Two Year Window to win 1 more Superbowl...

I think we'll make more noise in free agency than normal this year, but I doubt it's going to be what everyone considers "going all in".
We're going to have to (make more noise). Bad thing about FA,when contrasted against the draft, is that it's more $ for older players, and they can still bust.

I know everyone wants to live in fantasy land that Brady will play until he's 45. But at the end of 2017 Brady will be 40 years old and a free agent. And Jimmy will be a free agent as well looking for a contract.

Now of course if the O-line doesn't get better, Brady will be lucky to survive the first game of the next season, let alone another trip through the playoffs. But if ever there was a time to splurge, wouldn't now be the time to go all in during Free Agency? Not only are we down two picks but we have most of our guys locked up and cap flexibility to sign just about anybody. Our defense is as good as it gets and in every playoff game we've lost over the past 9 years the one thing they all have in common is that in all of them we've failed to reach 20 points...

I get the sense Belichick understands that given the recent firings and the general sense of urgency it implies... Shouldn't we look to improve our O-Line in the draft and finally sign that big name WR/RB for this final stretch run at 5?

Abandon the roster-building strategy of the past 15 years? It's kinda worked pretty well so far.

What positions/players do you have in mind?

Well, it depends on what they think they're going to get out of Stork, Mason, Jackson, and Lafell going forward. But, in general, I would say that guard is a screaming position that they have to address. If Lafell was still being hampered by injuries and they think he will be healthy going into 2016, we won't need two WR's and will just need one. If they don't think Lafell can give them anywhere close than what he gave them in 2014, then we need two by my count.

This may be a bit of a longshot, but I would consider trading Jimmy G this offseason. He has some value now, with two years left on his deal. Brady looks like he's not going anywhere for at least the next couple of years, so if JG plays, it will only be if TB gets hurt. And if TB goes down, the Patriots are going nowhere, no matter how well JG plays. Rather than keep JG around for two years and then watch him leave, I'd rather get a #2 for him if possible, and draft someone who can help in 2016 and 2017.

Might have to Bronco the salary cap to do that. Looks a tad tight, I think Miguel's projections gave us like five mill restructuring a few and cutting Mayo. I think with seasoning the o line looks pretty good and they're pretty good in most areas in general.

Gotta decide if LaFell is worth keeping. I wouldn't change anything because he was a big player in winning a SB but, maaaan Emmanul Sanders would have done great things here if he had come here instead of LaFell. He's perfect for this offense.
I don't remember---was he a realistic possibility (Sanders)?

I really want to hold on to JG, but I can once again see TB outlasting him. And while it has been proven guys it behind great ones for four years or so, Im afraid too much more than that and they might regress. Maybe there are some counterexamples I am overlooking (Steve Young, maybe? Though he already had starting experience in Tampa and USFL).

I would be inclined towards trading Garrapolo as well, but only if the deal is right for them.

There's no sign that Brady has slowed down he had one of his best seasons this year despite all those injuries. I'll start to worry when I see him look like Manning

IMO, the window is next year period with the three best defensive players and Solder signed through then. A first round pick for an offensive tackle or wide receiver would sure help. Nevermind, Kraft surrendered it on the altar of parity for his competitors. He must feel great helping his buddies like Goodell and his brother owners try to achieve success at the expense of his own team.

We go to the Super Bowl every other year, so the pats have a least one more shot under Brady.

Not at all but thank YOU foR mAking the ASSumption. Peyton had his greatest statistical year before falling off a cliff so waiting to see actual decline is a fools gamble.

Manning showed his decline the second half of 2014 and he should have hung them up then. People have been talking this sh.t since Matt Cassel, and they have always been dead wrong.

I would definitely trade Jimmy for the right price.

I'm crossing my fingers that Brady will want to win a super bowl so bad that he takes the league minimum to add an Oline and some weapons. I can dream right?

what recent firings + sense of urgency?

didn't we look to improve the o-line in the last draft?

no offense, but there's been these threads every year for probably the last 8 yrs.
Don't try and rationalize the stupid

Yawn. Wash, rinse, repeat. General sense of urgency...final stretch run...hilarious. Nice try.

He signed an offer sheet in '13 but PIT matched it. Then the next year was unrestricted and signed in DEN instead.

I'm trying to find a single thought in here that isn't completely inaccurate.

I think we have to temper our hopes with reality here.

We all hope that TB will be able to play at a high level for another four or five years...and, that's NOT an unreasonable thing for which to hope.

But the reality is that it is impossible to predict how quickly the skills of any QB will decline, even the GOAT.

So, yeah, I don't think it's unreasonable for the Patriots to put a two year window around the "reality" as they start their off-season planning and still "hope" that the ride will continue a couple of years beyond that.

In other words, I think the Pats should do everything in their power to give him the weapons and the support to make a strong run at Number Five in 2016 and 2017.
