Why would it effect Hightower and Collins? They are LBs, he is a DE.

Irrelevant to Hightower/Collins since they aren't even in the same position.

I love Jones and I'd love to see him stick around, but he's not worth that much. I personally wouldn't pay him more than $8 million a year. We will see how much Belichick values Jones but I don't think we will see Jones after next season.

I know! I'm trying to understand what the hell the Eagles were doing with this one...

Should we be surprised in the market for this level of DE and LB is $9-$10M AAV?

The open question is who Belichick will sign/extend for that amount of money.

Curry plays OLB and DE for the Eagles. He is a front 7 player and his contract will have an impact on all 3, it would be completely naive to believe that mediocre player signing a $9.5M per year deal wouldn't impact Collins and Hightower.

Yeah we should be surprised that a player with 12 tackles and 3.5 sacks last year received a $9.5M+ contract.

Nate Ebner had more tackles than Curry.. I would be scared if someone wasn't surprised.

Just in case people thought the Pats might somehow sign Vinny Curry, a part time rotational player who only fit into one scheme, here's your reality check. Teams are going to be paying young, unproven free agents this offseason like they have monopoly money because #potential and #upside. I desperately want the Pats to upgrade at a couple positions this offseason through free agency, but the FA class if pretty weak (except maybe at Oline) and there's a lot of homegrown talent to be taken care of first, so i'm not overly optimistic that will happen.

Here's to Bill proving me wrong and Forehead getting demolished on Sunday.

DEs get paid a lot. Other positions don't as much. What's the issue here?

So....this means that Chandler Jones won't be staying on for a 5/35 type of contract? ;)

This, in a nutshell, is why I'm pretty sure Jones is gone after next season. Sucks, but it is what it is; if Vinny Curry is worth that much, I don't even want to know what Jones is worth. He's going to hit FA a year younger than Curry is now, as a much better and much more versatile player with over twice as many sacks. Better for the Pats to use what money they have to lock up Collins, Hightower and Butler.

Yup, this is exactly why i don't understand in any way how we would be able to keep all 3. Collins and Hightower by their position should probably be in the 5-6yr/$45-55mil range, while some team would probably pay north of 5yr/$65mil simply based on Jones' sack production. Factor in his every down type role, and it could go up. Again, Jones is a great player, but I don't think he's worth that to the Pats...especially considering recent history of not showing up in big games from a pass rush perspective.

The salary cap is going up and so will the contracts.
