelers had they declined to match?

LaFell who did nothing last year, probably due to injury, is replaced by Hogan and people are upset?? Pats could have done better or the FO does not know what they are doing??

Do not get any of the discontent.. the way this team is constructed right now is not the same team that the Pats will start the season with..

With Tyrod, Kyle and E.J. at QB. Not quite Moe, Larry and Shep but . . . pretty close.
