Hugh Millen
Ah. I was referring to the years 1993-2015 which is 23 years- not 22. My bad on the math but the great Hugh Millen did not start during that period.

Yep- Lisa Coles is Lisa Guerrero.....She married fmr MLB pitcher Scott Erickson

I remember during the Deflategate crap they interviewed Millen and hes some kind of sporting goods/football manufacturer.
Gave me one of my favorite memories as a Patriots fan. First game live in 1991 at Sullivan Stadium, I saw Hugh throw a 20-yard TD pass to Greg McMurtry with 6 seconds left to beat Warren Moon and the Houston Oilers.

I was at that game (serious).

You can have $50 in your pocket and get a ticket, a case of Busch Light and a canister of Pringles.

Only thing good about that era of Patriots history.

Cool. Maybe you saw me. I was the drunk guy.

I was going to say the same thing. :D

I was 20. I still had to use a fake ID. LOL
I was a fresh 21 and acting like it. It's crazy to think how different the atmosphere was then compared to now. Bunch of yahoo's.

Not really an apt comparison. Namath had about 7-8 healthy years. Not normal healthy, but two bad knees before modern surgery adequately healthy.

If you watched football back then, you knew who the great QBs were. Gayle Sayers didn't deserve the hall of fame, but he was great. there are guys who pile up statistics in a mediocre career who were never great.

I watched plenty of football then. My point is that Namath was overrated. The numbers speak for themselves.

I lived through THIS.......1970 season

1-9-0 w/l

98 completions 219 attempts

44.7 passer rating

Joe freakin' Kapp

That's my 1st season following the Pats - Joe Kapp. He spent that season running for his life or turtling while bring sacked. Plunkett soon followed and was traded to San Francisco when Grogan came to Foxborough. Grogan was tough as discount steak. Eason was a total wuss. He argued with Grogan that he didn't want to take the big hits so that he could still walk & play tennis when he retired. John Hannah famously stated that Eason should wear a skirt.

Loved that Team!! :D Their Talent level was pathetic, and they had no Business doing anything but going 0-16, yet they somehow manage to win 6 Games and were close in another 5!!

I'll always love Coach MacPherson for that pathetic yet valiant Season!!

I have one particularly fond memory of Tony Eason as a starting QB. In 1984 he led a comeback against Seattle. Seattle led at one point 23-0 only to be vanquished 38-23. :)

Eason was a decent QB. And he certainly played well enough to do his part in the 85 SB run (as a WC, all 3 on three on the road). He did have one knock and that is his NFL draft class produced a bunch of successful NFL QBs. Eason was in the shadow of others, even drafted later, that out performed him.

In today's NFL Eason would have a much better shot at being a notable QB. QBs are given FAR more protection than the days of Grogan/Eason (and the receivers they threw too could be almost murdered by safeties/LBs). Younger people who did not see the previous NFL era would probably be shocked to see the walloping the QB and his receivers legally would get. IMHO Eason had the extremely understandable affliction of not wanting to be severely hurt. When the wrecking crew was rushing at him he would sometimes be affected by it. And for those who weren't watching the NFL in 85, the very definition of the post SB era wrecking crew was the 85 Bears defense. Leading up to the SB the bears had made mincemeat of good teams (Parcells Giants and I think the Montana 49ers). Think about this, not counting a last minute garbage time score in the SB, over 12 quarters of playoff football the Bears gaveup one single field goal. That's it! One single field goal in 12 quarters of playoff -- and btw that FG was because they turn the ball over inside their own 20). Wow. With due respect to one of the Ravens' defenses, the Bears D was friggin frightening. Think our running was deficient against Denver? I believe we had 1 yard of rushing against the Bears in the SB (it might have even been negative 1, can't remember exactly. Also if I recall one of our starting RBs was another guy afflicted with fear of injury from the Bears). These guys were so good I think Ryan got down to one defensive play call: 6 guys go at and assault the QB and everyone else just find someone to cover. And if it was a handoff/run just assault the RB on the way to assaulting the QB (an exaggeration of course).
As the SB game got toward the end of the first quarter, like every other team the Patriots OL could not contain the Bears rush/domination of the trench. Eason was shaken by the assault. Completely understandable, I'd bet everyone posting here would have been too. The lone exception to that understandable human need for staying healthy is NFL QB (or maybe a boxer) (Grogan was fearless though. He stood in and took the punishment even as there was quickly no hope for the Patriots to win).

I'll say this though. Eason, if I recall, put the ball right on the money in Morgan's hands for a TD. Patriots could have been up 7 to 0 and had a Rocky 4 moment (you cut him, he's bleeding. You see he's not a machine, he is a man). No doubt in my mind the Bears would have a temporary chink in their armor. And if it had been Grogan instead of Eason starting (Oh Berry!), Morgan holds onto that catch, and we could have scrathced out a FG on the next drive?? We may have only lost 35 to 10 :) -- seriously it could have given the Patriots a chance to at least make the game competitive into the 4th quarter.

i think that Eason in that game replaced Grogan
in the 2nd half it was only Pats

Eason was perfect with 2 td and no int

in my opinion he is in my top 5 list of best qb in Pats history with Brady, Bledsoe, Parilli and Grogan

Yeah, I was at that one. Unbelievable...so unpatriot like, at the time.

Was that the one MacPerson ran out and tackled Millen in celebration?

Eason was a better passer. They would have run through a wall for Grogan, though.

Grogan had a strong arm, but no touch. Eason could drop the ball in your hands like it was a snowflake.
I seem to remember Grogan throwing a beautiful deep ball...

Can he protect the passer?
