Deadspin Takes Down Peyton

Not surprisingly, their "big Patriots fan" writer honestly believes the team filmed walkthroughs.

Yeah that guy is terrible. He always prefaces what he says with the fact that he's a Pats fan and then he rips them so he supposedly gains legitimacy. He's either a liar or the worst fan ever.

I wouldn't even defend him as a player.

He is, as is pointed out in the article (and I've never read it in print but I've been saying it for years), the single most aesthetically unpleasant great QB to watch play. Literally every other great QB I've seen has not been such an annoying collection of spasmic movement as Peyton is. Even when he drops back and has a clean pocket, he's a damn paint shaker with the football in his hands. Licking his hands constantly, his constant waving and flapping which generally is him doing nothing. Right before he throws a duck that concusses his slot receiver or is caught by any of the assembly line of tremendous outside receivers he's thrown to through his career. Great quarterback, but the most annoying athlete of my lifetime in his entirety, right down to the way he constantly shakes his head when he is being phony humble. He doesn't shake his head in this manner unless he's being fake humble.

I'm torn between wanting him to go the f away and wanting him to go 2-8 with the Rams before Jeff Fisher benches him so he can end up 6-10 and save his job. My schadenfreude levels would be peaking as Jeff Fisher is essentially my least favorite coach of my lifetime.

As soon as I saw the title I knew what kind of article it would be.

There's clearly some racial bias involved when comparing the treatment of Newton to Manning, but I think many who don't follow closely aren't aware that Manning gets special treatment above and beyond other white guys too.

i enjoyed this one too. I wish more people would read it.

But while I understand the SB and its aftermath makes 'Cam v Peyton' a better headline, isn't necessary to look thru the prism of a Cam Newton race comparison to come to the conclusion that Peyton is a pampered, self-righteous, phony *******. You just have to be willing to look at facts. Why most of the world hasn't done that, I don't know.

In particular the collegiate harassment case is one that most people I've mentioned it to are totally unaware. But I don't personally know any true Peyton worshipper types so I can't speak to what, if any, effect that might have on one. But I'm guessing dads don't tell their kids.

I support any article that criticizes Peyton Manning, but Peyton Manning is hardly the first or the last athlete to enroll in grad school in order to play one more year of college ball.

And he didn't come in 2nd (losing to Woodson) because the media hated him. He was arguably not even the best QB in college. The argument could be made that Leaf was the better college QB (NOTE: I said Leaf was arguably the better college QB, meaning we ignore everything that happened after they were each drafted). The fawning media loved Manning and always has.

The New York Daily News just printed a scathing account of what really happened with the Tea Bagging incident and how Manning destroyed that womans CAREER. Eye opening, scary stuff must read.

KING: Peyton Manning’s squeaky-clean image was built on lies
Just read the article. My god.

Always knew the story which as a stand-alone is disgusting.

The actual book, Archie and PMs lies and utter disregard for this poor woman's life is revolting.

I wish she had the strength to hold a press conference and shred this f-ing fraud and his corrupt a-hole of a father.

The Mannings need to pay for this. In a big and painful way. Wouldn't it be grand to have all of this out and available for the HoF voters? I just wish there was a reporter and sports outlet like FESPN who had the guts to take this story and run with it.

It's been brought up before, but why is Archie Manning treated with such reverence? I never saw him play and I know QB stats from his era can't be compared to today, but his record as a starter was 35-101-3. He only had 2 seasons out of 14 where he threw more TDs than interceptions. He had 125 TDs and 173 INTs for his career. Coming out of college, he was the #2 pick in the draft. If another QB put up similar numbers, they'd be labeled a bust. Somehow, Archie Manning doesn't get that label and we hear how the team around him just wasn't that good.

I have no doubt that part of the settlement terms were that she is forbidden from discussing the incident.

Oh no question. They reached a settlement with her. Wishful thinking on my part.

The problem is that you can't trust those Mannings to keep their word.

Exactly! I've only seen highlights too, but nobody has ever been able to tell me why he was good. Even when he left the Saints, he went 0-8 with Houston and Minnesota. My guess is because he's a good ole boy goober with a cool first name. He has the worst winning percentage of anyone to make 100 starts.

This would be like if Matt Stafford had a kid and he was treated like royalty.
