Josh McDaniels failure to make adjustments

How do you game plan for a unit of 5 that cannot block 3 guys?

Patriots need a running game.
No patriots need an oline.
That would ALSO give them a running game.

Our OL was a portrait of walking wounded. You guys remember we lost to Miami on last game of season...MIAMI! You know we needed that game for the one seed. Still could not pull out this game on the road. So we beat the Chiefs at home but we just didn't have enough healing time for our guys to be in shape to face a team with the defensive caliber of the Broncos on the road.
That, mostly, out of all the possible excuses we could come up with, was why we lost.
Plus, I will give credit to where it is due, that is Denver played well. Even though they suck donkey ****.

They won the SB last yr by calling a great game. They get a pass for the whole yr IMO .
No way. That's doing the job last year, doesn't earn a pass from doing your job this year.

How the hell do you adjust to three individual offensive linemen consistently losing their matchups? Sticking a tight end on the field doesn't fix that.
Change the blocking scheme. Call different plays.

There was play or two that featured using Cameron Flemming as a TE and guess what he did? He fit right in and totally whiffed. Someone posted during the game thread that we should just as well play 10 vs 11.

It's easier to blame coaching than it is to admit there is a deficiency in talent. The coaching wasn't the best by any stretch of the imagination but it's hard as an offensive coordinator to adjust when the defense is reading your center's tells and blowing the OL off the ball.
If the D is reading the center that's a big F for fail grade on the OL coach. It's not a lack of talent it's a lack of execution and technique. That's on the coach not the player. Coach did not do his job.

Thats what said "IMO". Everyone has different opinions. At if you look at the screen shot breakdowns, at some point , the guys have to simply block i.e do their job. OC cant call that from the sideline when cannon is watching the pigeons in the grass when miller is waltzing by him.

i agree 100% the coaching was not good on sunday but there is not many adjustments you can do if a team can get to your QB with a 3 and 4 man rush on every snap

Even when sending 3 guys Denver was still getting there pathetic.
Christ I keep forgetting about that. They were getting home w/not only four rushers, but sometimes three. That's more infuriating. What a meltdown with that unit.

Can we have a section for cry baby thread s?

A coordinator blaming the Oline coach seems pretty like it's to cover himself

There is no coordinator more appropriate for the Pats and Brady than mcdaniels. Let's not forget that he has taken the team to two super bowls and won one of them.

It's no fault of McDaniels that the line couldn't block and I will be sad when he leaves to become head coach.

I agree that they need to come up with a package when teams play a certain defense. Obviously the line sucked, but when you have a maximum of two games left, you don't need to fix every possible flaw, you just need to make a few first downs.

Remember, as awful as they looked, they were always in a position to tie or win with a few different plays.

I guess some dispute this, but it seems to me that teams flooding the zone and messing up crossing routes has been a problem in some big games.

The difference between acknowledging that and the fact that the OLine and coaching sucked is, you can practice a few counter plays for when you need them.

If you can fire the Oline coach and draft or acquire new linemen during the game, that's news to me.

Not if the oline coach either refused or was incapable of doing the job correctly.

People forget that point. IMO, coaching should get a little acknowledgement for giving themselves a shot in the most desperate of situations (of course big thanks to Matty P for turning up the heat second half). Most teams would absolutely fold in those situations, total blow outm. Patriots were still in the game with 12 seconds left, showing some true grit and cajones the size of boulders. Not saying that this gives a pass to anyone, Jamie Collins giving up a soft TD , The play of Marcus Cannon + Kline + Vollmer and general preparation from all areas of the team deserve to be criticized. It was an awful game to watch from the losing side but we fought till the bitter end. Nothing is going to make a loss feel good, but that point can help up rest a LITTLE easier. We WILL be back.

Losing Dion Lewis and not having a replacement hurt this offense big time.

James White was a huge disappointment yesterday and was targeted something like 16 times.

Most teams don't have backups as good as the starters. James White is not great by any means, but he is good especially for a backup in this league. Many of those 16 targets were thrown at his feet while Brady was avoiding a sack.

110% disagree!!!! I don't know about you, but from the draft on, myself and most fans invest a lot of time into the following of this team. From reading updates to watching every quarter of every preseason game ton making sure 4-6 hours every week during the season are set aside without interruption....we as the consumer deserve and frankly demand the best product be on the field ever week. And the way this team was handled this year was a slap in the face to most fans. From the horrible play calling to the surrender of HFA!!!
