I really, really hope the Pats draft Christian McCaffrey!! I'm rooting for him already! ;)

We need to load up for Edelmans replacement down the road.

I disagree. People who hate everybody of a particular sect are just ignorant.

FWIW, I'm just a dumb guy who likes fixing machines so take what I say from that level.

But my dad ( or grandfather if you are younger) never had to use separate entrances, refused jobs, etc because of his skin color. My father was from an extremely poor family and worked his way out of poverty by joining the military but did not have to serve in a segregated black platoon etc...

I would imagine a family's experiences during those times would have an impact on a family or a community's views and I don't think those feelings or views disappeared after MLK's speech.

I think we like to talk about available opportunities for all but I think some ignore 100's of years of events that led to income and educational disparity and the difficulties of overcoming those hurdles created by those events.

Conversely I think those views lead to a blind anger as well but still rooted to a different thing.

I grew up in a diverse environment but don't know what it's like being black nor does a black guy know what it is like to be white and both have those individuals that like to tell each what the other thinks or should think.

yeah, I think this is not so much about hating on cam cuz he's black, it's just that manning, being white, makes it quite easy to root for him.
there, I said it.

also, ima vote trump over ben jones cuz he's white, and anybody who says he's an attention whoring jackass trolling the world just hates on him cuz he's bald.

Couldn't care less if Cam were polka-dot embedded over an epidermis of chartreuse. It's his ****y, juvenile grandstanding that annoys me. Extremely disrespectful and unprofessional.

That being said, he's the lesser of two evils come Sunday. I hope he sends the Donkeys* and their arrogant fan base packing.

Darn, I'm rooting for Cam too! But if he loses, I'll still sleep fine. It's kind of a win/win....scratch that, it's a lose/lose situation

As an individual, I see no difference as either can be racist. As a whole, the only difference is which group is the majority or has more power.

Hatred knows no color

But my Point is that if it's acceptable to root for a player due to his/her being African American, then logic says it's just as acceptable to root for someone because they're Caucasian. Logic being the key word.

Especially in the NFL where Caucasians are the minority by a wide margin.

Otherwise, people would believe that it's only ok to root for any race that is not Caucasian. If some Caucasians hate Cam because he's black, that's pure racism just as if any black that hates Tom Brady because he's the pretty white boy must also be racist

I think only simple-minded (and wrong) people believe only Caucasians can be racists.

I agree that anyone can be a racist. I don't think the hate that fuels the racism stem from the same roots.

I think there is a difference between rooting for a QB because of his race and hating a QB because of his race.

I'm not sure if a black guy rooting for a black QB to win is right or wrong. Is that any different than a Filipino rooting for Tedy Bruschi because he was part Filipino? Interesting.

But my dad ( or grandfather if you are younger) ...
No matter what the readers age is, he's your dad. If I was 10, he'd still be your dad (not your grandfather) to me.

And opinions are just as valid no matter what our education level.

I agree that in many ways, black racism toward whites is more "understandable" than white racism toward those that are black. But they're both still wrong.

Wrong doesn't really come in degrees.

it's not a question of being 'right or wrong' -- ppl are free to root for whoever they want, for whatever reason.

but when you do just don't whine about the rest of the world making race an issue, or white ppl rooting for some player cuz he's white.
btw, how many black ppl do you think root against white players?

It's logical that people root for groups or people most like us, but it's sad also.

I know for a fact that had I grown up in the Carolinas, if be rooting for Cam and not Tom Brady. If I was black living in New England, I hope if still root for Tom. But I'd probably be more of a Cam fan than I am.

It's not really about race, but basic human nature in my opinion. Regardless of whether I like him or not, neither is more honorable.

I was referring to era. My Dad was born in the 1940's and a younger guy's father may have been born in the 60's which was a different era. I could have clarified that better.

I'm not justifying hate btw.. just that there are different reasons for it.

I was responding to a post about rooting for .....and did not say I knew anyone who did. Just to be clear.

I do know people who root for a player because of their heritage or nationality. Japanese baseball players, Chinese basketball players, Filipino football players etc....and wondered if there was any difference.

so, hue jackson just got signed by browns and right away he's talkin' about cuttin' a brutha........hmmmmm.........

Not for me. I really like Russell Wilson because I can identify with his work ethic and commitment to team how he stays driven and humble. Color has zero to do with it. Even though he's a Steeler I really liked the way Roethleisberger played the game but he ruined it by being a creep.

I'll give you an example of how somebody can beyond reason win me over and I'm sure many felt this way. I always respected Mariano Rivera but he played for a team I hated. He had a quiet undemonstrative but yet supremely confident air about him. You knew if he pitched for your team you would love him. Then opening day 05 the crowd cheers him at Fenway in a loud yet knowingly mocking manner. He puts on the biggest smile and just waves his hat and just let's it roll of him. Bang, I'm a fan for life.

It's all about how they play and acting with class for me.

ps Cam is probably one of the most team-oriented people in the NFL, the unit cohesion of the Panthers is as good as anything I've seen in the NFL since the 2001 Pats

isn't he basically stealing those footballs?

I see nothing wrong with a black person openly rooting for Cam Newton. As a matter of fact, it seems natural to me to think that would happen.

What we should have a problem with are white people who would root against Newton, just for being black. Hopefully those people are few and far between, and don't pass their racist beliefs on to their children.

where's all the outrage about racists hating on mike carey?

doesn't a black ref scare anybody?

Just to play evil's advocate, if it's natural for Blacks to root for Cam why isn't it natural for whites to root for a White players, or not root for a Black player?

think everybody who followed the nba back in the 90s heard about that time jordan punched steve kerr in practice, now I just happed to see a youtube of horace grant talking about the time jordan punched will purdue.....
