A record number of players have declined this year.

I've been saying for years that they should do away with the Pro Bowl and have a skills competition that they used to have decades ago. I don't watch the pro bowl anymore, but I'd probably watch the skills competition. Those were awesome back in the day, and new technology could make them much better.

What are some other health-related reasons players aren't going?
"I have a problem with my eyes. I can't see myself going to the Pro Bowl."
"I think I have an intestinal blockage, cuz I can't give a **** about the Pro Bowl."
"I must have nerve damage. I just ain't feeling it."

I get why they don't want to play because the game is a joke...but as a most-expenses-paid vacation to Hawaii in an atmosphere that's kind of one of worlds best belated employee holiday parties it doesn't seem THAT bad.

Also the NHL s actually suspending Jonathan Toews for the Hawks next reg season game for skipping the AS game (due to "illness"). Lol. Hopefully Rog doesn't catch on to that one.

This Year's Pro Bowl Would Win the Scam Olympics

That's one idea but, in the hands of an intelligent marketer, their's a zillion ways you could take players and foreign locales dying for football, and have some sort of entertaining promotion every year. Of course, what they have is Goodell, the Edsel of marketers.

He's destroyed interest in the league so much, I wouldn't be surprised if some players oversleep and forget to go to the super bowl.

Of course, fans are at a fever pitch here in NC as the Carolina Cougars from Winston Salem continue their undefeated season.

I've posted it before but, why no

I know I've posted it before, but why not can the stupid London franchise, have a limited hitting flag football type mostly passing game, and/or skills competition and have it in a beautiful foreign city/resort every year?

Fans get autographs and face time with players, TV gets lots of players visiting landmarks footage and players and their families get to visit interesting foreign countries with tour guides and without the risk of looking dumb, or being unsafe.

Imagine Tom and Giselle leading a bunch of players through Carnivale preparations, Rio etc.

You couldn't sell that on TV?

It's just incredible that, besides being an evil corrupt liar, Goodell is so useless at his job.

The NHL has a rule that if you miss the game for ANY reason it's a one game suspension. I can see Lord Douchebag seeing this and thinking it's a good idea.

Skipgate. All 7 Patriots who skipped will be suspended the first four games of next season.

Bank on it.

They will stop having the pro bowl when they still getting paid for it.

Wasn't there a "playoff bowl" before the merger where teams that fell one game short of the championship would play for "3rd place" in the league? LOL. I think that's more worthless than the pro bowl.

I wonder if the winner of that game called the Colts for their banner? :p

Do something to give incentive. Like the MLB All Star game. Hold pro-bowl selections after the Super Bowl, and have them play the last week of August. Get rid of the extra preseason game. Winning conference hosts the Super Bowl. Boom. Problem solved. Goose for Commish.

Tyler Eifert leaves Aloha stadium in a walking boot....

... that right there should send a message to the league.

You can send a message, but will the league understand it?

not a shock.

the NFL has shown they dont care about severe head trauma, why should the players risk additional games for a chance at $50,000? the only players that need that money are low end guys.

I don't like that rule, but I actually loved what the NHL did this past weekend. The 3 on 3 tournament was a lot of fun, and I found myself actually more invested in those games, even though they were still just as meaningless as any all star game.

Obviously the NFL can't do a tournament for logistical reasons, but that kind of drastic shakeup to the format may be necessary at this point.
