For all who think NOT kicking the FG was good coaching....

I agree with you that they should've gone for 3, but seriously, it's time to move on. There isn't one poster on here that hasn't felt this way over some play or decision during the BB era and it won't be the last time.

We've also gotten to the Superbowl on some lucky breaks and questionable calls before and haven't. It may be the last time Brady gets that close or we may find ourselves in the SB next year. I'm just trying to enjoy the ride while it lasts because it will be over before you know it.

Just go and cheer for a team with one of those garbage coaches who does everything by the book and rarely considers things situationally. I am sure it will make you happier to sit at home during January while BB & co. just carry on to go to the playoffs every year.

Wow dude, you're obsessed. You thought the Price is Right horn was so clever it couldn't go in your other thread about this?

And if they kicked the FG and Brady doesn't complete 2 4th downs to Gronk on the last drive, you're posting the same thing saying "for all who think kicking the FG was good coaching..."

What a thought provoking, well-reasoned and articulate post. Thanks for sharing all of your insightful thoughts on the matter.

Too many Would've's Could'ves and Should'ves........
I "Would've" been cool with EVERYONE Playing/Healthy going into POs.
Anyway......We're on to 2016.

The Pats are health and a couple of moves at most away from dominating the AFC again like they did through the first 10 weeks. I'm fine with them not subjecting Brady to that DL in the Super Bowl. They'd get shellacked.

My guess is that they complain about the failed 4th an 6 attempt meaning we would be 2 points behind on the last drive. Thinking that everything else would happen the same way.

No, actually the offensive line (by the way, never has there been a more fitting adjective paired with the noun "line") took care of that long before that situation ever arose.

No one guarantees anything. I can however guarantee you one thing: Had we kicked the FG and closed the gap to 5 points, the Broncos would have come back with a totally different approach on offense. They would have been less conservative. It is ludicrous to think that all else would remain equal after a FG.

At least it wasn't 4th and 13 in the first half, or whatever the details were. That one was really incomprehensible.

I thought they should have kicked the FG the first time. My reasons included:
  • Without kicking it they need to succeed on two do-or-die plays -- first that 4th down, and then the conversion. Plus, of course, that plan required finishing a TD drive in the red zone.
  • If they kick the FG, then the next TD wins instead of tying.
  • If Denver kicks a late FG itself, then the Patriots wind up needing both an FG and a TD anyway.

This is the problem when you judge decisions 100% based on the results. I was about 50-50 on it, I think I would have kicked it because I wasn't real confident about getting it and getting the 2 points. But, I understand the ideology behind it because you still need a touchdown either way, had it been a 7 point deficit I definitively go for it.

Three possibilities:
  • Denver doesn't score any more. Then your comment is irrelevant.
  • Denver scores a field goal. Then having kicked the FG is valuable.
  • Denver scores a TD. Then no decision is likely to have turned out well.

4th option: Gostkowski pulls a 1-in-a-million and misses the FG, Anyway you look at it, none it mattered.

Here is an even worse example, 5th option: The kick is blocked for a returned TD.

Hindsight is 20/20, and people will always b1tch if the selected play did not work. Had they elected to go for a FG and Gost missed or the kick blocked and returned for a TD, everyone would be calling for BB's head for not going for it on 4th.... Easy to be Einstein after the fact watching the game on TV.

The bottom line is that we could have been fcked either way and so none of this matters. What DOES matter is the fact that this team needs a LEGIT offensive line ASAP. Even had we won, we have no business being in the SB with that joke of an OL. Carolina's D-line would have killed that cardboard line just as badly.
