Denver Cap situation?

the Broncos have like eight starters who are going to be free agents next month. So on paper they look to be in great cap situation.

In reality, they are likely going to lose several impact starters. They seem to already be resigned to losing Malik Jackson.

R.e. Playing at Denver...I never bought into it, I thought with Brady etc the Pats had a better than 50/50 shot out there....
But we saw so many teams wilt in the 4th Q this season I think maybe THEY'RE taking the air out and making it thinner than usual in the atmosphere in Denver...plus add all the weird stuff that happens to the Pats in Denver and its a bad scenario...
People can crap on ossweiler but he made some huge throws late in that game this season...
For the clown who always calls me a troll (the guy w the Kay Adams avatar)...so people r trolls if they don't think the Pats can waltz into Denver and win? On what would u base the Pats ability to win in Denver? Have u not watched the Patriots for the last 30 years?

Nothing to see here. Broncos never have and never will have cap issues. Salary caps are only for the little (non Bronco) guys

Does the "42 players signed" mean they'll eat up salary cap $$$ for each player signed up to 53 ? Or does the current cap # for them assume minimum salaries to get to 53 ? If it's the former they'd use almost $10M just signing 11 more minimum salary guys.

Probably.
$450,000 times 9 = $4,050,000

Thanks, so that's $4M absolute minimum. And $4M will go with Manning's NLTBE money from this year.

Yeah, the $2M for getting to the SB and $2M for winning it would be NLTBE so when you hear of their cap #, you can subtract $4M. Spotrac tweeted something about their cap number and when I asked they said the $4M is not factored in, along with no other similar adjustments.

Some sites are simply bumping up Manning's 2016 cap hit (PFT had an article today).

I don't know if that's correct or not or if they're both one in the same, but the bottom line is that that they'll save about 20m just from parting ways with Manning.

I can't see anyway they'd want to keep Manning at a reduced salary while also trying to sign Osweiler to a new pact.

$16m and all that is gonna do is free up money to tag Miller which will be $14m.

16.5m but that's going to be eaten up by Miller and whatever QB they decide to sign, remember Osweiler is a FA.

Manning has a 21.5m dollar cap hit and a 2.5m dead cap, meaning they'd save almost 20m dollars, and that's if PFT's report is false (they claim that his cap hit is 25.5m, and that they'd save 23m).

Either way, they'll have about 30m dollars to sign some of their free agents. As usual, there will be roster turnover like any year.

They save $19M. There's $2.5 in signing bonus remaining but that hits anyway. Sure they save $19M but they also lose $4M because of the NLTBE bonuses that he made which most sites don't account for.

Of course, assuming Manning is gone they don't have a QB either. Need to sign Osweiller which will each up a solid chunk.

That's why PFT's article stating that they somehow rolled that over into 2016 seemed a bit odd. If they're right, and I don't think they are, Manning's cap hit climbs to 25.5m.

Either way, I'm a lot less likely to concern myself with anyone else's cap space in an attempt to feel better, but I'd be shocked if they didn't take a step backwards next year, even if that means 10-6 and a wildcard spot.

Malik Jackson is going to Jacksonville because it just makes too much damn sense.

I think that they could sacrifice Demaryius Thomas prior to the draft for a pick or trade for a journeyman QB... He has been woeful the past 2 years catching 54 for 834yds but do they get anyone to eat the 15m he is on when it costs Denver 25m dead and saving only 10m.

Sanders I would give a new deal too and make him #1. As a number two I would promote Bennie Fowler who I think is going to be good. I liked Cody Latimer when he was drafted but he simply hasn't played. Is he a bad egg.

Denver will not be bringing back Vernon Davis so they also have a huge hole at TE. Virgil Green and Owen Daniels have been big let downs also and have 6m invested in both and signed through 2017.

Will be interesting how they handle C J Anderson though, being Restricted especially as Ronnie Hillman can test the market.

So ontop of the problems of paying the defensive players and a QB they too have to make a splash on RBs and a TE.

And Trevethan, my guess is he reunites with John Fox in Chicago.

1) If you mean that he's racked up 3,000 yards in catches over the past 2 years instead of the 834 that you posted--then yes, I agree.

2015--1304
2014--1619

2) There's also the fact that he's caught 216 balls over the last 2 years, not "54." You gave him credit for 25 percent of his production in both catches and yardage :)

I'd like to see the pats to snag a few players from them, like those times when they took Talib and Welker.

CJ Anderson is a RFA. He looks like he'd be a great compliment to Lewis. Can we tie Elway's hands a little by offering CJ more than they would like? Elway has been very good as their GM.

WOuld love to see Manning back because it can only hurt them (Their O was beyond inept)..but he is done there so there goes that idea.
