OT: Buried knife found on OJ Simpson's old property is being tested

LA DA office has left the case open.

LAPD still classifies it as an ongoing investigation.

While double jeopardy laws seem to apply, not sure why they haven't closed them out.

Might be more symbolic than anything.
It wouldn't have an impact on the OJ case because that case has been tried and adjudicated. It wouldn't have an impact on any /other/ case because there is exactly zero provenance that this thing is what it's purported to be, that it was found where it was supposedly found or that it's even the same knife that was supposedly found. A documented chain of custody is required with regard to evidence in a criminal proceeding for a reason.

^^^^^^^ This. ^^^^^^^

just adds more "juice" to the theory that O.J. was a slashing runner...

This is a GROSS misunderstanding of the law lol

Public schooling at its finest

What an idiotic thing to say nor does he deserve that reply. That was my understanding as well (Double Jeopardy movie with Tommy Lee Jones) because why else would I know anything more about this topic? This isn't something covered in any school unless you're going to college for a field that deals in it in some shape or form.

Heck, you could be acquitted and walk out of the courthouse, confess that you did it and give all the details, and be scot-free with respect to any criminal charges (assuming you didn't say anything under oath that was contradicted by your confession).
That's actually pretty much what happened.

Heard a lot of talk about this on the radio today, including an interview with TMZ's Harvey Levin. Say what you like about TMZ, but Levin is a smart guy.

1) It is possible that the police simply missed finding the thing. Yes, they combed the area, but there are still limitations.

2) The ex-cop who held it all these years is an idiot, and almost certainly knew he shouldn't have done it.

3) The LAPD is trying to track down the construction guy who dug it up

4) The ex-cop actually refused to give the knife to the LAPD last month. According to Levin (take this for what it's worth): "he was a real jerk about it." They actually threatened him with a search warrant, so he gave in.

5) After all of the above, a report I heard later on is that initial, unconfirmed word is that this knife is not consistent with what we would expect from the actual murders.

6) If the knife is the murder weapon, which it doesn't look like it is but bear with me, it would sure be interesting if they found DNA/fingerprints of the victim(s) and OJ and someone who (potentially) disposed of the thing. Believe it or not, they technically could go after someone for Accessory to Murder (even though OJ was acquitted), but realistically that will never happen. So no need to worry, Mr. Cowlings.

I'm saying that the case has not been closed by the LAPD or the DAs office.

I have no idea what you are getting at?

And now you're what, in your 40's and in debt up to your knees? :D

On a much more serious note, the most revealing thing to me when that verdict was announced was the sheer jubilation from the black people on camera. It was the same reaction you'd see from football fans at the moment of a winning TD of a playoff game. I didn't expect that.

They weren't celebrating OJ winning they were celebrating the LA Police losing.

That the knife can't be used in any case, against OJ or anyone else.

Why does anyone care about this? Based on what Peyton Manning's apologists were saying a few weeks ago, the proper reaction is "This happened over 20 years ago. Who cares?"

(Edited to add: Yes, this is sarcasm.)

If I was falsely convicted for beating in Goodell's skull in 2015 and got out of jail in 2025 and really did go beat his skull in, I can be prosecuted for the new crime of beating his skull in in 2025. It is a distinct, separate, act.
I'm behind you 100 percent. I'll even help you find a fall guy.

I've got blue tarps, duct tape, bungee cords and a shovel.

Just sayin'....... handy things to have around the house.

I got bail money and a new identity waiting for you, too...

At least this news story has nothing to do with Donald trump

That case was lost from the beginning when the trial was moved to LA from Brentwood, the scene of the crime.

Exactly. Plus the mishandling of the blood evidence didn't help.

I did reada quote from a law professor that if the blood evidence was from Ron and Nicole but had prints from say Al Cowlings he could be tried as an accomplice.

But at this point why bother.
