Because, supposedly, there is a $150 million termination clause in Goodell's contract.. Why the owners would have agreed to that is beyond me..

That's going to look like a bargain when this scumbag retires and leaves his own stamp on the league and people have long since bailed out on the sport in favor of something else.

Golden Parachute....NFL-style.

They're still laughing at the bank.. They continue to sell out and continue to make hundreds of millions of dollars..
I thought they might, but I haven't followed it since I was a kid, but knew they were still crushing it.

Golden Parachute....NFL-style.

It is absolute madness to what they agreed to.

If you look at the golden parachutes other CEOs of billion dollar corporations receive if they are canned it is not even in the same ballpark.

IBM-$14.6m
HP- $51m ($90m ifacquired)
EMC- $23m
Apple- $0

But...but...but...HE is worth every Penny. Modern Day Society has broken down.....do they turn to the Government? No. Do they turn to their Religion? No. Do they turn to their Loved Ones? No. Everyone turns to the NFL for Comfort and Direction. Who but Roger Goodell has done more to relieve the daily stress of the American People...NO! The World!...by providing NFL Quality entertainment chock full, chock full I say, of Morality and Integritude and Monster Concussion-Proof Collisions!?!?

$150 million? A pittance.

Rollerball anyone?

All of these owners think they are some kind of gift to society...even Bob.

‘‘We offer a respite,’’ Jerry Jones, the rascally owner of the Dallas Cowboys, told me. ‘‘We are a respite that moves you away from your trials and missteps, or my trials and missteps.’’ Jones describes a weekly display in which representatives from my town and your town meet up. ‘‘And we’ll just have a big old time, being relevant to one another.’’

Here are a few $100 million plus golden parachutes.....

These CEOs Got Paid $100+ Million Each To Quit

What. A. List.

I would argue that Welch, Gerstner and Whitacre voluntarily retired. All 3 made a crapload of money for their respective shareholders.

Of those 3 men (and I've personally met two of them) that I mention, Goodell doesn't have a 1000th of their leadership, savvy and business acumen.

Off topic and said a million times, but I just wanted to comment on how un-American Goodell's position in life is. Average or below average in every single way aside from intelligence (severely below average). Has a bs communications degree, had to rely on family connections to get a job. Displays his incompetence at every turn as Commissioner. Doesn't even have charisma or looks to fall back on, he's a bloody ginger with a turkey neck ffs. But yet he's a .01%er, or better.

No wonder Bernie Sanders is so damn popular, can you blame people when this is what they see?

I personally think that Welch did tremendous damage to American business. People emulated him and his ideas, but it turned out that there was a lot of smoke and mirrors in GE's performance. The whole "get rid of 10% of your workforce" idea is toxic, IMO.

GE'S AWKWARD EXIT FROM INSURANCE - December 12, 2005
Before GE sells its reinsurance operation to Swiss Re for $6.8 billion, the contract requires GE--that is, except for a couple of qualifications that may or may not turn out to mean a lot--to add $3.4 billion to its reserves for future claims costs. In this year's books, that will be the main cause of an after-tax $2.8 billion loss for insurance at GE.

The hard fact is, any additions to reserves are a cost that should have been matched to premiums recorded in earlier years or the first three quarters of 2005. So if GE were to actually put up the full $3.4 billion, it would be acknowledging--implicitly--that its costs were hugely understated in the past and its profits overstated.

Both Swiss Re and GE have said that most of the reserves are likely to be assigned to pre-2001 years. That would mean the overstated profits occurred on former CEO Jack Welch's watch. The $3.4 billion in reserves, if applied to GE's four best insurance years, 1996--99, would undo more than 90% of the insurance earnings that GE reported for that period. (Welch declined to comment.)

You guys do realize that Kraft will remain a loyal toadie no matter what? Roger could publicly admit the league was refusing to release the PSI data and Kraft will meekly squawk but still do NOTHING. All this NFL unethical conduct will amount to nothing because Timid Bob will DO NOTHING.

and his degree is from a non-elite college to be kind. With his family connections ( and we are the same age) a phone call should have gotten him into an Ivy League school if he even had 500s on his SAT scores.. He must be really low on the intelligence which explains his failure to understand the Ideal Gas Law.....

His father was named US Senator from New York after Robert Kennedy's assassination. That was in 1968.

No one every accused Jack Welch of being a choir boy. ;)

My original point is that from a business standpoint, Roger Goodell is not even in the same galaxy as Jack Welch.

Yeah, not a dig at you. I just think the whole adulation of CEOs is a huge problem in the U.S. We way over-value their contribution and importance.

Don't take my word for it. Take Warren Buffett's:

In some businesses, not even brilliant management helps

I’ve said many times that when a management with a reputation for brilliance tackles a business with a reputation for bad economics, it is the reputation of the business that remains intact. (1989)

Good jockeys will do well on good horses, but not on broken-down nags. (1989)

When an industry’s underlying economics are crumbling, talented management may slow the rate of decline. Eventually, though, eroding fundamentals will overwhelm managerial brilliance. (As a wise friend told me long ago, “If you want to get a reputation as a good businessman, be sure to get into a good business.”) (2006)

My conclusion from my own experiences and from much observation of other businesses is that a good managerial record (measured by economic returns) is far more a function of what business boat you get into than it is of how effectively you row (though intelligence and effort help considerably, of course, in any business, good or bad). (1985)

Should you find yourself in a chronically-leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks. (1985)

Roger and Bernie have allot in common. They appeal to the masses by telling them what they want to hear. In our case NE represents the 1% and Roger is playing to the masses. At the end of the day I don't trust any of them. I think demagogeruery is always designed to rile up the misinformed. See the fan bases of 31 other teams as your test piece.
