Take our first away and Big **** Bill still wins. Picks would be in 2017/2018. So basically two Pick #32's over the next couple of years.

[No I don't think it will happen, just wanted to be the first to make the thread we'll see 43 more times over the next few months.]

It doesn't work that way. If you don't have the picks in that draft, you can't sign the player.

IOW, there are no franchise players coming to Foxboro this year.

In any case, as good as Miller is, I'll take HT and Collins.

Here another bribed drug tester away from a very long suspension. And something tells me he's self destructive enough to do it once he gets paid.

As has been noted before if we lived in an alternative universe and Von did get here, he would be suspened for a year for a positive test week 1. So best not to want that.

It's as if people think Miller does his work in a vacuum. It was Miller - Ware - Wolfe all staying reasonably healthy this year that did the damage. The Broncos D hit 7 total sacks against Carolina. As good as Miller was, he wasn't an island.

Dont forget Malik Jackson. Id argue after Miller hes the best player on that unit.

Yeah, I remember that the consensus was that they'd be screwed due to the loss of Pot Roast, but Jackson has certainly helped to ease that transition.

Huh?!? Von Miller is not an once in a generation player and that is the only type of player I would ever consider giving that much up.

Miller had a great post season, but do people remember how he absolutely disappeared down the stretch last year and in the playoffs. In fact, he disappeared near the end of the season this year.

Also, did everyone forget the impact that Suh did for the Miami defense when he was added? Not much. He was last year's Von Miller.

IMHO, there isn't a player worth two first rounders and a top contract. But say the Pats could actually sign a franchise player, how good is this team going to be in 3-5 years with no Brady and three straight years of no first round pick?

I'd rather sign Malik Jackson assuming he can play a 4-3 DT.

How'd Pot Roast do this year by the way? I would have loved to have him in the middle of the defense.

I don't remember people saying they were screwed because of Pot Roast. I think people thought it would hurt their run defense, but most people thought they would still have a very good defense. I don't think many people thought it would be anywhere as good as this one.

But Pot Roast was replaced by Sylvester Williams, not Malik Jackson.

This Denver defense really was built perfectly for Miller to succeed. Consider that:

A) The DL was dominant in the middle, which not only shut down a QB's ability to step up in the pocket, but also completely shut down most running games, giving the edge rushers more 3rd and longs to pin their ears back.

B) The linebackers had speed and the DB's were good tacklers, which meant that Miller didn't need to worry as much about edge containment on the run. Outside runs against this defense were snuffed out pretty quickly.

Von basically had a dream scenario for him where he was allowed to focus on his biggest strength 90% of the time. It would be like having a defense that allowed for Jamie Collins to time A gap blitzes on 90% of the snaps. The man would have 20+ sacks.

Not too mention having a shutdown corner in Talib that allowed them to play on an island with no safety help. TJ Ward is a basically a LB

Agreed. I hate Denver, and I don't think their strategy is built for long term success (certainly not at this level), but I have to give them props. This year they built an incredibly well designed defense. Of course, it helped that it was basically healthy the entire season, as they looked a lot more vulnerable when they had even one guy like Ware or Wolfe out. But still, credit where credit is due.

No frekin way, only player in football I would strongly consider doing that for is Watt.

Couldn't agree more. Belichick almost always hits with his first round choices (which is probably the reason that the NYJFL keeps coming up with excuses to take them away from us), it would kill our team to miss out on 3 future starters

I'm also assuming good coverage in the secondary gave them an extra moment too. The whole defense has to be there.
