Tom Brady Signs Two Year Extension Per Schefter

At the club through 2019 now.

Bye bye Jimmy?

Bittersweet. Brady will pass all of Manning's lame regular season records in a Patriots uniform but IMO Jimmy G has franchise QB caliber traits that will be hard to find in other 2nd-3rd round QBs in the upcoming years. He was a rare case as a talented FCS QB.

Just hope the team has some plan for the Brady successor.

The problem is that they're hard to find even at the bottom of round one, too.

No matter how much we want to see Brady playing at this level for, say, another 7–10 years, IMO they have to prepare with the understanding that he could start to decline at basically any time.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one......we should be investing in the future, not holding onto the past
Brady still is the Future. He is still the best in the game. And I assume this will be team friendly and won't prohibit them too much if he retires before the end of the deal.

If Brady seriously declines, they won't start him in the later years. He'll be the mentor and a perfect guy to step in, if it came to that. He's a team-first guy, and even a fierce competitor can be smart enough to know when it's time to slip into the background a bit. Or they'd trade him if they had to.

Please understand that I won't be the least bit surprised if this guy is STILL a top-5 QB in 2019.
Brady is, to me, the guy you keep until he can't, and year after year, he proves that thinking he won't makes you a fool.

Hope they saved some cap space.

For now, trade Jimmy G to the highest bidder and draft Hogan in rds 3-5.
Nothing bitter here. This is just Sweet!

Yep. He's now signed for 4 years, that's a standard length of a non short term deal. 4 years is "the future", at some point we'll move JG and draft another developmental replacement.

If BB has proven anything over the last 15+ years it is that he keeps it professional and knows when to cut ties. I'm sure he looks at Brady a little differently, but at the same time will do what has to be done when the time comes. I'm sure there is more to this extension than we know and it provides some assurances for both Brady and the Patriots organization in the long term.

It's inevitable that at age 41, Brady's skills will have declined. Nevertheless, at 41 , he'll still b better than the vast majority of other QBs in a QB driven league

We are betting against the entire history of the NFL. Brady is one of a kind, but the fact remains that there has only been two QBs to start and play at a high level age 39+: Favre and Moon.

In two seasons Manning went from 55 TD passes to the worst QB in the league. QB declines are usually rapid.

Then again, Brady could defy the odds again and play until he is 45. Who the heck knows. I just hope they find another good developmental QB in the meantime.

I can't complain about life, I've seen a few GOATs writing the history.

This is good news... bolstered by Dante being back. The old man in the Uggs needs some HELP back there! ;)

On the flip side, I don't think anyone has ever taken staying a starting QB as seriously as Brady has, and the previous generation of QBs didn't have modern sports medicine to help them.
