Be Honest, How Many Of You Wanted To Kick A Field Goal Instead Of Going For It?

  • I wanted to kick the field goal. Take the points and trust my defense to get a stop.

  • I didn't wanna take the field goal. I felt like we needed a TD right there if we were gonna win

I wanted to kick the first time for several reasons.
  • If they kick and then get a TD, the TD is a win.
  • If they don't kick and immediately get the TD, they need a 2-point conversion just to tie.
  • If Denver gets an intervening FG, then the Pats turn out to have need a FG for sure after all.

Like others have said, I'm a take the points guy, but I can understand why they wanted to go for it.

I just thought that the D was stuffing Manning and the run game, and I trusted TB12 would make some plays

I still say go for it! I was there and supported the call. 4th and fcking 1. Have to come up with a better play though. That play was sh!t!

we would have missed it anyways. Too much weird **** happens in Denver. Must be the thin air.

Ghost misses extra point
Brady fails at QB sneak on 3 and 1
Broncos trying their best to teabag Brady

Yeah we would have missed the field goal.

I understand the thought process behind it. I just completely disagree. That 2 point conversion was in the back of my mind long before we even got to that point. I was terrified that it might come down to that.

Yes, I thought we should've taken the 3 even before they went for it. We were moving the ball on them well at that point and their offense wasn't doing ****. We let them off the hook.

Hindsight is 20/20. Obviously in retrospect the FG was the smart play. At the time, I didn't mind going for it in those situations. There was no guarantee our offense was going to get down there again with the way the OL was playing.

As I was pacing back and forth,I told my daughter, "I don't like this..I don't like this at all, get some points and let our defense get the ball back with a TO or 3 and out"

I trusted the offense to get one yard on one play, more so than make a stop and get 80 yards with the 6 minutes left. In hindsight it backfired, but decisions are made situationally and not in hindsight. There's no wrong answer here despite what many will tell you.

Actually the play wasn't that bad, if they played man to man they would have had Edelman alone on the left and they were, Harris either thought they were in zone or blew his assignment and there he was, lucky fock. I wanted them to kick the FG but then again if I was a coach I'd be on the conservative side, I like that BB isn't.

On the first one with 5+ min left, It all happened very fast. They went from 3rd and 5 to 4th and 1. I thought go for it, but BB should have resisted that thought. Getting a yard-plus on the 15 isn't easy. The momentum was shifting, our D was stifling them and somehow we were moving it down the field. Plus we were 8 down not 7.

If we'd kicked the first one, I think he would have kicked the 2nd one with a 4th and 6 from the 20 and 2:20 left. The first one was the mistake.

My wife is my witness. I was screaming at BB through the TV, but he didn't hear me

At the time I was all for going for the TD as I thought it might be our last chance. But Bill probably should have taken the points there. He is supposed to have the more logical outlook on the situation as opposed to me, the fan.

He knew our defense had solved its problems and the Broncos offense couldn't do a thing. He should have made played it smart..gotten the FG around what was it? 5 mins to go? Then let the defense get Brady the ball back.

4th and 1 is tempting though. If it were say...4th and 5/4th and 10, Bill may well have taken the FG,

you need a TD at end of game u usally have 4 shots at getting it...you need a 2 pt conversion? you only have one shot at it, and you dont want to have to have your game depend on it

you take the FG halfway through the 4th and make it a 5 point game without even a second thought

and that's w/o considering that the likelyhood our D wouldn't even give up a 1st down was damn high

weird mistake by BB, but lets not forget what doomed us was allowing them a FG right before halftime b/c we botched that up too

Perfectly said.

Down 8, you need to score twice to win the game. Period. No matter what, you're going to have to score two times. It's just simple math!

Plus, as you alluded to, kicking the field goal gives your defense more margin for error. As you alluded to, the Broncos could have put up three points on one of the ensuing drives, and the Patriots still would've been in the game.

It's funny, the only reason it was 4th and 1 in the first place was because of a ridiculous after-the-catch effort by Amendola. I really thought he was going to pick it up. Anyway, had he just been tackled normally, it's almost a certainty that the Pats would've kicked the field goal (because then it would've been closed to 4th and 3 or 4th and 4).

4th and 1 in our red zone, and it's the first time we actually drove down there all game. Take that *****.

There are very few times ill say going for it is wrong and I fully supported the pats going for it
