Cam Newton walks out of Super Bowl post game press conference

Then you must never read this site.
I don't know if I've never read the site, that's a bit far, I probably haven't been here as long as you have (in fact I know this haha)

But honestly the man moves away from questioning a lot which is more often followed with praise here. I mean "We're onto..." became a trademark!

Can't see what you quoted, so if I said never, maybe that was the emotion of the post getting the best of me, but it's hardly ridiculed to the level this presser was, I hope you see where I'm coming from with that.

EDIT -I did haha, so please refer to this post for further clarification. Obviously the statement "No one ever" is often inherently erroneous.

This thread is rich given that our HC basically gives the same interview every time, especially after a loss. Also, I would rather have someone who is heartbroken, pissed off and sulky after a loss than one who shows up with nothing wrong.

people say bb is some emotionless robot, and tbf, there was a little game on nfln, or somewhere, with vereen and....blount?....who had to try and guess which bb presser clips followed wins + losses --- and it was tough, but belichick is salty as **** after a loss.

Last night I was having trouble putting my finger on it when there were some early comparisons made to BBs pressers post-loss, but the consistency really is the differentiating factor. Or Marshawn Lynch, who always gives sullen, one-word answers. Newton came in as a guy who was basking in all the glory of how well he'd been playing, gloating his way to 17-1 while dabbing on opponents who were ill equipped to stop him. And when he got stopped he turned a full 180. Yeah, some of the questions were stupid, but that's not going to change going forward. Now that he's been to the Super Bowl the pressure on him to return each season will always be there. He's no longer the kid growing up and learning to make his way to the big game. I'm not going to think about this press conference going forward at all and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but ultimately I don't think his tone or lack of wordiness would have been criticized nearly as heavily (if at all) if he'd just sat through a couple more minutes of questions instead of walking out.

By contrast BB absolutely IS rude at times, and generally only engages on questions he considers interesting football or historical questions that he surmises won't give away any tactical advantage, but he's also not out there at all other times calling all sorts of attention to himself for how great he is. In fact, he's quite the opposite. Over his time in NE that has gained its own anti-establishment charm, prime example being the Belichick Hoodie being one of the more popular sales items, but 16 years in it'd be faulty to call that a marketing strategy that BB is embarking on to "become an icon."

I never see one person criticize Belichick when he (annoyingly) continues to deflect media questions. I never see one person get mad at Brady when he freaks out on the field (celebrates) after a clutch TD pass to Gronk.

you wearing those cataract shades?

I can see the weight of such an argument, the consistency does provide a bit of context which can out Cam under the hot light for a second.

But if we're talking in terms of consistency, you also have to include the fact that there is nothing consistent here. It's the Superbowl. Emotions are incredibly off the charts during this game. To see Cam negatively react, to be roughed up and hardly answer questions, after the loss, I think makes sense. Sure, he's consistently a bit of a showboat, someone who will be loud with their victories, but this was the biggest game of his life. A lot different than winning or losing a regular season game. That's my approach, though.

He needs to be a man. Did Brady walk out of his presser after SB42? Heck even Scott Norwood faced the media after his missed kick. Cam is not a 22 year old any more.

I've see this Norwood thing quoted by a few people and I don't buy it.

People react to things in different ways. Who is to say what's right or wrong?

Personally, I like athletes to be extremely disappointed, pissed off, to the point of grief. Some like their athletes to treat it as no big deal. What works for one doesn't work for others.

By all accounts there were Bronco reps in the area crowing about the win, I'm guessing hearing them was a little too much.

Oh, and for Patriots fans to talk about people needing to give the media some big explanation or whatever else - c'mon man. Our HC has treated most of them with the contempt they deserve for as long as he's been here. And his approach is universally loved round here.

He's 26, suffered the biggest disappointment of his life and in front of millions of people. Until you've been there, I wouldn't preach.

He and I are not the same. He is an athlete paid millions of dollars. And he was showboating throughout the season. Be a man and own up to it. The nfl isn't for the weak.

The size of his pay-cheque is irrelevant.

He was the best player in the league this year and was the biggest reason his team was in the Superbowl. Weak? Come on dude. And the sport is full of egotists who like to do stupid stuff. So he pulls a little move, or takes a selfie - wow, lock him up and throw away the key.

Would you rather him be a drug user or wife-beater? We've seen many of those 'be a man' and stand up in front of the cameras.

Many enjoyed seeing him and his team, who were brilliant to watch for all but 1 game, play their butts off and enjoy those wins, and I count myself amongst those.

They'll be back next year, dabbing and pulling the Superman pose and whatever else. You should probably get used to it.

Belichck's " we're on to Cincinnati" was as deliberate and calculated as it gets, and it was done to draw all the negative attention towards himself and away from a team that was coming off a really bad loss and was struggling at the time. He knew he would be mocked mercilessly for out and would draw all sorts of attention by being completely dismissive of the media and he was more than willing to take the heat and allows the team to refocus and it worked unbelievably well. Im not suggesting he can't be an @sshole at times because he clearly can but imo that was an instance where he did it to distract the media.

PLENTY of other QBs have lost and then go through the press conferences, they take their lumps like men, not a petulant child. Also, why ask about him being a drug-user of wife beater, do we really need to scrape the bottom of the barrel in order to justify Cam's behavior?

Yes, it’s entirely possible for a low-life to carry himself well on a certain occasion, it’s also possible for a good person to be an idiot on a certain occasion, why should we simply abandon any kind of standard in this situation but simultaneously maintain them in others?

Yes, Cam WILL be dabbin and doing the Superman bit, but there’s a problem with all that: the person emotionally crumbles when things don’t go their way. If someone’s that dependent on looking cool they can’t handle it when they get spanked.

i have no problem with his dabbing but he can't go and hide in a corner when he loses. he is the leader of his team. what's his teammates going to think when they see their leader act like a coward in the face of adversity?

My friend was saying he thinks Cam was going for the fumble, but he kind of got caught in a weird half step so couldn't make a clean dive for it, so had to step back to get a clean attack. Looking at it again, I can see that. He did end up jumping in, after all. Partly it was the announcers that set up that narrative. Check it out:

It really isn't a big deal to me it's a football that bounces very strange and has a tendency to squirt around, looks like he stepped away from it when Ware tried to grab it then tried to go after it when it slipped away. He could've said anything today along the lines of "I just hesitated" or "my Bad" or "i was going for it but just paused" and I wouldn't have cared, instead he gave some lame excuse about how he might have injured himself. What a joke...

He also backed his lame attitude at the presser, saying the old line "show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser" 2 days after the loss and he doesn't get it.
