Hope you come by the draft forum unless, it is much calmer and mature over there.
Ohhh I'm a long time reader here..long long time. Just never really made an account and posted , From this point until September my activity is mostly in the draft forum. I will most definitely be up in the mix over there over the next few months.

I agree. I just don't get why its so hard for people to believe that Goog hadn't really gained BBs trust and therefore was not given the keys and had to follow orders . There's no saying that goog if he did a good job would over time pick up more responsibility and have more of an influence.

I fully believe what you are saying.. the main thing I wonder is if he was simply the wrong person to coach up the pre-existing "Scar guys" and at the same time didn't yet have enough pull with Bill to get more of "his guys" drafted.

Bingo...we have bingo.

Jackson very much fits the Mold for "Googs guys" but Stork and Mason and Andrews (UDFA) are pretty much inline with the "uber athletic" guys (Mason especially)
Yeah, agree. Jackson is a big dude but he's strong, Mason is kinda small but is an athletic beast... Stork is somewhere in between and Andrews is undersized but scrappy (a Scar hallmark)

Yeah and even then Scar is in tight with FSUs oline coach and spent a lot of time with him discussing his players in that draft. Scars fingerprints are all over this oline to this day.

If thats how it went down then this entire cluster**** is ultimately on Belichick.

You can't half-ass a transition especially if you were aware of Dante's retirement plans for a longer time already (see Scarnecchia, longtime Patriots coach, retiring).

Daboll must have been a pretty bad understudy when he assisted Scar in 2013 otherwise he would have been the logical choice to achieve that "smooth transition" BB was talking about. And if you decide to go for an external solution -- that might have a different philosophy -- you need to commit to that person or find someone else who is closer in terms of philosophy to Scar.

This whole situation looks uncharacteristically messy.

At this point, they've put so much play time into Mason & Jackson that they should plan to start them again next year and just make sure they are coached better. They can retain Kline as a reserve "swing guard" of sorts, and Stork can play guard in a pinch too... Wonder if they try to get Andrews involved at guard next year like they did with Wendell, even if only for emergency purposes.

Solder, Vollmer, Waddle, Cannon - if they're retained and stay mostly healthy, that's probably a good enough group of tackles. I am assuming Waddle is average based on the few snaps we saw, though.

You have opened my eyes, I've never really looked at it that way but you are 100000% spot on there.

I said it in the draft forum but I wouldn't expect a guard to be drafted this year. Instead I assume they will bring in 1-2 decent, average veteran guards (think Wendell, Connolly level) for TC as fallback in case Jackson and Mason don't develop fast enough.

EDIT:

Forgot to say.. you can expect 1-2 OT to be taken pretty early in the draft this year. Vollmer is getting to a certain age where his next injury might be cause for retirement and Solder's contract doesn't extend very far. Sounds like the time to groom a new tackle.

If Daboll had been that bad then they wouldn't have brought in an OL coach whose only connection to the team is that he worked for Daboll in 2011.

I'm a fan of both Jackson and Mason, both showed some promise but lacked consistency (possibly tied into coaching). An interesting factoid here is Mason was a RG/C @ Georgia ..Jackson was a straight RG. It was rumored early on Mason would try out for the LG position (which in time came to be true) but I wonder if at some point Both Jackon and Mason are pitted against eachother for the RG position, Stork moves to LG full-time and Andrews at Center? Interesting days ahead friends ...can't wait for the offseason to get underway.

But then why let him work for a whole year with Scar, absorb everything and then move him off to coordinate TEs ? Even if we assume that Godsey left unexpected to the Texans you throw away your entire attempt to create a smooth transition that was a full year in the works.

Yep I remember most draft pundits had Mason projected to be a center though he never played the position. He spent most of his time as LG this year but ended up as the RG out of necessity, but he actually didn't look too bad.

I can see the thinking... Move Stork to LG and he becomes for all intents and purposes "new Mankins", and the better of Mason or Jackson is the RG, the worse being the reserve. They did work Kline out at center some this year so he could be a reserve behind Andrews if need be in that scenario. It's a possibility!

Yes , exactly. Obviously I'm just brain storming. I'm a little excited to see how it all plays out.

The Stout who I pumped up over this inadequate coach has been retained by the Eaglets. I wish we had him. Philadelphia Eagles: Jeff Stoutland

He's assisted by Eugene Chung. Remember him?

No reason why Josh and Cannon regressed so much when they were more than adequate during the tenure of Scar. Hiring this now-fired coach was a noteworthy coaching miscue by BB. The guys aren't as bad as they showed Sunday. I didn't support it at the time.

I'm happy BB is ensuring coaches are not exempt from being terminated. It sends a positive message.

Belichick is 63.

I'm striking out finding a link to this..... But I recall an interview with Dante after he retired. He basically said he still loves football, would love to help the team out in some capacity, but he emotionally cannot take the long hours of the football season. He said it's gotten longer under Belichick. He couldn't physically do it anymore, and he wanted to spend more time with his wife.

In the context of that interview, what Dante is doing right now is perfect for what he wants. Why would he come back (unless his wife is sick of having him around all day....;))?

It seems clear to me that what they need is 1) someone who believes in Dante's philosophy since Belichick clearly does, 2) someone that can actually teach/motivate/communicate all of that effectively. Let's hope they find that someone this time.

Having JORDAN DEVEY start his first year remember that? What a c-----ter f--- that was. That was enough for me. Then having an never-ending parade of guys in different positions.

I never thought I'd miss Scar more than I did that game in Denver.

Remember hearing that guys weren't high on this fired coach?
