One more thing for Roger to lie and dissemble about. (And maybe will help my desired "burn it all down" scenario actually happen.)

Now, new research published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal shows that even mild concussions sustained in ordinary community settings might be more detrimental than anyone anticipated; the long-term risk of suicide increases threefold in adults if they have experienced even one concussion.

A Single Concussion May Triple the Long-Term Risk of Suicide

For those who follow WWE, Daniel Bryan yesterday had to retire at just 34 because testing showed his brain was - his words - "not ok" from so many concussions.

I wonder how many NFL players today would "fail" the same test... probably explains why the NFL wouldn't implement it.

If anybody is watching the OJ Simpson mini-series on FX this might be interesting.

Among those who believe Simpson suffered from CTE is Dr. Bennet Omalu, the world-renowned forensic pathologist who first identified the disease in football players.

“I would bet my medical license that he has CTE,” Omalu, who inspired the movie Concussion,

'Concussion' doctor thinks O.J. Simpson might have CTE

I think the NFL is dreading the day someone develops a CTE detection procedure. That day is coming and I think the results will be frightening.

True, if history is any guide, the league will most likely try to discredit any testing techniques as unreliable if not un-American.

If and when their efforts fail they will then try to control the testing procedure, and the data collected from it so no one outside the league will know how bad the problem is.

But at the end of the day Im not sure any of this really matters though. When the general public realizes what these guys are doing to themselves by playing this game they may scream and shout about how immoral it is but they'll still keep watching, the owners will keep selling ever more expensive tickets and signing even richer tv deals. Sadly, nothing material will change in my opinion.

Great....
I'm pretty sure I had at least one concussion playing high school football. And I never came out of the game for a minute....
I have had a concussion in every sport I played. I'm screwed.

On a tackle in high school, "the lights went out" for a couple of seconds. Might not be called a concussion, but would would that be called?

I enjoyed watching the movie Concussion, because it shows Goodell and his lieutenants as they really are. For those that sided with the NFL on DeflateGate, I hope this will wake up the public that Goodell has been a very bad commissioner.

Back to CTE, I hope this leads to more independent research.

Yeah, I know I've had a few if instant migraine level headache is a symptom. And of course the solution at the time was to sit for a couple minutes and get back at it.

Hockey, football, fistfight (I clearly won and graciously allowed him to rise to his feet, when I turned because I thought it was over he sucker-punched and ran to a bus. Sorry can't permit people thinking I lost). Happy my brain still works well enough to do what I need it to. But I'm still young... Scary stuff.

They did an experimental diagnosis on Tony Dorsett about three years ago.

Anyone thinks he does not have CTE?

"triple the risk" sounds scary, but it's important to look at the underlying numbers:

It turned out that more than 660 suicides occurred among these patients, equivalent to 31 deaths per 100,000 patients annually—three times the population norm.

that means the annual risk of suicide for adults diagnosed with a mild concussion increased from 0.01% to 0.03%. the risk is tripled, but it's still a pretty small number.

i wouldn't worry too much.

Concussions will kill this sport within 20 years.

I don't think it will kill it but it will definitely change it and many other contact sports. It may change other professions as well. Military, construction...etc....

This may have dawned on everyone else, but it's just coming to me now.

Forgive me as I have not been following the concussion case much at all. But with my previous post, and those of others, indicating suffering likely past concussions in sport, why are the plaintiffs in the action against the NFL limited to former players? Would we all not have benefited from that suppressed information, but for the actions of the league and Goodell? Would we all not have known that much sooner that you don't throw a kid back into the game to get his now woozy head knocked off again after a concussion?

My hatred for Goodell just did the impossible and increased. F that entire organization.

Sigh....You do have a point. From memory I can tell you when my concussions took place by age

5th Grade Pop Warner: I was on defense and I got kicked in the head
6th Grade Hockey: slipped and head hit the goal post
8th Grade Basketball: dove for a ball and my head hit the other kids head
11th Grade Baseaball & sand lot football; 90mph fastball to the head. (kid got drafted by the White Sox) and got leveled on a tackle and hit my head on a rock.
College: Fight/baseball bat (he got his later)
Car accident a few years ago.

With that said I'm 44 and feel great. No violence issues or moody behavior and believe me- with all the discussion about CTE I have asked.

Thats me personally. Would my folks/me do things differently knowing what we know now?

Would I sue? No. I don't think I have a case really.

Sports was a huge part of my social life and my identity as a person back then. Not sure what else I would do?
