It's crazy how eerie the similarities were between the Broncos game and the Jets game.

Setup: Defense is harrassed all day with Brady having little time to throw.
First TD of the game can be credited to the defense (at Jets the TD literally was scored by the D, the same would have been true in Denver if refs let it play out but either way the O had a very short field)

Second TD was scored on the last possible drive on the game in which two fourth down conversions were needed to keep hope alive.

With there being similarities, offense struggling and defense playing relatively well, I have two questions......

1.) Do you think Belichick would have elected to kick or receive in OT?

2.) Would you want the Pats to kick or receive in that situation?

The poll has four options to cover both questions. Please select two of the options.

My response:

I think Belichick would have elected to receive (and that's what I would want). I'm not saying he learned his lesson from the last time. No, I was ok with his decision the last time, I just think the circumstances changed enough to receive. Even though the offense was harrassed all day, they did move the ball on the last three drives.

Our offense moved the ball well in the 4th quarter. Coming off of all the momentum of tying the game, we would have received.

This is a pathetic exercise in a denial-based wish fulfillment fantasy, but, hey, I'll play along.

Before Brady threw pick #3, I said to my kid that if the Pats tie this game, the Broncos will have a huge letdown, after leading since the first quarter. I definitely would have received, hoped that Brady could stay alive long enough to get them to the 35, given Gostkowski a chance to redeem himself and then relied on the D to do what it did most of the day: stop the Broncos.

But, as I said, it's kind of pathetic that I'm even thinking that way...

Belichick is in our heads.

I first thought they'd kick, because Denver's offense had done nothing in the second half - just 79 yards of offense. Meanwhile, the Pats, on their last 3 drives, and moved the ball well. So after thinking about it some more, I'd have received, but I could see the argument either way.

It's kinda sad how well our defense played in the second half and the fact that it was wasted. They really stepped up. If it came down to the Broncos needing a TD drive or even a field goal to win I have confidence they would have stonewalled them. Manning was meh because he had no pressure (as in nerves, not DL play) the entire game. Put him in a do or die situation and I'm positive we would have seen the ducks flying and the Manning face once again.

I think Bill kicks but I take the ball no doubt. Denver's punter was having a fantastic game. Field position probably wouldn't have been that good. Take the ball and win the game.

...

The season is over. Obviously this didn't happen but this is not too far fetched of a hypothetical to not at least ponder what may have happened (ESPECIALLY since the last time a similar situation arose it was extremely controversial).

Yeah, that's why I played along. A little crazy to do so...but, what the heck!

I'd probably kick.

Would have received the ball but I'm not sure what Belichick would have done.

While kicking off to the Jets was probably a mistake, due to a battered defense I couldn't necessarily say the same for this game.

Peyton and the Broncos hadn't done ****e in the second half on offense. Stopping them would have been probable.

I'm not picking a scenario where my team could lose before brady even has a chance to touch the ball. If I choose to receive and we still lose I can look myself in the mirror and know I made the right call and Id make it again. If I choose to kick and they march down and score a TD, I won't feel very good. That's just me tho I guess.

Bill would have given them the ball because just like in New York 'it was the right thing to do'

I mean seriously how the hell do you take the ball out of Brady's hands? That's tantamount to treason.

Did you see Brady breathing hard after the 2-point try? I'd never seen him huffing like that on the football field. My guess is that everyone on the field, but especially the defense, was also breathing hard.

I voted kick but now that I think of it, if you think Denver's offense couldn't have done **** against NE's defense as it hadn't done in the 2nd half, then maybe take the ball. If you don't get a score, Denver gets the ball and the defense can still do its thing.

Flip side of that is, you get the ball, go 3 and out or even take a sack and are punting from the 10 yard line, there's a good chance Denver gets it only needing to go 10-15 yards for a game-winning field goal
