Cut Lafell
Cut Scott Chandler
Cut Aaron Dobson
Cut Leonard Johnson
Extend Branch 1 year 3/7

ERFA Rufus Johnson

Cap Space: $16,919,754

2017 most important FA: Vollmer + Matt Slater + Ninkovich = cheap quality guys! + Butler
I am not a fan of extending Amendola and Branch until they're 34-35 years old.

Collins is worth far more than Hightower. He was a second team all pro and he is arguably the 2nd or 3rd best LB in the entire NFL.

When do guys like Jones ever get traded? The NFL doesn't do trades

Branch was a beast he will be probably cheaper than that. He wont be our start he will rotate and play probably 40 -45% of the snaps with hicks, brown and easly. That will be cheap and nasty. Amendola you may have a point but show me any 3m dolars WR that can play at his level. If the money is right ok.

Chandler was nursing a knee injury and we did not know his assignment.. it is not as though DE's just rush the passer, as there are other assignments as well.... difficult to judge his play as we do not know the game plan...

Jones playing 46 out of 68 snaps is an indicator of his health..

Always go back to this board in its infancy when #93 was playing and there were posts about how poorly he played as he did not show up in the box score, only to have BB ascend to the podium and tell the press about how Seymour had his best game ever..

I agre with you 100%, he was not 100% health, but at least my point is :if you can lock butler+ ryan and get a 1st and a 4th + hightower and colins or jones hightower and collins, what would you choose?

CJ will demand an absurd amount of money, which could be used to secure two young players and get another promising youngster in the draft or two. I know that DE are hard to find, but CB is easy?

CJ money is probably a little bit less than Butler, Ryan and a first will get TOGETHER!

When is the last time any team got a 1st and a 4th for an emerging player??

Did not say not to resign him, implied that players are often overvalued in this make believe world..

Sometimes the COMP picks are greater than the trade value..

Are you serious? Trent Richardson, Percy Harvin ( not 2 picks, 3 ... )

CJ is an ´´emerging player``, What you tell me about those 2?

What's with the Vollmer talk? Pro Bowl-level RT making $6.2M seems fine to me. Dead cap hit of $2M means you have to replace him with $4.2M in cap savings. I don't think you'll find anyone at his level at that price.

I've been projecting for a while that Chandler Jones will not be resigned. The pay scale at the DE position is too high, we have good depth at the position, and their are too many other stud players that need to be signed. Signing Jones to a market deal would be terrible for the cap.

Jones = Percy Harvin??

Percy Harvin was traded to the Jets for a 4th or 6th round draft pick..

Probably better off with a Comp draft pick..

Trent Richardson look at who was involved, Jim Irsay enough said..

Dude dont change subject. Percy Harvin was traded for a 1st + 7th and a 5th !! He was 24 years old and had MAJOR issues. Jones is 25 SB champ, pro bowl player... So what we get for CJ a 3rd? Or a 5th ?

This type of trade does not happen as often because the teams prefer to keep their own talents. When changes like this happen a first round pick is the minimum to ask.

Look Jimmy Graham trade and others: 28 years + bad contract + bad fit for the team and seattle trade their best OL Unger + 1st round draft pick ...

So name 3 DE in this league that are under 25 years better than CJ.

Hightower and Collins are more important

that said, I would prefer a guy on his contract year and then get a 3rd round comp for him

I would like to keep them both I'm just not sure I want to give them additional years on their deals. 1 more year of Branch and 2 more of Amendola is ideal in my mind.

I like Jones a lot but if he wants Mario Williams type money he is gone.

Jones is signed for 2016 and he is not getting Mario Williams money. If he isn't extended, we can compete with others, and take our 3rd rounder as compensation if we fail to sign him.

IMHO, this is much better than losing his services for 2016 by trading him.

1) Cutting Johnson saves nothing. He will compete in camp, or at worst be a camp body. We have Roberts and Johnson coming to camp as backups to our 3 starters (Coleman at nickel). There is no need to cut Johnson.
2) Cannon will not be cut until there is a replacement. In your scenario that is Fleming. That hasn't worked out. Perhaps, Waddle will be extended before he becomes an RFA.
3) Your numbers are almost all low (e.g. Amendola) , but that doesn't matter at all. The key is to decide who to extend, who to keep and who to cut.
4) Hicks will get more from others. Chris Jones and Easley are coming back. We also have Kitchen. Of course our starters are Brown and Branch. We might extend RFA Siliga who figures to be much cheaper than Hicks.
5) I see no reason to trade Jones. He is worth the $7.5M to the patriots for 2016. If he goes in 2017, we'll get a 3rd in compensation.

the only comparable trade would be Jared Allen to Minnesota. There has not been a top sack leader traded before his rookie deal was up since.

Harvin traded to Jets in 2014 for conditional draft pick in 2015...either a 4th or 6th....
