Learn to Lose with Some Dignity

Could the coaches and players have done a few things differently in hindsight? Sure.

But the only only thing I am really pissed about is the draft picks we lost for no reason.

**** Goodell.

I'm not throwing Gostkowski under the bus...BUT...it's a Championship Game, big guy. You can't miss an Extra Point. I don't want anybody else kicking for the Pats and I love your regular season stats and no one is throwing you under a speeding bus for missing your first attempt in 254 tries, but no one would have "blamed" #4 for missing the kicks that tied the snow bowl ("greatest kick under pressure in the history of the NFL") or that won SB XXXVI and XXXVIII with time expiring or a handful of seconds left on the clock...but he made them...he made them...you're still upright on the sidewalk and the bus has gone by and plenty of other people are more to blame for the loss, but you can't miss an XP in a Championship game when Vinatieri has set that standard...

Vinatieri missed a 31 yarder in SB 38 (shorter than Gost's XP) and a 36 yarder in SB 41. Unlike Adam, Gost didn't get the chance to make up for his mistake.

He missed a 2nd one in SB 38 as well - it was blocked because the trajectory was too low. Ghost came back and hit 2 field goals, one from 46 yards. He also hit a game-winning (from behind) 54 yard field goal against the Giants in NJ this year. Let's not pile on and call Adam a saint and Ghost a fraud. It's like when people say now, Charlie Weis is the greatest OC of all time and Josh McDaniels isn't clutch like him. Charlie put up some stinkers too.

yes, i had done my homework and found that kick, which is why I worded my statement the way I did...Gostkowski has never had a chance to show that he could do what #4 did. But that doesn't take away from or diminish the fact that Adam did do what he did. And that's why he'll be in Canton, even if Goskowski eclipses every one of his Regular Season records.

People react in different ways, which I guess is yet another opportunity to divide the group up into good and bad where obviously you are in the good group and assign some negative terms like spoiled and call them bandwagon fans.

Gostkowski wouldn't have missed a game-winner had he been given the chance...IMO

For me it just plain sucked losing to Denver in Denver again. And the only decision I really have beef with is not taking the 3 with 6 minutes to go.

I still love the team and BB. Nothing will ever change that, We are a very lucky fan base to have our team in it at the end year afer year. I got so much **** from all the Phins fans at work on Monday, but I don't let it get to me. They will continue to suck next year and the Pats will be back in the playoffs.

It wont always be this way, so hopefully anyone who is upset will take a step back and enjoy what we have while it's still here.

Others might be saying that Gostkowski is a "fraud," but I'm not (and, BTW, he apparently doesn't like to be called "Ghost," so I don't know why people out here insist on doing it). Let me be clear: there is no K in the NFL today that I'd rather have doing the job for the Pats than Gostkowski and I hope he's kicking for us until he's 45...or older. He was one of the pieces in the mess that resulted in the Pats defeat on Sunday, but not the biggest piece...that honor belongs to the O-Line. Only the D is exempt from blame.

I'm just saying that what Vinatieri did in the Snow Bowl and SB's XXXVI and XXXVIII was for the ages and will put him in Canton. And, he has the stats. Goskowksi's stats alone, even when they top Adam's, won't get him there.

Losing anywhere to any team sucks. But as I've said before, the "blow" is softened by the fact that, at least the Patriots lost outright. Yea, an extra point could have sent it to OT but Denver played outstanding defensive football all game long. I was preparing myself to be infuriated judging by how the first couple of calls and the no-call for NE went in the first two drives, but it was pretty good officiating after that.

If the Patriots lose, I'm just okay that they lose because the other team was better. Life goes on

A lot of other teams were on the couch watching the Pats play in the AFCCG. They had a lot of issues that prevented from being 100%. This team went pretty damn far under those conditions . I was obviously a little pissed at the end of the fame. Not that anyone in particular, just pissed that the season was over. But I am fine now. But I am fine now. I hold my head high knowing our team is one of the best that ever played

How about the opposing fans learn to win with some class first? I thick we should start there. The Broncos fans and to a lesser extent the Chefs fans were very poor winners. Maybe a "good game" from the fans when you shake their hands and tell them "good game" and "good luck" would be nice.

We should be counting our blessings that this team with that putrid O-Line didn't sneak into the SB. Carolina would have decapitated Brady and dropped a 50-burger in front of an audience of 120+ Million.

Yeah it sucks to lose to the Forehead, but that was one heck of a fight Brady & co put up in the final 5 minutes...that's earned him respect even from the other team fans. Meanwhile, Forehead will get embarrassed yet again on worldwide tv.

So yeah, there's plenty of reasons to take this loss with dignity.

The O line was the problem throughout the game and most of the season. The missed XP was peripheral.

The two interceptions were bad decisions but IMO a result of poor O line protection. Both were thrown while Brady was under pressure. Actually you could say every pass was thrown under pressure.

The decision to go for it on 4th down was made with the O line's performance in mind.

The only reason the Pats had a chance to tie this game at the end was because of the Defense, Brady's freaking gritty performance, Gronkzilla, and a few guys trying to make something happen.

I admit that I was on the wrong side of the HFA discussion a few weeks ago because I did not understand the difference in value of the communication between the QB and the O line at home as opposed to silent counts on the road.

Ghost's kick sucked but it is not the reason they lost the game. IMO

This just goes out to a few people on here. It sucked that the Patriots lost today and I was saddened as much as the rest of you. But let's lose with a little dignity and not go throwing the coach, kicker, and quarterback under the bus.

We all knew going to Denver was going to be tough. And we knew their defense is fantastic and found a way to drag an average to below average offense to 12-4.

A lot of us were asleep on Denver and Vegas should have had this game as EVEN considering the Broncos were at home and the Patriots have had a history of losing games in Denver.

It was an exciting game that went down to the final few plays. That is the mark of a pretty successful season considering all the adversity. As the offseason approaches, let's fix some of the holes on the roster. But let's not throw away all the goodwill from last year by whining or being ungrateful.

You must not be from the Boston area. This is just how it is. It is in the nature of the fans. It would be like asking Philly fans not to fight or Cowboys fans who think like Charlie Brown and that this time the ball won;t be pulled away at the last second by Lucy. My family still complains about calls the 80s Celtics didn't get and mention Bill Buckner's name in a bar and there is an instant, overwhelming groan.
It is actually endearing about sports fans in Boston, even though it can be annoying.

forget dignity i need a couple more Al Jizzera threads to laugh at

Came oh so close to pulling off a miracle finish on a day where nothing went right for the offense. The team conceded nothing and fought like hell to the final whistle. There's no shame in that.

One thing hasn't changed - the internet is still full of people who know more about football than Bill Belichick.
