Pats Dante Scarnecchia returns as OL Coach

Temporary band-aid. Don't get me wrong, great band-aid, but the guy wants to retire I don't know how it'd work, but him as part-time Senior o-line coach and an assistant Jr. O-line coach - maybe a minor step up from quality control. You know, get's Dante's coffee and gets groomed as the successor.

The man is 67 yo now. He may not want to come back.:(

I like it.. thought the Dante retirement and "Goog" hire went against the typical Patriots "meritocracy".. if he does come back he will work with the next line coach preparing that coach before Dante goes back to playing with his grandkids..

Would be terrific. You don't know how you will respond to retirement until you try it. Some folks embrace the new lifestyle and some miss the energy of their old job.
He's only 67.
Hope he comes back.

How about we hire Dantes son back with the idea Dante turns the gig over to his son
Meanwhile BB mentors his son.
5 years later Dante, Bill retire.
New head coach of the Patriots young Belichick with the Offense ran by young Scar the NFL would erupt.

Excellent news. I like all of the moves the Pats have made so far.

Next stop: free agency.

The next OL coach has to come from the inside. Anything else would be awful for development and continuity. Here "inside" includes Scar, of course.

I can't imagine McDaniels or BB doubling up as OL coach; that works at QB but is not, I think, practical for other position groups. So I don't really see a lot of choices beyond Scar and Daboll.

As for how long Scar would have to stay -- long enough to get an apprentice ready. What's Steve Belichick's job next season?

Scar is going to get PAID. Bill knows that his coaching talent can turn average pieces into a very good unit.

This was some good news to read this morning!

I am delighted we kicked Googe to the curb, & welcome Scar back.

I am sure they did not twist his arm.
I bet the put a number in front of him that will give his children's children financial security.

I never liked Googe although I didn't know much about him.
All I really know about him is he had a foolish idea of rotating all his OL in & out early last season which didn't work.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out, you play the best healthy
Five & let them get comfortable playing as a unit.

Welcome back Scar !

Sounds like Scar may have initiated it :

In a shocking development, Dante Scarnecchia has asked the Patriots about coming out of retirement to coach the O-line again, per source.

I love to imagine that he sat there watching the AFFCG and literally said out loud "my team needs me"

Whenever you get the chance, you hire the best guy for the job.

He may be 67, but he looks and acts like he's 47.

As a total Dante homer, I might possibly kinda be on board. o_O
