The only discussion in this is whether someone pays absurd amount, no piss taking 2nd rounder thankyou. Other than that you 100% keep. Has everyone not taken note of the QBs in the league right now and there ages.

How much would it cost to replace?

Another reason to keep Jimmy for at least this year - Brady's court case isn't over and while it is unlikely he'll be suspended part of the 2016 season it is far from impossible.

Well, I think the importance of having a backup who can keep your season alive if your starter goes down is indisputable. We've seen very little of JG, but BB must believe in him if he's kept him around this long without bringing in anybody else.

So it makes no sense at all to trade him unless there's a Plan B and I have no idea who that might be...I mean I don't see Belichick going after Johnny Football anytime soon .

That implies that the Pats have a problem for which Manziel is the solution.

Here's the move, we can't trade him for a top 28 pick, BUT............we can get around that.

Let's say we have a hand shake agreement with some team. They draft the player we want and then we immediately trade Jimmy G. for him? Wouldn't you love seeing Goodell's face when that happens?

BUt then tehre is the part of 'who would trade a first round pick for Jimmy?'

I'm not sure anyone would. After all, he could be the next Ryan Mallett.

I hope Grop is a real stud of a QB ...

But I haven't seen it yet ...
He hasn't shown it in pre season yet ...
I doubt what he does in practice would impress any team ... it's not the real game ...

That said I highly doubt we get anymore for him than roughly where he was originally drafted.
So for now keep ... try to really feature him in pre season as opposed to running basic plays and if a team loses their QB before the trading deadline then sell high ... real high.

Not going to happen, but I would play both Brady and Garropolo 50/50 in the next year.
Play Garropolo in the first half
Play Brady in the second half.

If Garropolo plays like a top QB -- then we end up with the #1 seed, and we know he's the QB of the future.

If Garropolo plays like a below average starter -- we still make the playoffs, and we get to keep Brady a little fresher -- less wear and tear, and hopefully Brady is 100% for the playoff run.

Why does anyone think he's worth a 1st or 2nd rounder in a trade?

This always puzzles me how there always seems to be an insinuation that our backup qbs are worth anything, without ever playing a meaningful snap in the nfl. I must be missing something with jimmy now.

Mallett suuposedly had value and went for a 6th or 7th (3rd round pick iirc). Rohan davey... U know the rest.

Jimmy g will be here till his contract is up then a decision will be made.... Barring a long term injury to brady and jg performing like cassell in 08. Then he might fetch a 2nd.

Keep him as injury insurance and a possible heir to Brady. Draft another QB this year and then make a decision after training camp or at the end of the year.

Hadn't thought much about drafting the replacement with Garrapolo here but it's a really good idea if the prospect is there.

This season taught us a lesson about how one extra loss or win can totally change the outcome of the season. And it possibly cost us a SB, Carolina choked big time and I doubt Belichick would not have shut them down too.

That said, I dont know how Brady make it through the season, it just proves he is also the GOAT in toughness, but next season he is 39. I would keep JG unless there is an irrefusable offer.

Edit ->please note that Osweiller kept the Broncos in the race the same way we would expect JG to do.

If a Godfather offer is put on the table then sure but as we saw with Manning and as much as we'd all like to believe Brady's health and fitness regime is going to keep him playing QB for the Patriots into his 40s, Father Time catches us all.

I know you're not serious.

Good point. I think it's a tribute to how much people respect Belichick's judgment: "Hey, if Belichick didn't cut him, he must be good!"

Why does anyone think he's worth a 1st or 2nd rounder in a trade?

People are constantly overvaluing trade compensation, particularly with our own players. We've had the same ridiculous discussions about guys like Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, etc.

Any talk of a first round pick is completely absurd. The reason some are considering a second round pick is simply due to the fact that is where he was drafted, so they automatically assume that's a good starting point.

Even if someone did offer a second round pick, I don't know what good it would do us, having wasted the past 2 years on trying to develop a QB for our complex system, and now left with a huge weakness at QB2/potential future starter.

Hadn't thought much about drafting the replacement with Garrapolo here but it's a really good idea if the prospect is there.

It sounds odd at first mention--the possibility of taking up two spots on the 53 with backup QBs, but we're pretty well set as usual heading into the draft, so Belichick can certainly afford to take a risk on a pick or two at whatever position he sees fit. We've seen it many times. Actually, we see it practically every single draft in some form or another with reaches or guys that he likes for ST, etc.

I suppose the biggest question would be whether or not he'd want to take up 2 positions at backup QB.

This is the most unique idea to ensure a losing record I've ever seen.
