In the era of Brady, everyone probably wants to keep Eason a long distance memory, but he did get us to our first SB Of course, Grogan had to take over because Eason was getting killed--but in any case, it was neat to see that Eason's son, an impressive qb specimen at 6'6 220, is no. 7 in the country and will playing for Georgia.
The way things are going, who knows, maybe he'll be the one to lead the next generation after brady ;), even though I do personally hope we are able to hold on to Jimmy G.

Oops--a different Tony Eason. I tried to delete post--sorry. Anyway, the kid does look good. lol

Yeah, I just saw that--is one able to delete a thread? I saw editing but not delete.
You could ask a mod to move it to the practice squad forum

I liked Tony Eason. He helped take us to a SB. His 1986 was every bit as good as Elway's and we ended up losing a close game in the AFC Divisional round to the Broncos.
To be honest...that's nothing to scoff at.

Apparently, Tony Eason's wife had an affair with some dude in Feb 1997.

He was fine- but lazy.

Lazy in what sense?
We had the cocaine scandal on the 1985 team so I am sure there weren't a ton of guys we can through bouquets at.

You may laugh at this, but Eason was a very accurate QB who rarely threw the ball up for grabs in an effort to "make plays." He probably would accel in the right system of short accurate passing.
Grogan was the gunslinger who would run, take hits, take chances to make plays. He turned it over more.
If the tuck rule/snow bowl game was a loss, we could have a similar conversation about Bledsoe vs Brady in February 2002.
I am not saying Eason was going to be Brady, but they share a similar analogy.

Tony Eason had 2.5 good years here. He had the talent and physical makeup to be much, much more but instead was a bust.

One knock on Tony Eason here was that he avoided conditioning and the weight room like the plague. I remember hearing Pete Brock and in another time John Hannah saying that Eason basically didn't like to, "Hang with the lineman in the weight room and it showed up on the training table.".

The other knock was that he was lazy student of the game. If you recall he had a shaky rookie year which was fine. Then a really good 1/2 2nd year under Ron Meyer. Why? Because he dummied down the playbook. Once Berry took over he opened up the offense, Eason didn't keep up and tailed off in '84. He and started crappy in '85, got hurt and came back to only throw a handful of passes a game (which was fine). In '86 he did have a good year but again, as the season went on, once Berry expanded the offense and added more plays, Eason chose not to keep up and as the season went on was less effective. I remember Grogan making a comment to the effect of, "Tony was never an A student of football.." .

I think in the final analysis he just wasn't a worker.

Maybe Tony can be the new Archie Manning with a pro-Patriots twist.

Just have to start doing favors for the media and ride your children's success

Being a ball-less wonder didn't help him much, either

Yea Tony wasn't exactly the kinda QB you run through a wall for.

He was about as dynamic and inspiring as a corpse.

Reminds me of hearing stories about Adam being one of the hardest workers in the weight room. People said you wouldn't know he was a kicker if you hadn't known better.

That is a key tenant to the culture that BB has established here. You may not be the most physically gifted, or the most talented player but if you are not 100% committed to work hard, learn and apply it well at a reasonable rate and try every day to be a better player here you are weeded out of here pretty quick.

It's fair to say that Tony Eason would not have survived here let alone being drafted.

How was Grogan? Wasn't alive for those days. Sounds like he wasn't great but, he was tough and the players respected him.
