Scouting Report: Leonte Carroo, WR

Really hope he winds up in NE, plays a whole bigger than his listed size with some real reliable hands and a frame of 100% muscle

Carroo is a monster, excellent receiver. His draft stock will go down because of his incident this year, but there is really no evidence he did anything from what I've read. I would take a shot on him in a heartbeat.

I am the minority, but I just don't see the necessary athleticism. Not much in straight speed or elusiveness. I don't see much wiggle in him either.

He is great at coming down with it, but I don't think he works outside the numbers for us. For an inside receiver, I think I would want higher agility.

Just my opinion.

I agree. I need to rewatch him because I, like you, just wasn't blown away by Carroo. I prefer Tyler Boyd, Sterling Shepherd and Rashard Higgins over Carroo currently.

I have Boyd and Shpherd higher as well (haven't watched Higgins) but I think those guys go around the Patriots 2nd round pick and before 3rd. Carroo in the 3rd might be better value.

This is definitely my concern with him, and, and when I say take a shot at him I mean in round 4 and on. I don't think teams are going to be scared off by the assault charge as much as it would take for him to turn into a real value pick.

The more I think on it, Carroo reminds me of Ravens-era Anquan Boldin. I'm not so sure how much Belichick values the guys who are effective at catching it when not open, because the Pats' system values getting open over going up and over someone. Alas, he'll be better off somewhere else more than likely.

I love Carroo's RB built he cannot only take a hit but he can also dish one out. Poor mans Odell Beckham minus the Elite Speed. I am warming up to Mr. Carroo, your write-up is spot on midwestpatsfan.

I posted this in another thread but do you guys think of his speed? He seems to have a defender right behind him On his catches. Maybe it's just poor qb play and I'm looking to far into it.

Thanks for the kind words. What you said is right on. He would be a great fit in LaFells #2 spot. Physical receiver with great hands and route running. Gets open despite lack of elite speed.

Caroo in the 3rd might be OK value, but there should be WRs available at the end of the 3rd who will provide better value.

I have a huge group of WR's that are grading out at the end of 3rd/top of 4th round. I think that is the sweet spot for getting a QB this year if the team decides to go that route. It is just going to be what the team is looking for in their prospect.

Of late, the Pats have looked at a few late round WRs (Cody Core/Devin Fuller). I guess that that's where they are looking at talking a WR now. No rookie is going to see much playing time this year (if any) so developing a high round rookie will be tough.
