OL, are the pieces there or is a lot of change up needed?

Question: Did Scarnecchia assist Googs initially or partly in 2014? I seem to think I read or heard that somewhere.

I'm pretty sure that he took part in the scouting/drafting process, and helped to choose the players that we selected. Not sure if he helped in any other capacity, though.

I hate Kline as a starter. He's ok as a backup G.

since we have almost all players under contract for next year and our 1st round was robbed, i would love to go after one of the best guards in the FA and sign him for the duration of Brady's career (let's say 3 more years).

I believe so, wouldn't be surprised if he's still scouting for us. Sounds like he still loves the game but, just doesn't want to do it year round anymore.

I think we have a good start to our OL. Another offseason, the shame and motivation from the 2015 season and a new OL coach.

-Vollmer at RT and Solder at LT.
-Stork and Andrews at C
-Mason and Jackson at G
-Kline as a capable backup

-Would like to resign Wendell and Waddle for depth.

-Cut Cannon and Cam Fleming.

-Sign starting caliber OT. Either draft the OT or sign a young, good FA. Can takeover for Vollmer when his contract is up

-Sign starting caliber OG. OG I think we sign an older, good FA like a Richie Incognito to a 2 year contract to be a stopgap/insurance for Mason and Jackson.

If we have Mason, Jackson, Kline and Wendell at OG, that's a full house, especially with 2 centers.

I'm fine with most of the pieces, but sick of seeing a mix of unproven players man the interior. I would love to see one vet FA signing of the Brian Waters variety and let Jackson, Mason and Kline fight it out.

I also think it is time to invest a day 2 pick on a starting caliber OT.

Quantity all set. Quality lacking.

Hard for me to see Cannon ever being a tackle.

In fairness to Cannon, his natural position in this league is OG. His feet just aren't quick enough for edge rushers, esp motivated guys in contract years like he faced on Sunday.

Well ... one more thing ...

When I saw Waddle did not make the trip I became seriously deflated ...

If healthy I wonder if that would have made enough of a difference to win by 3 or 6 or 7?

I think it would have. He definatley would have been better than Cannon.

We need more quality. Brady has always covered for his line by getting it out quick but if he has to hold onto it more then a few seconds he's in trouble. Aside from playing the Colts we've also had trouble consistently being able to run. An upgrade at tackle depth (please no more Cannon or Fleming) and a starting quality guard are needed.

I predict that health and a new OL coach will make a considerable difference next year. It's not as bad as we saw on Sunday.

No matter how many times we say this, it simply isn't true. Cannon has looked pretty bad at OG. An OG position has been there for the taking since he's been here. He's gotten opportunities in camp and in the regular season. He just isn't an NFL quality guard.

Cannon's no guard. That's been proven over and over. As to his feet, he needs tennis and or fencing lessons in the off-season, maybe dancing, too. Something to get him conscious of his footwork and balance.

Hard to say because we became spoiled with the likes of Dante Scarnecchia and his ability to evaluate and coach players to play at a level that they would never be able to reach on most other NFL teams. If they find someone to replace Dave DeGuglielmo that is worth their weight then the need to pay high-priced free agents isn't there. I would imagine that this is probably closer to BB's thinking as opposed to paying free agents.

Matt Light's comments would indicate that a lot of progress will be made with better coaching. I don't think we can tell how bad or good the players are under the conditions he articulated.

Cannon's no guard...
He's certainly no Left Guard, and he's no Left Tackle either. The question then remains: Does he suck
less at Right Tackle or Right Guard, or does he suck just as badly at both positions?

There is room on this team for only 2 of Cannon, Fleming & Jackson. Jackson's spot is pretty much a
given, so that means one of Cannon & Fleming MUST go. My choice to go is Cannon because of the cap
savings, but if he agrees to play for only the vet minimum with zero guarantees, then he & Fleming can
blob it out to see who's less crappy at the end of TC.

Why would Cannon agree to compete for vet minimum with zero guarantees?

Because he would be cut otherwise if I had anything to say about it.

Dante tried him at G. He failed miserably...well not as miserably as he failed at OT during the AFCCG. So he can't really play, period.
