The 2016 NFL Mock Draft Thread

Not much with changes in my draft but a few guys have moved up and so i will re-draft

2nd - Sterling Shepard - WR - We saw what Edelman means to this team. Him/Brady/Gronk make our offense scary. In my opinion Shepard is the closest thing to Edelman in this draft and there is no Gronk type player in this draft (forget in our range). I know we don't like BB to pick WRs but this guy just has Patriot written all over him. He is not a true Z guy but he is much closer to Edelman than Amendola is. We need a viable replacement/back up and with him and Edelman our offense will rise to a new level. My #1 Binkie.

Other thoughts - The down side of this is likely no decent OT that you want falls to 3. Well that is something we need to solve in FA. We should be able to find a suitable 3rd OT with the money we will have.

3rd - Bryce Williams - TE - A backup TE is an obvious need and while there is no true backup for Gronk it doesn't mean we can't look to upgrade the current #2 spot. The snaps the TEs had against KC was pitifully low. While some like Nick Vannett better I go with the guy that has production and is more proven. Also his blocking is not bad. Not great but not bad particularly for TEs coming out today..

3rdcomp - Kyle Fackrell - LB - There was another LB I wanted but it looks like we need to take him in the 2nd or not at all as he keeps rising. In that case give me Kyler Fackrell. He reminds me a bit of a poor man's Jamie Collins. He can rush the passer, play decently in space but is not the sum of his parts yet. However when you can return an int 99 yards for a TD while being 250 lbs I would say you have upside no matter the level at which you do it.

Those are my current first 3 picks.

Going to checkout Shepard he sounds very interesting. Thanks for my 2016 starting point..

In terms of tackle I really doubt that we will go the FA route for that. My guess is that it is more likely that we will try to get another TE via FA as we don't look for elite but simply above average production and that should be cheaper at TE than at OT. Moreover, we will need one more long term tackle soon anyway with Vollmer getting older and Solder not getting a long term extension.

I will also checkout Fackrell but LB is a position that might be addressed via FA as well. Mingo seems like a logical FA target and Mayo might be amendable to come back on a prove it kinda deal. I doubt that there will be many teams after him.

It's going to be tough to move me off:

2nd - Charles Tapper, DL, Oklahoma
3rd - Braxton Miller, WR, Ohio State
3rd - Jonathan Williams, RB, Arkansas
4th Kevin Peterson, CB, Oklahoma State

Obviously will require an OT and maybe a LG in FA. Maybe keep Waddle and see what he can do as swing OT. I'd also resign Hicks. Hicks, Branch, Easley and Brown is an outstanding DL. I'd also be fine if Sterling Shepherd is the pick.

We absolutely MUST draft the best available LG/LT or WR at 61, not another DLman.
Just started my early research into this year's draft class , any OLmen in the range of our first pick that pop out at you at this point ?

Peterson intrigues me greatly due to his plus athleticism. My only concerns are size and ball-tracking technique, but the latter can be cleaned with good coaching IMO.

I latched on to him because of Ryan's and Butler's tackling. Peterson reminds me of Butler playing the run.

Le'Raven Clark?

I think he's a swing tackle initially rather than a guard but I really like his length and athleticism. Needs work though coming out of an Air Raid system.

How do you feel about Eric Striker ?

I know you won't like it but I seriously doubt that we will draft any Guards except maybe with the odd 6/7 round pick. We don't need anymore young players at that positions, what we need are 1-2 average veterans to support our young nucleus of interior linemen.

I'm really just beginning to more closely follow the draft process, but I will be looking for updates on
Spencer Drango, Jerald Hawkins, LaRaven Clark, and Stanford's Josh Garrett & Kyle Murphy, among
others, as possibilities at 61 or 93.

I'm intrigued because he's so explosive, but I have no idea where to play him. At 228, he's probably too light even for a linebacker for BB. Day three pick only and situational player only for the Pats.

I was pretty high on Telvin Smith (now in Jax) he's turning out pretty good...however I do agree with your points. I don't even know if he's the same caliber of player , but being undersized yet incredibly explosive are things that jumped out at me for both players.

Perhaps a conversion to Safety? Of course this early in the game I am just brain storming.

I've come across all those players as well... Christian Westerman is also a guy I've been intrigued by.

One thing is that we don't really know what BB intended when he drafted Matthew Wells last year. In light of that, it's certainly possible that they go for Striker. I think he'd make a terrific special teamer so that would be a plus. Maybe a blitzing linebacker/pass rush specialist with key special teams responsibilities?

Ahhh Mr. Wells!! I forgot about him! That's good thinking Mr. Manx.

you really think drake is going to go that early?

What are peoples opion on Drake? I keep going back and forth on him myself, the big play ability is definitely there, relatively low miles and has that swiss army knife feel where he can be used in a variety of ways. Unfortunately pass blocking and running hard in-between the tackles arent strengths.
