Assuming a $154m salary cap, they've got $29m in cap space before taking into account carry forward / incentive adjustments. Why do they want to get rid of him? Overpaid for what he provides? Maybe, but he's one of their better players. Former Pats scouting head Jon Robinson is the GM now - if anyone's going to value a guy like him, it'll be someone who worked under BB.

Basically, I understand why McCourty could have been on the block in October prior to his injury diagnosis. But given the fresh new regime now, I think it's more likely they'll want to keep him now instead of trading or cutting him,

Just my opinion. Would love to be wrong here; I think more veteran depth at CB would be very helpful considering that neither Butler nor Ryan are under contract for 2017 at this point among other reasons.
People also need to consider that the McCourty Twins are high character guys and very good football players. Given the Titans are devoid of talent, they need to be bringing it in not sending it out.

I can't speak for the the actual decision-makers, but the Titans fans seem to think he's an important player moving forward. Here we're talking about accepting him if the Titans are looking to get rid of him for cheap, and then there's a Titans fan who includes him as one of the Titans' top 7 players.

Really? None of the Titans fans here ( and I live here ) that I know think that. Have you watched him play this year? Titans top 7 eh? None to write home about except maybe walker.
I really don't understand the fascination around here about him, he's not his brother....

eric weddle will be a free agent.
bring him in, let chung play the deone buccannon role.
BB loves Weddle. Sticker price might be a little high.

Much as I like their young defensive backs I think a good veteran defensive back would be a big help, next season in case they don't play as well as we are hoping. Coleman and Johnson played OK but both would have to take a big step forward to beat McCourty out, and as much as I like Roberts as a prospect he's never played a down in the NFL and many here are treating him like a lock to play well for them. Bottom line for me is the more good CBs the better, teams like Pittsburgh are 4-5 deep at WR and the more quality you have at the position the more likely you can survive injury and handle deep receiving corps.

I don't understand the obsession with Jason. I honestly think a majority of this board just wants him more because it would be cool having brothers playing on the same defense rather than him being such a good corner. I would rather have Sean Smith anyways if they choose to replace Ryan as the #2 CB.

Why we need him? We have 3 great/good cheap and young cbs. If we are talking about D we need one ILB, another CB for depth and thats it. And if Hicks leave we need another DT. But we have a really strong D.
DMac ( Harmon) Chung ( Richards + Ebner) Hightower ( Freeny) Collins ( Draft) Justin Coleman ( Roberts) Ryan ( Draft) Butler Ninko (Sheard) Brown ( Branch) Easley ( Hicks and/or Siliga) Jones ( Flowers/Grigsson) .... Why we need Jason Mc and his $8,800,000 cap hit....

Extend both Hightower and Collins.
Sign Hicks

Yeah he might be a casualty on a team with cap problems, but I don't see it here. With them having to spend to the cap floor as well, and I don't think TN is in a spot to lure a bunch of high-quality or high-price FAs unless they're also overpaid, there's really no reason for them to move him for a small draft return when they could also stand to gain a little more in trade from a needy team in-season than now. If in fact they're interested in moving him at all.
