Gronk

Dion Lewis/James White

Julian

not a bad group of pass catchers... bring in some rookies. sign backup TE

Really Bill? You couldn't compete with that?

FFS if 5/15 is too f.ucking much when its reported everywhere that you actually want him then you won't get anyone!

Between this and Forte going for 4 million I'm now in a really bad mood. 9 million bucks for Forte and Matthews and two gigantic needs are filled. How will you get a better deal than that?

Hm. Well. I would've paid that to Matthews but... Oh well. Who knows what was actually offered...

LOL that's the same group as last year, expect you swap in Hogan for LaFell and a minus a backup TE after cutting Chandler.

Not exactly an improvement.

I'm pretty sure they are only illegal to offer sheets issued to players under the transition tag

The poison pill is not banned its just frowned upon (insert Galafanakis joke about Bin Laden/airplanes here). I great one would be to double the salary if the team doesn't win 9 games! Its just the kinda of thing that Rex would take personally and would probably match it out of spit!

I can't wait til this board goes from "I hate Hogan to" "WOW Bill didn't sign him for that amount?!??"
Matthews wouldn't have came here anyways..he said the titans offer more opportunity in his mind..aka he was never coming here
For all we know, we may have offered him the same amount of $.

Get Bolden and Hogan and I think we have a pretty good core. I'd love Kearse but, I think he's looking to cash in big.

It sure worked fine before injuries set in.

Will he really command more than what Matthews got? I mean, in all honesty, I'd rather have Kearse than Matthews to begin with, but if Belichick can't offer that, we're not getting anything but more over the hill vets in at WR.

Remains me of when someone here suggested three years ago that we poison pill Sanders contract with a "due for 9 million dollar bonus if he catches at least three passes from an alleged rapist."

CJ Anderson visiting Phins. Would fill a big need for them

I don't think we were ever reported as expressing any interest in him though. Maybe we lowballed him with 2 million or some crap. I don't understand why.

You know they lowballed him? I need some of these sources guys

But that's the issue. Injuries are a real thing, that do happen and need to be accounted for.

As we saw this past year, you can never have enough depth at WR. The lack there of, could probably be credited to the reason we lost a few games, thus losing home field and thus also losing a chance at back-t0-back Super Bowls.

So no, just because it worked for 8 games, doesn't mean you swap out LaFell for Hogan, add in a 6th round rookie and call it a day.

Dude. Didn't the guy explicitly state he went to the Titans because he thought he'd get more playing time there? It doesn't follow that someone not signing with the Patriots indicates the Patriots weren't financially competitive.

When are some of you people going to get it?? The Patriots put a value on every player they are interested in. They simply don't overpay. If the player doesn't like what they are offering ok goodbye and have fun losing but at least you have 2 million more dollars.

I think Patriots success relies on players that want to play and play their asses off for fair value which translates to Wins.

I have no issue with this teams approach to free agency and what they will pay and what they won't.

I don't think this puts Amendola's roster spot in any jeopardy; who are they going to replace him with? No one left in free agency is as good as he is, and worse players like Mohamed Sanu are getting paid substantially more money in free agency than he's due next year, and they're all getting long-term deals.

Hogan plays in the slot and outside, while Amendola plays almost exclusively in the slot. Like you said, given how injury-prone Amendola and Edelman are and how important they are to the offense, having versatile insurance for them who can also play alongside them is really important. Hogan's, at worst, no less capable than Sanu and is likely to come much cheaper.

I think having the redundancy of a Hogan on the roster makes it easier for the Pats to bring Amendola back to the table to discuss restructuring his current deal. If he doesn't restructure, I honestly don't think the Pats keep him. That's way too big of a cap hit for what he brings to the table when he IS healthy. As you said, at worse he's going to be a contingency plan in the event one or both guys sustain injury. The team had a massive setback when Edelman went down and Amendola became gimpy as they had nobody that could beat the press and get open within 1-2 seconds. Hogan provides that. That said, if they sign Hogan, don't be surprised to see reports coming out of Foxboro that the Pats and Amendola are talking about restructuring.

It almost always comes down to money. I feel that Matthews is just saying that because it looks better.
