I don't want to get into a long, drawn out debate that would likely belong in the political forum, and I believe that you certainly have a valid question.

My humble opinion would be that it's easier and more natural for a minority group to want to root for a player (in this case, black) on the national stage, when it's pretty much been dominated by white stars, particularly franchise type QBs.

It's a dumb double standard: but if a white person said they were rooting for an athlete because they were white, they'd be labeled (or at least suspected) as a racist or white supremacist.

There's a bit of a gray area to this scenario, because it's also somewhat natural and expected for people of their same color/ethnic background to root for others on the big stage--but openly rooting against others just because they're a certain color when you have no other rooting interest is definitely displaying some traits of racism, at least in my opinion.

I hope the Pats draft McCaffrey because hes a hell of a player, and quite honestly the perfect Pats RB (besides his size)

But do i root more for McCaffrey because he's white? Honestly yea i do. Does that make me a racist? Nope. And for that I have no issue with blacks rooting for Cam.

In football, white skill position players (RB, WR, DB) are more discriminated against than black QB's.

I can name atleast 5 black qbs drafted in the first rd last 10 years. Name me the last white skill position player drafted in the first?

Why the hell would you mention the klan? Do you have any capacity for intellectual or rational thought?

We were discussing the fact that people can root for anyone in sports due to their race and it's fine. More specifically, we were talking about how people root for an African American due to his/her race or a Caucasian due to his/her race.

Basically, if one is ok, the other is ok...capiche?

Respect yourself and each other...everything else will look after itself...

And it would be as wrong to assume a Caucasian rooting for a white player is racist as it would be to assume any other prejudice based on race.

I used to treat African Americans I just met nicer than I would Caucasians....then I realized how prejudice I was behaving. I no longer do that...
