OT: Cam Newton & the race card

You think Aluminum seats is racists?

Do you think people throw out the racists tag a little too quickly these days? Just curious.
I don't know her/him. Do you? Just curious. What I think is that some people post and/or say incredibly insensitive, bigoted stuff and then like little children they hide. And what they hide behind is the "I'm sick and tired of 'political correctness' ", as if that makes all of the vile, despicable crap they spew all right. Well, it doesn't. It's cowardly, and it's excuse-making and it's blaming others for their own short-comings. It's the stuff of gutless ****ies.

You're pathetic.

You're pathetic.
There's a well-thought out response. Oh, and for what it's worth, I never called you a racist. As I wrote to Tony, I don't know you. I can't have a genuinely informed opinion regarding whether or not you're a racist. What I do believe after reading this thread is that there are racists on this board and more than a couple. Been here since 2008 and didn't believe that until now. To me, it's stunning and disappointing. But, I've been stunned and disappointed before.

I'm fine with that. Obama lost some votes because he was black and also gained some votes because he was black, probably more due to turnout in each case than to people explicitly changing from one candidate to another.

But my main point in this thread is a different one: People who would have voted against Obama no matter what his skin color is hate him more strongly than they would if he were white.

You know what? I don't think I can argue for or against that but I suspect you are correct at least at some level.

I've looked through 30 years of voting data to see if there was any significant change between the votes Obama received and the votes a white democratic candidate received in past elections and I do not see any significant differences. I hope that indicates a good thing.

I tried to compare Obama to Clinton as they were both two term Presidents and saw some differences between first and second term. Obama outperformed Clinton by a wide margin in the white vote during his first term but Clinton slightly outperformed Obama during the second term. Which could be explained simply by looking at the economic conditions during both second term elections or it could be a race issue. No way for me to determine that or I don't know enough to properly analyze that data.

Anyways thanks for the discussion.

It's the response you deserve. Unfounded charges of racism are sadly all too common in this country, and quite destructive. In order to have a more grounded dialogue, I asked you to cite some of the "loads" of racist comments here. Rather than do so, you posted a phone number for the KKK and said I must have the number on "speed dial." These comments show you unworthy of respect, or serious response.

And then you go on to say, "for what it's worth, I never called you a racist." So you say someone has the KKK on speed dial and then try and deny that you threw out a racist charge. That makes you, oh, I don't know, what's the phrase? Oh that's right.

A gutless p*ssy.

Wrong, if Brady did something like that, I'd be ashamed, as would 99% of the fan base.

I see a lot of ppl comparing cam to brady on this particular thing or that.

If brady consistently acted like a me first attention starved douche I would most def not be cheering him on.

I couldn't give a **** about some banner

I don't know anyone on this forum.

I did see some things that would be sensitive but if there isn't an open forum to discuss them then how do you get past them?

I saw variations of old generation/new generation thinking etc...

I don't know how you call someone a racist when they are openly discussing the issue. Would a guy who hates a race openly discuss race issues on a football forum? I don't know but I doubt it.

See, you have to learn the items in the "you're racist and you don't know it" argumentative toolkit.

Comments like "Keep telling yourself that..." is a big one. It's really best in person, of course, so the person saying it can chuckle knowingly when they say it, maybe shake their head a little bit. Loses a little something on a message board.
Actually, this particular argument hasn't got the slightest thing to do with racism. It's merely another example of the double standard players of other teams are held to.

Hey Tony, trivial grammatical point...you're using the plural racists when you should use just racist.

I hate Goodell...am I a racist?

No. Disreputable criminals lacking moral fiber or basic visible qualities of human decency exist in all races.

Thanks.

You know this reminds me of the time I was fighting a grease fire in the kitchen and my wife yelled, "your shoe is untied!". hahaha

Just kidding. Thanks for the correction.

Nope. You list them. This should help, but I'm guessing it's already on your speed dial: 1-800-293-5781.

There isn't a single r-r-racist post in this thread and that's a fact, not an opinion.

Maybe you're suffering from some sort unfounded guilt complex?

It's hard to fathom but there are actually some Caucasians that feel guilty for others' actions. It makes no sense and there's no explanation for it, but they're out there.

The difference between Gronks & Bradys celebrations in comparison to Cams Celebrations, are the fact that Brady and Gronks are much more natural and genuine, and often include other team mates. Where Newton's are purely choreographed and planned, with the sole intention of bringing all the attention to himself, and boosting his already arrogant and huge ego.
Cam Newton dabs and gives a ball to a kid

Just as an FYI to better prepare you for life...

Racism does not always need to be discussed with careful sensitivity. Nor should anyone "pick a side" in this discussion. It can be discussed totally devoid of any emotion at all....as a matter of fact, it SHOULD be discussed without emotion

You seem to think it should be an emotional experience...why is that?

Somebody needs to go back to elementary school and learn the difference between facts and opinions.

"But I said that I'm not a person that can necessarily be labeled, because when I was coming out I was labeled to guys that are no longer in this league. And I didn't mean it to come off as a race thing. I didn't mean it to come off as anybody that's being brash or flamboyant about a specific question. I was just saying facts. I'm hoping to be a trailblazer to not give an avenue not only to African-American quarterbacks but athletic quarterbacks as well. You can be Caucasian. You can be any type of ethnicity outside of African American and that's what I was trying to preach."
