So about that 1st rounder in 2016....

Such BS. All this **** about the integrity but making a teams ability to field a competitive team more difficult doesn't fall under that category.

It is...

But it must suck when we draft the GOAT at Rd 6, an all around elite Lb like Collins in the 2nd, and we get a lockdown CB that went undrafted in Butler.

The league must get so pissed!

Karma dictates that the patriots will draft 3 first ballot hall of famers without a 1st rounder.

How sweet it would be if we drafted another 6th rounder that will be the bane of Goodell's existence for the next 15 years...as if he'll be around that long.

probably the first time in a while where i don't care about the draft.
i usually read through mock drafts from various sites seeing who we should get, thanks to robert kraft we get nobody...

i also hate looking at espn/nfln when they show mock drafts. they always have to mention that we lost our pick for using underinflated footballs. such garbage....

Also true: Robert Kraft continues to make money hand over fist and couldn't care less about what Patriots fans think.

interesting........the most successful team in the NFL since he bought the team, both in the sport and financially, and he doesn't even care.......guy makes it look easy

as for the stipulation that prevents the pats from getting any better than the 28th pick........... it's proof that there are other owners involved in the process......they wanted to make sure the pats don't get a high pick

The lack of a first rounder is why I feel they should be more aggressive in free agency this offseason, and I think Belichick is going to approach this offseason pretty aggressively to shore up the weaknesses they have on offense.

it's one guy.........one FA signing and the talent has been replaced......they'd probably draft Braxton Miller and realize he doesn't fit the scheme by late august

Gotta tell ya, this might be the best reply I've ever experienced at this board...or any.

Well... maybe we can think of a guy like Dion Lewis as our "first round pick". Here's hoping.

It may be just "one guy" but first round prospects are still an important way to fill a need. I think Belichick paid attention to the fact that the final four teams were all good defensive teams and understands they need to be better offensively to handle the to defense's next season. We will see how he approaches it but I expect him to be pretty aggressive in addressing their needs this free agency.

We still have 3 picks in the first 3 rounds. Some here are acting as if following the draft is suddenly pointless. That's ridiculous.

How many times have we traded away picks? Hell, it just happened a few yrs ago with Collins and we didn't pick until 52.

This is an even better scenario than what I was considering. Say they trade Chandler Jones for #24, and then trade that for 2 second round picks.

You're telling me the NFL is going to have a problem with that? LOL.

They can't do that. They're not allowed to trade the higher pick. They could then trade #28 in that scenario however.

Here is an EXCELLENT article from grantland, on how Belichick manipulates the draft on the regular by not making big free agent acquisitions and allowing other teams to make those types of mistakes.

This is basically draft-porn for those who enjoy this type of stuff, and something that @Danger Zone can put away for "Belichick is a bad GM" debates further down the road.

Method to the Madness: How Belichick Rules the Draft

Bruce Allen at BSMW does a good job of breaking down BB's drafts.. pretty impressive, but as in this study there is no comparison to other teams to assess how well BB has done. but 15 years of 9 wins or more is a lot impressive.

Oh? Where does it say that? It only says they have to forfeit anything higher than #28. But it doesn't say when, does it?

If the Patriots have more than one selection in either of these rounds, the earlier selection shall be forfeited. The club may not trade or otherwise encumber these selections.

From post #9. The last sentence is the relevant one.

the overall impact is overstated........many pats fans love screeching to the tune of victimization, but in the grand scheme, it's not a big deal

Sorry, did it wrong. See my post above.
