Biggest disappointments this whole season?

If only we could have won either one of the Eagles, Jets and Dolphins games we would most likely be going to SB 50 :(
Not securing HFA is my biggest disappointment because I feel we would have beaten the Broncos if the AFCCG was held in Foxboro. Anyway its on to next season and with TB12, Belichick and a healthier team, I like our chances going into next season. I am really proud with the way the team fought with the injuries all season and still getting to an AFCCG in the process is an achievement in itself.
When you lose winnable games like that, it hurts. If there is one "excuse/reason" we could use for this lack of a win in any of these games, injuries. The Eagles game, though, did have those 3 fluky TDs all scored in one game coming off a blocked punt, a very long punt return and a 99 yard pick 6. You do not see that in one game, if ever!

1. Belichicks handling of the last 1/4 of the season
2. The Philadelphia game entirety
3. The Miami game entirety
4. OT vs the NYJ

People say it's whining but I fully believe the Pats would be playing for one for the thumb had they won any of those games....

He played great today. 144 yards I think… amazing.

But deep bone bruises heal within a week or two…. towards the end of the year he acted like he was coming back from another ACL injury.
What exactly is your medical background and how did you get access to Gronks medical information? Also
bones bruises actually take about 2 months to heal. Go troll somewhere else

Lmao...."disappointing season." unf.ckingbelievable.

If I think and feel it was disappointing season for me how can you state my feeling and belief is inf.ckbelievable?

You can argue about Belichick screwing up the last two weeks of the season with stupid play calling, no commitment to the running game, injuries to Lewis/Blount/Solder/Edelman, the dumb decision to drop kick up 14-0, the choice to use Harper as a punt returner when Chung was doing a fine job, the refs bad calls in Denver, a piss poor OL, bad special teams gaffes in the Eagles game, the highest paid kicker in the NFL missing an XP---and the list could go on and on and on.

Blaming Rob Gronkowski from rushing back from injury when he clearly was hobbled and had to miss one game wouldn't even be on my radar. Nowhere near it, to be honest.
Not to belabor this, but how do any of us know enough about the situation to say it was a rush for him to play the Eagles game?

It may have been earlier than he wanted but if it was a situation where both sides knew the extent of the injury, the risks of playing etc. and knowing all that team wanted him to play in what ever capacity he could but his camp said no, I have to think Belichick will stew over it in the off season. Just my opinion.

Because it's unbelievable to me that any reasonable fan of this team could be, disappointed in their season when they battled through a ton of injuries and gambled on their young CBs and ended up 2 points from another trip to the Super Bowl.

I never thought of you as completely unreasonable before and I get the disappointment over the loss but I simply can't see how the season was a disappointment.

I hear what you're saying and believe that you have a point that we don't know the severity, but we share a bit of a difference of opinions regarding that particular issue, that's all.

Like I said, I could see myself fretting over any number of things that happened after Thanksgiving, but for me--Gronk missing the PHI game wouldn't really be on the list.

I wouldn't call the season a disappointment given the injury situation. Its disappointing the injuries happened and we all hope next year we'll see a healthier team but given what they had to work with it was remarkable where they ended up.

I tend to side with your general thinking here, Ivan--but the word "disappointment" can have a bit of a loose definition as well, so in that regard I can definitely see @Brewskies point too.

After all, it's certainly disappointing that we were just 10-0 talking about going undefeated on the "GFY--NFL" tour, and all of a sudden, the entire season went up in flames. Unfortunately, the expectations are always high for this fanbase and the fact that we started off 10-0 only added to that. Once the bottom fell out and all kinds of freaky stuff started to happen, it was rather disappointing.

This of course, doesn't take away from your main point that we should all be thankful to have had the opportunity to watch our team in the AFCCG once again, which is remarkable. It truly is a shame however, that we've gone to the conference title game FIVE years in a row and walked away with one Lombardi, and I think that's kind of what leads to the disappointment.

Edit: Just saw that Tuck addressed this while I was typing.

For me I felt there were a lot of bad coaching decision made in the last 3 games that I never ever expected.

OK, fair enough. I guess I just don't get it and I'm seeing so much of it that I feel like I took a wrong turn into the dolphins forum , where massive disappointment and anger would be expected.

I look at it from pretty much the opposite direction. I think they paid a price this season for the injuries they had to deal with but the flip side of that is that played a lot of young guys and they will benefit from that next season. Not every player works out and they had to churn through a number of players to solve the issues but ended up finding some really good young players, e.g... A. Hicks, Coleman, T. Flowers, S. Mason, K. Martin, D. Andrews, B. King, J.Richards, T.Jackson, G. Grissom, J. , Cardona, M. Williams, L.Johnson, J.White, Dion Lewis, and Malcolm Brown. That a ton of young players getting opportunities and experience and almost all did well and some were great. Uncovering that much young talent in one season on a team that is already in great shape with its starting units sets them up in exceptional position entering the preseason and it condenses their needs, especially for the back half of the roster and special teams, and imo this is an important factor going into free agency and the draft because Belichick can focus on fixing specific needs instead of having to find the more versatile players who can help with this role. A starting receiver to either replace LaFell or push he and Martin down the depth chart and give them a deep threat. A high quality first down back e.g...M. Forte, L. Miller. An interior OL who is good enough to start and push Mason and Jackson, and possibly a guy like D. Allen TE (Indy). On defense the DL is set but they need help at LB and imo a good CB like L. Hall, J. Joseph, or S. Smith. And that is a wish list, they could field a team without making a move in free agency and still be a final for team next season

Fair enough I agree with your findings
The difference between us in this discussion is you are looking at long term and I am looking at short term last season only. I expected us to be in the SB. I know about the injuries but we lost games as I said because of weak coaching at times and that includes BB. I know you know what I am speaking to. We are on to next season.

I was really looking forward to a 4 hour erection on Super Bowl Sunday.

You can't honestly be blaming Gronkowski for missing a game, can you? I mean, we all figured his season to be over when we saw what happened, and he proved to be pretty tough by only missing one game. It was obviously something that he battled through up until Sunday afternoon, so from me he gets praise, not negative vibes.
Here's the thing about Gronk, he's on another level than these other guys. He could give 20% and still be very successful.
