Well, OTG, I never would have suspected this thread to pop up. I appreciate it.

An observation: the imprecision of language around this gets us in trouble.

My preference is to use "racism" to apply to institutional and cultural practices that work against people because of their race, and "bigotry" to apply to individuals who are ignorant and scared. It helps with the scale of the offense. True racists do a lot of harm. Most bigots are just tilting at windmills and leave people shaking their heads.

I don't think Romanowski is in a position to be racist; he just doesn't have access to that kind of power. But is he an unapologetic bigot? I've believed so ever since the rational he provided for taking steroids was that he needed to "do something to keep up with the black guys" or something like that. And that's part of the context OTG speaks of; Romanowski has a history which makes the use of "boy" more than just a one-time event for him.

You brought it up, Bub. Maybe you should take some Responsibility for your own Words, eh?
Something is getting lost in translation here as I see no reason for your getting chippy, "Bub." But just to reiterate perhaps more clearly to erase any doubt: (1) Romanowski has confirmed and reconfirmed himself as a jerk through the years, so his stirring minor ****storms hardly is news; (2) he possibly just made a poor choice of words and did not intend "boy" with the racial connotation in which it was received by some -- referring instead to Newton not behaving as a man should (boy-like); (3) he apologized unequivocally.

So, in summary: we're left with a well-known public ass who may or may not have intended something he said/wrote as racially derogatory and said he was sorry. I suggested this is not worth getting worked up about -- by you, moi, or anyone else. That is my opinion. And yes, I "take responsibility" for the words comprising my opinion.

Clear enough, "Bub"? Oh, and: .

Romonowski and his history discredits him from any "Oops" type moment. We all know what he meant.

Was Cam a sore loser, who couldn't walk the walk, after talking the talk? Yes

Does that give Romo the right to use a racially charged word, that was yelled at blacks as they were whipped or hung? No.

when Tim Brown called the Patriots "The NFL's bad boys" was that racist?

or yahoo, when they listed the top 20 "bad boys" of the NFL, based upon fines

NFL's bad boys - 20 highest fined players of 2014

Romonowski may be a raving racist (I am not aware of history in this area), but one use of that word is too little, by itself, for me to decide

Interesting.

This is not the first time that I've seen an intelligent Person draw a Distinction between Racism and Bigotry based upon an individual's Power to persecute others based on their Race.

Personally, I do not believe that the Scale of one's Power marks any such Distinction.

my bad OTG... I forgot about his history, spitting, N-word, etc.

your instincts are probably right

Thank you kindly, Brother Palm. That was incredibly gracious of you.

I'll simply delete my previous response.

Something is getting lost in translation here as I see no reason for your getting chippy, "Bub."

Let me spell it out for you, then: when you respond that "it's not worth getting worked up over"...you're explicitly implying that someone was ~ oh I don't know ~ "getting worked up over" something!!

The Weak and The Stupid, unable to defend their Positions based on Merit, often attack their perceived Adversaries with pathetic, slimy statements that suggest that their alleged Adversaries are "getting worked up over" something, because The Weak and The Stupid are generally very short on Facts.

I trust that you are better than that.

Nobody's talking about Policy, Genius: We're only discussing what Romanowski meant.

I've trashed 1000 Racial Arsonists who've spun Controversy out'f Innocence.

My Credit, unlike yours, is good. I judge men's Actions on their Merit.

I find both your unjust Attack on me ~ and you ~ disgusting.

Into the Darkness you go. Your Response will ring silent.

How do you know what Romanowski meant? BTW, making judgments kinda is a policy, especially when you attach criteria to the methodology of the judgment.

Anyway, I'd love to know how Romanowski "projects a KKK vibe".

He should have just called him a child then. If you can't see what racial connotation the word "boy" has, then so be it.

It wouldn't matter, people would still attack him and claim he's a racist. Did you see how Rob Lowe was attacked as a racist after he criticized Cam?

Actually Romonowski DOES have that right, it's fully protected by the 1st Amendment.

Anyway, did he whip or hang any of those blacks? Was Cam whipped or hung?

If not, why are you suggesting people modify their behavior because of events that neither one had anything to do with?

Oh look another thread on racism .....

I'll pass I'm sure ESPN will more than take a turn assaulting someone to get a boost in ratings.

Anyone that thinks criticizing Cam Newton makes you a racist is an idiot in every sense of the word. But Bill Romanowski, who is known for idiotic and offensive behavior, calling Newton "boy" wasn't just a "whoops" moment. He could have called him a ***** for all I care. But any human over the age of 15 should probably understand the historical connotation "boy" has. Like, are schools teaching history still? He knew damn well what he was doing.

The Weak and The Stupid, unable to defend their Positions based on Merit, are often given to attacking their perceived Adversaries with pathetic and slimy statements that suggest that their alleged Adversaries are "getting worked up over" something, because that's all that The Weak and The Stupid have.

I trust that you are better than that.
"Getting worked up over" can mean different things by degree, such as feeling compelled to initiate a thread; in this case, regarding an individual known to be intentionally provocative for all the wrong reasons and isn't worth the bandwidth. Apparently, we differ over Romanowski's importance/influence.

An aside regarding your style of prose: I see you improperly capitalize select words arbitrarily. I assume it's intentional as a function of emphasis but doesn't really work well, is distracting and makes you seem kind of odd. But you probably enjoy that, eh "Bub"? ;)

***** mode works for me.

But then the *****es would complain.

I prefer Morgan Freeman's response when questioned about racism. He said "You want to stop racism? Stop talking about it." I concur.

Seems to me that the real folks who keep this whole issue of Newton and Racism (Panthers, black QB, yadda yadda yadda) going are the mediots and reportards who need face time and job justification. Now that SB 50 is in the books, they need fodder for the masses, and spinning up a juicy story about that roidbot Romanowski and his "racist" attitude will fill the bill just ducky. OTG, I'm not including your thread in this, as it's a proper response. A discussion amongst fans on a specific subject. But Holy Jeebus Juice! What a great story o talk about rather than the Manning/PED one, hmm? It'll do nicely to deflect attention away from Goodell's designated football saint until time for the next DeflateGate courtroom edition. Sigh.
