Cam Newton walks out of Super Bowl post game press conference

The Ghost stood at his locker, took full blame for his missed XP. You stand up like a man, do the press conference and then get busy working on next year.

You could see in Newton's eyes as the game was unfolding, that all the dabbing and Superman talk was starting to pile up on his ego. I'm sure after that first strip sack for a TD, the pressure started and then after the last fumble when his failure was complete, he began thinking about all the crap he has said and done with his ridiculous celebrations and "everyone is afraid of my skills as a black man" crap that he was going to have to face his critics.

Really? Where was the negative reaction to RG3 and Russell Wilson?

RG3 gets a LOT of hate, man. A lot. I don't know about Wilson, but RG gets it, definitely.

he's just a classic frontrunning ******* -- lots of people like that

when they're winning they're up in everybody's face about it, daring them to keep them out of the endzone
when somebody takes them up on that challenge they disappear to a dark room to cry to adele

classic bully attitude

he needs to man up, he looked lost and acted like a child...when you display yourself the way he did this season and then act like a child you deserve what you get. Kinda looked like McNabb yesterday during the game didn't he...I was waiting for him to throw up? LOL

At the end of the day, you can't teach maturity or class!

RG3 was VERY well liked when he first got into the league, they grew to dislike him because he's essentially a diva. The dislike is about personality, not color, same with Cam.

I hope hes remembered for this game the rest of his career. One of the most cowardly displays ive seen by a qb.

Until he wins one, he will be. He outright quit on his team last night then acted like a spoiled rotten little baby postgame. He should be ashamed of himself.

My friend was saying he thinks Cam was going for the fumble, but he kind of got caught in a weird half step so couldn't make a clean dive for it, so had to step back to get a clean attack. Looking at it again, I can see that. He did end up jumping in, after all. Partly it was the announcers that set up that narrative. Check it out:

Just a sign of the times that manners just don't matter anymore.

Teams will sign anyone they think will help them win, but it doesn't matter if they are violent off the field, frequently in trouble with the law, crude, obnoxious. This came up on many HoF discussions. Yes, a few have always been that way, but it seems to be almost acceptable. :(

The pocket tended to collapse quickly upon him so I can understand why he was rattled throughout the game. Seemed like he was constantly trying to escape pressure. But at the same time he took too long to get rid of the ball. Probably just good coverage but still he looked uncertain back there.

Newton was hurt by a lack of targets but he is also really inconsistent in terms of accuracy, especially when he's under pressure. He had a poor game last night and hadn't learned how to handle that kind of adversity. It will be interesting to see if he grows up from this because that is about as humbling an experience as they get imo.

This thread is rich given that our HC basically gives the same interview every time, especially after a loss. Also, I would rather have someone who is heartbroken, pissed off and sulky after a loss than one who shows up with nothing wrong.

I actually have a little bit of an issue with BB's behavior with the press after losses as well. Hes pretty rude IMO.

However, he can get away with it because...

What Newton doesn't realize is that A) he hasn't won anything so he doesn't have the luxury of being an ass and B) He is in the business of being marketable. Behaving like a bratty poor-sport won't help him in that endeavor.

I think it is stupid to interview the losing coach right after the game and I see no reason to hear from anyone on the losing team. It just is freakin' lame. How many times do we have to see grown men in a vulnerable moment, cry (Hines Ward, Josh Norman, etc...) and call this good TV? Not something I need to see, kinda like the Pro Bowl don't need to see it anymore.

I just realized we just watched a Super Bowl where both QBs played like total garbage. Way to go, NFL!

I'm sorry if you can't see the difference between someone who's behavior is consistent and someone who's behavior is inconsistent with his general approach.

He guys, longtime lurker here, love the coverage and perspective that this site provides

That being said...

The criticism radiating off the board at Cam is just.. Unwarranted at best. This is a young kid taking in every moment he can and enjoying it as much as possible. My word, there are posters on here jumping down a kids throat for being frustrated after he lost what is the literal most defining and largest competition in his career choice? And you're mad because he didn't say he lost with a smile on his face?

I never see one person criticize Belichick when he (annoyingly) continues to deflect media questions. I never see one person get mad at Brady when he freaks out on the field (celebrates) after a clutch TD pass to Gronk.

Especially in this case, Cam is deflecting media questions, designed to take advantage of this specific conext (A jarring and emotional loss) and generate answers that will get clicks. As a person who is working in media, it's all very apparent haha. And we're getting mad? Really? He's a bully?

Some of the silliest damn accusations I've heard, especially from what is possibly the most informed and well rounded fanbase, in many regards such as culture, the X's and O's of football, and how to look through the ******** of media.

I have no clue where this irrational and misguided jealousy and hate is derived from, but it's reminiscent of the blind anger Brady is often the recipient. I don't know if it's because he's young, I don't know if it's because he's black, but the man does everything that top athletes do. He celebrates, he embraces the moment, and I'll be goddamned if the man doesn't deserve it.

Quit crucifying him for literally nothing. It's more of a crime that you lett yourself get this worked up than him being himself, at literally NO COST to others.

I love the board, I love you guys, I absolutely am grateful for this medium, so I felt like I should voice my opinion because I deeply care about this resource.

Thank you and continue :)
