I think Hogan will be a Hero to all of his fans.
Hopefully, next year we won't be saying "I see nothing, NOTHING!" :)

Supposedly they didn't do that out of respect for Hogan.. Which speaks volumes about the Bills front office..
Plus, they know who their AFCE daddy is. ;)

Watching some clips of Hogan he reminds me of Miles Austin, another Monmouth WR.

Bill fans will remember this day when Rex Ryan is fired.

Hogan, on paper, is the WR I've always wanted to see in New England. Big, quick, fast, smart, lunch pail kind of guy. I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up a YUGE cog in this offense.

Awesome. Calling it right now, he's going to be an excellent Patriot. We got him cheap for this WR market, and in a couple years we'll be looking back on him as a total steal. He's a great fit here.

I hope so! Could he win a race against one of my people???

Not surprised one bit. Bills are probably LFTAO at that offer....
Sanu has worse stats and got five years with twice the AAV, im sorry not every guy can get the veterans minimum.

slot type guy who can also play a bit outside but has issues holding onto the ball, he will fit right in :D

He played 50% of his reps outside. That's more than "can also play a bit outside".

yeah I know, it was just a joke. Hopefully he can take over that role Lafell had in 14 and was supposed to have in 15.

We have now cornered the market on white receivers.

When we break the scoring record next year, the nickname for our offense will be "White Lightning"

We really need to see hogan in camp before making any predictions, especially since he is probably the fourth or fifth option in our offense behind gronkowski, Edelman, amendola and Lewis when he returns.

He needs to learn the playbook and develop some thick skin because every time he lines up wrong or runs the wrong route, Brady will be barking at him.

I think bb overpaid for the guy, but hopefully it will be worth it in early February 2017.

Can we trade Lewis for woodhead? Jk but if shaq mason and Lewis ever get subbed out you will have 10 whiteguys and a guy named white on offense

Wait what? What?!!?!

Don't you know the rules...no....the LAW about white guys who play wide receiver, defensive back, or basketball (or black guys who play QB)?

You may only compare them to other white guys! (Or black guys if it's a black QB).

So you must compare him to Wes and Amendola and Jules. But they're too small, so....Eric Decker! That'll do, tall physical and white. Nevermind that they don't have similar skills or backgrounds, follow the law!

In all seriousness, thank you for doing actual brain work and using your brain to find a connection that took a small amount of effort, instead of the lazy connection. I can see Miles Austin, physical and athletic receivers who play big.

How about Joe Horn? Came from nowhere, played special teams and caught a few for an ok Chiefs passing attack, then goes to New Orleans and is a key to an excellent passing attack. Yup, that seals it, Hogan is gonna make multiple Pro Bowls with the NEP!

I really want to like this signing. But these two bits really pop out of this recap:

Film review: Hogan versatility should mesh with Patriots

Hogan recorded five dropped passes out of a total of 41 catchable balls thrown his way in 2015, according to Pro Football Focus. That's a 12.2 percent drop rate. He also averaged 3.0 yards after the catch in 2015, which ranked near the bottom of the league in terms of receivers who played at least 25 percent of their teams' snaps. Hogan would have ranked fifth on the Patriots in that category last season behind Brandon LaFell (6.4), Julian Edelman (5.2), Danny Amendola (4.0) and Keshawn Martin (3.1).

Sounds like a combo of the worst of Llyod and Lafell. Hopeful drops are anomalous but the lack of RAC is what is most troubling.

Seems like he is a a straight up Lafell replacement so imagine they are done with WRs. Wouldn't be surprised to see them bring Gibson back to camp as he was looking good pre-injury.

Good AC/DC reference. Almost named my rec league hockey team white lightning back in high school (20 yrs ago when they were a bit more relevant ;) ).

Went with "High Voltage" instead, which is probably right around the last time I bothered listening to AC/DC.

I'm not quite as sure as others that he's definitely going to be the replacement attempt at LaFell, or that they're done with WRs for that matter.

If they did bring back Gibson I'd be happy, but you've got to wonder if they tried to work something out prior to releasing him.

I love the difference in cap philosophy highlighted by this signing.

The reason the Bills couldn't keep their up and coming RFA was because they're tight against the cap, after seriously overspending in Free Agency in the last few years, for an underperforming DL, a TE that amounted to Meh, and assorted big-name bits that played way below their salaries.

So, their homegrown kid, who was new to football when he first came into the league, but was flashing the potential to outplay a number of Buffalo's early round draft picks at WR, comes to the Patriots for his prime years. It's another case where by Week 10, fans from opposing teams will say, "how do they keep finding these guys?"

The Pats, on the other hand, spend their cap space on team depth and underappreciated players coming into their prime. And they get criticized during Free Agency for "being so passive". Doesn't seem passive to me... just seems like they have a different idea of what value looks like.

Excellent breakdown on the signing, as well as the different approaches that are taken.

I'd still have liked to see another mid tier pickup at worst, but if they still manage to bring in another WR and RB, I'll feel a lot better. Hopefully, there are more value signings coming.
