NFL conducting comprehensive investigation of Manning

Don't care he's retiring, will put an end to endless stories of teams courting Manning, should he sign for a team.. (remember the endless reports of Favre) I'd hope any ban would kick in when he is with an actual team.

If Manning is found guilty, I just hope they don't make Kraft surrender another draft pick to appease Goodell and his fellow owners. It obvious that the Pats are the only team that receives punishment for bogus violations while tampering for the Jets is like a parking ticket.

You know he is going to end up retiring and missing out on any punishment they might give him.

Fine, so he retires... I want at least his reputation/legacy smeared in dog ****.

The idea that the kommissioner is going to investigate the "Chosen One" is laughable. Goodell will sit back and wait a couple of months and say they found nothing.

Manning retires and then they drop this "investigation."

Not a single mentioning of this story on either BSPN or NFL.com.... shocker...

What's kinda funny is...Colts fans "don't care" because Manning didn't (allegedly) do it while with the Colts. Broncos fans "don't care" because Manning isn't really a "Bronco at heart" if that makes sense. Didn't grow up rooting for him for 17 years so they don't have any emotional investment in him. Kinda like Revis to us

I had to check for myself. That's laughable. When the ESPN folks were discussing which stories to feature yesterday, did anyone bother to bring up the Manning-HGH story? Or is just understood at this point that they would be ignoring it?

I wasn't kidding...

Actually it makes perfect sense.

When Andy Pettitte was found to be using HGH, the accepted narrative in New York was:

a.) He only used it twice.

b.) He only used it to recover from an injury.

c.) His teammates support him.

Now, I don't know why factor C would matter at all, but it seems like it mattered A LOT in Andy's case. I suspect the same dynamic will be at work here.

This is starting to get deep. My sources say the league is now reviewing Manning's scouting reports at Draft Scout, Walter Football, and ESPN. Troy Vincent will be announcing that after long hours of investigation the league believes that Peyton Manning is > Tom Brady.

The NFL is in a bad spot because of MLB. If MLB finds it all true what does that say?
Yes that's the story here. Who's carrying the integrity torch now?

I think this such a colossal waste of time and energy. No one is denying that the HGH was delivered to his wife - in 2011. There's no proof Manning took it, and since it was five years ago there won't be any.

This is not like the A-Rod, Barry Bonds, etc. using performance enhancing drugs where they took all these steroids and other stuff while they were healthy that made them bigger, stronger, and more quick to recover from fatigue or muscle injuries during the season.

This whole thing went down during the 2011 season he was out after several surgeries on his neck. If any of you were on IR and weren't going to play for a full season, you'd look around for anything that would help you return to a job that pays $20M per year.

I'm not holding my breath for any quick results. It took years for Balco to unravel and this sleazy operation in Indianapolis is even lower down the ladder than Balco. I expect absolutely nothing to come from the League's "investigation."

It will take a "real" journalist (i.e., not someone from Sports Distorterated, HSPN or the NFL Shillwork), who sees a Pulitzer in the story, or a Federal Prosecutor (the drugs crossed state lines), who sees a career-making case in pursuing this, to break the matter wide open. That will take a long time.

I'd estimate that it will be 18--36 months before Peyton is boxed into a corner and has to hold the obligatory, tearful, "I let everyone down" press conference.

Odd post. On one hand you suggest he didn't do it and on The other excuse him doing it. Win win for Manning.

I honestly have no, problem with athletes doing HGH or steroids to recover from injury, what I have a problem with is the ridiculous double standards that apply to Manning with both the league and media. If this was another player, especially Brady, they would be going all out to hang him, whereas with Manning they go all out to bury the story. Its ridiculous and they need to be called out for their hypocritical bullish.t.

but its the narrative, they have to want to smear his reputation in order to do it and they dont.
