How long does it take you to get past a big loss

I also want to add that I really believe that fans take the losses harder than the players. Yeah I am sure it bothers the players but for now long?

Half the team is already in the Bahamas for the next 6 months while we are slaving away at life. That's how I put losses in prospective.

The sting of none of the play off losses in the Brady era ever go away completely, especially the ones where they seemed to have a real chance (like this year). BUT, it definitely helps having finally gotten another one (SB) last year.

But at some small level, I'm still a tiny bit bothered by even some of the pre-Brady losses, esp. the ones where Pats were competitive. I even feel a tiny bit of the emptiness of not getting to the play offs--the 11-5 cassel year when we started to jell at the end, and the year after the first SB win, where we had some real weaknesses but pulled it together to pull off an incredible season finale, come from behind win aganst Miami at home, only to have the Jets beat GB to get the division crown, and we ended up not getting in at all. But we did win again the next year, which helped a lot. Still stinks to go out fighting and not get a chance to defend a title, though.

Never get over them completely, but by September I am completely immersed in the new season so I try not to think of the past unless we are defending champs ;)

I don't know--I think players are haunted by some the rest of their lives. Coaches even more so, from what I've read. But is harder on the fans in the sense that they root for the same team over many, many years, and most players play for more than one team, and really only have that strong rooting interest for a few years. We still lament losses going back decades. lol

Some people on the site have "dislike syndrome", makes them feel like a badass by clicking on the dislike button.

I really wanted to dislike this, just to be funny. ;)

This loss felt different to me than other losses (2007, 2010, 2011, 2012) in the sense that I didn't feel like we were the superior team that had gotten screwed by fate. We were clearly the worse team on Sunday, and the fact that we fought until the end made me more proud than anything; I think I was only really sad for about 10 minutes after the game ended. Of course I'm a little bummed that I won't get to see the Pats play meaningful football until September, but after Malcolm Butler's interception, everything that happens for the rest of Brady/Belichick's careers is just gravy.

I more or less agree, but I think NE-Carolina would have made for a much more interesting SB. Unlike some, I'm not convinced we would have lost--it would have been hard, but I think we would have had a punchers' chance. But it is hard to get far with no running game, and defending Newton would have been a tough task.

Damn that does suck. At least I was playing it by ear since I'll be in CA close enough to drive anyway. But just think if you had flown all the way out there, dropped like $10k and they got crushed...

Honesty...just to see a SB live...with my team in it..the Pats...would still be amazing. Something i need and will do in my life!

two days......I dont turn on talk radio or turn on the tv to watch sports reports. I hate to hear suspect Patriot fans moan and grown after a loss. True fans dont waver...and are never near the edge of a cliff...

I'm still having trouble coming to terms that that garbage team is in the SB.

Coming from someone who's been to a close loss (Super Bowl XLVI) and a close win (Super Bowl XLIX), it is one of the most stressful events I have ever attended. I was almost in tears in Indy, but seeing a bunch of ****y Seahawks fans around me immediately sit down in angst and disappointment after the interception instantly made up for all the previous losses. A friend of mine who went with us to Indy, ended up staying home for Arizona because he said that he wouldn't be able to stomach another loss like that. Don't fret man, you'll see them in the Super Bowl. I'm confident that they'll get one for the thumb before
Brady and Belichick retire. By the way, you have the best sig pic on this board. ;)

3 days after. I'm inconsolable as soon as the game is out of reach, miserable on day 1, disappointed on day 2 and somewhat reflective on day 3. From day 4 onward, I'm thinking about the SB largely in terms of my numbers in the $100 per square pool and hoping that the team that beat us gets their asses handed to them that day - unless it means I win some dough. Then, I'm the ultimate mercenary. The day after the SB until the first day of camp, I'm pumped for the new season.

Truth be told, I'm still not over the loss to the Raiders in 1976.
 Yowza, that's 40 years of angst! Still doesn't top Jets fans' 47 years, though ...

Jet fans are too stupid to feel anger

Watched the Pats-Panthers SB yesterday on NFL network...cheered me up quite a bit. I forgot AV missed that FG in the 2nd.

That game was crazy! It went from no scoring to a crazy amount of points at the end of the 1st half. Second half was back and forth too. What a tough, hard fought game by both teams. I'm upset bout 07 and 11, but I can't complain too much with 4 out of 6 because we could have easily lost this game, Rams, and the Seattle game. The Philly game was a one score game too. I can't imagine what it was like for Bills fans and losing 4 Super bowls in a row. I've also been watching old superbowl wins this week. It's crazy the amount of success this team has had over the last 16 years.

Two years ago in March, I had an interesting conversation over a few beers with Rich Gedman about this topic. I spend most of each March in Ft. Myers Beach and Rich is there with the Red Sox in Ft. Myers. We share a common friend who lives in FMB now originally from our hometown near Worcester and Rich is from Worcester. Anyway, old-timers like me will remember that Rich was the Red Sox catcher in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series (remember Mookie Wilson?) and Bob Stanley threw a wild pitch in that fateful inning which many thought should have been called a passed ball on Gedman. Anyway, he said that he had a far more difficult time getting over that loss not just due to that play, but because he was a local guy and the 1918/Curse of the Bambino BS was ingrained in him since childhood. He said the other players not from NE were upset, but were over it by Thanksgiving. Rich said he'll never be completely over it, as many fans won't.

Usually a week other than 2007 which took a year. Am over this, just stayed away from the radio for the week. I am looking forward to the SuperBowl at this point.
