Reports have also confirmed water is indeed wet.

But really this isn't news to anyone with a brain. Most wins ever, most cumulative stats in the big game etc.

Although I'm shocked Montana is somehow behind aikman.

Montana and Brady, in either order, need to be 1-2.

Edge for Montana:
- Zero losses
- Zero interceptions
- Better QB rating

Edge for Brady:
- Six appearances vs. four for Montana (same number of wins - 4)
- More cumulative yards and TD

The zero losses and interceptions thing is pretty big. And in terms of rate stats, Montana was better. But Brady got there two more times (maybe more in the future), and his cumulative totals are better.

As far as the opponents they faced, here's Montana's opponents and their defensive rankings:

81-82 Cin - #12 points, #12 yards
84-85 Mia - #9 points, #19 yards
88-89 Cin - #16 points, #16 yards
89-90 Den - #1 points, #3 yards
AVERAGE: #9.5 points, #12.5 yards

Brady's SB opponents and their defensive rankings:

01-02 StL - #7 points, #3 yards
03-04 Car - #10 points, #8 yards
04-5 Phi - #2 points, #10 yards
07-08 NYG - #17 points, #7 yards
11-12 NYG - #25 points, #27 yards
14-15 Sea - #1 points, #1 yards
AVERAGE: #10.3 points, #9.3 yards

The Patriots played both the worst (11-12 NYG) and the best (14-15 Sea) defenses on this list. Montana's 55 points against Denver's 89-90 defense is probably more impressive than Brady's 28 points against Seattle's 14-15 defense.

Overall, the battle between Brady and Montana for best SB player of all time is very, very close.

using zero loses to make your case for Montana makes absolutely no sense. I'll take brady at 4 and 2. you have to get to the Superbowl to win or lose it. getting to two more Superbowls the edge goes to brady. if you keep going to the Superbowl eventually your gonna lose.

Brady for the win.

Not that I care in the least about the ESPN story, but this is precisely why I am not all that down about this last loss.

Sure I would have preferred a win.

But hey, this has been and may very well continue to be an awesome run, with one of the classiest freaking dudes in sports as our QB.

So we don't win the Superbowl every year. We compete every year, and win it all some years.

"Thanks, Captain Obvious!!!" ;)

Looks like some one is trying to suck up to us now  Screw it, my boycott of that despeciable channel continues in its full glory !

C'mon. We all know that Brady is No. 1 because the fanbases of 31 other teams will chime in with arguments and click on their site.

No surprise - the NFL disagrees: Boston Herald: 22 Hall Of Famers Make Super Bowl Golden Team

OFFENSE
Joe Montana, QB; Jay Novacek, TE; Emmitt Smith, Franco Harris, RB; Lynn Swann, Jerry Rice, WR; Mike Webster, C; Art Shell, Forrest Gregg, T; Gene Upshaw, Larry Allen, G.
DEFENSE
Reggie White. Charles Haley, DE; Joe Greene, Randy White, DT; Lawrence Taylor, Jack Ham, OLB; Ray Lewis, Jack Lambert, ILB; Mel Blount, Deion Sanders, CB; Ronnie Lott, Jake Scott, S.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Adam Vinatieri, PK; Ray Guy, P; Desmond Howard, KR.
Only one active player on the list.

You knew the NFL would find a way to keep Brady away. :)

In terms of better overall player 4-2 beats 4-0. However in terms of who is the better Super Bowl player 4-0 beats 4-2.

I'm not sure how losing a Super Bowl makes you a better Super Bowl player.

participation counts for something ;)

Best Super Bowl QB - Joe Montana
Best QB - Tom Brady

I would say that depends how you got the "2"... In this case if if the defense makes 2 stops that "2" might be a "0".

I would be so utterly entertained to hear the logic of Aikman over Montana. lol.

Maybe it involves QBR!

I'm certain Troy himself would disagree.

In a perfect world, you go full throttle, run up the score and don't look back.

But catching up takes more energy, risks, and character.

no i don't think so. you are 100 percent wrong. montana didn't get to 6 super bowls so we will never know what he would have done if he did. the more super bowls you play in increases the chances of losing. 4 and 2 beats 4 and 0
