Patriots 'part ways' with OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo

I give Goog little to no credit for anything. It seemed like he just threw anything out there and saw what stuck. No one improved at any point. Last year he thought Devey and Cannon were good guards and that is all you really need to know. The run game was historically bad and just imagine the amount of sacks if Brady wasnt our qb.

Im still bitter about the loss but I dont think it is playing that much of a role in my excitement over this firing. I honestly dont think it can get worse, especially the run game.

Next is special teams. 2014 was one of the best years I have ever seen by any team. All of those blocked kicks and then to see the drop to this year's version sucked. Our punts even seemed unusually short at times.

I know there are techniques and such but the bottom line is it doesn't take much brains to be an offensive lineman

It's not like there's a whole lot of plays these guys have to remember or routes to run. All they have to do is block the guy in front of them. Either they're good at it or they are not.

Players like cannon are not and no amount of coaching will ever change that.

The fact that you don't understand that there is more to being an Offensive lineman than "blocking the guy in front of them" shows you shouldn't be commenting on whether or not an O-lineman is doing his job and performing well.

Cannon is fine for short stretches. But he's not an every day starter. He's shown that he can spot start and be excellent.. But he doesn't have the game in and game out consistency..

But still not available. Skins would have to release him from his contract and don't think they will do that at all.

The only time a team has to grant permission for a interview is if the coach is going for a Head Coach position.

So BB resigns and we hire him as HC. Then he resigns. Rehire BB. hire Callahan as OL coach. Winning.

I think BillB will focus on OL in the draft (no 6th/7th rounders, but 2nd/3rd rounders) and possibly in the free agency....

BillB must have gotten an earful from TomB after the game.....

Bill Belichick just drafted Mason and Jackson for the O-line. You think he's going to give up on them after 1 season? Not happening. And they liked what they saw in Waddle. He could be the Cannon replacement people want..

Solder, Vollmer, Cannon, Stork, Andrews, Mason, Jackson, Kline is what the Pats have for next year. I'm sure they will bring in a vet or two for the minimum and probably some UDFAs, but it's unlikely they put any high draft capital in something other than OT. And there aren't a ton of OTs in this draft..

The League put the Kabosh on that sort of thing after the whole Parcells/Belichick debacle with the Jets. Do you really want the Patriots to lose ANOTHER 1st round pick?

Anyone know why they didnt sub stork for andrews yesterday?

Stork was the starter and played most of the snaps. Andrews only saw a few..

It wouldn't be surprising if the the next axe to fall lands on Special Teams coach Joe Judge, but I think he'll be given another shot. Like Goog, he's another guy who is filling some big coaching shoes and his unit underperformed this season.

I wish him the best but I'm not sorry to see him go. It's a rarity to see BB fire one of his coaches so I think this move speaks volumes.
I'm confident the problem will be/is being /has been addressed

Judge came up through the ranks here. He'll be fine.

That's surprising, I wonder if they have someone in mind. Perhaps it will be an internal hire

Another example of the OL acting like bull fighters, Cannon and Mason blow assignments and lets loose Jackson.

Denver defense is good but this is basically zero challenge.

Cannon obviously hasn't been playing well, and there were times when Fleming seemed even worse. I don't know if Cannon's toe injury is to blame at all or not, but either way you look at it, one/both of these guys need to be upgraded.

I said last year that I wouldn't be terribly surprised if we ended up addressing both OT and IOL in the draft, and while that didn't happen, I have to think that they'll be looking at some OTs this spring.

Per Reiss, the "few" is "zero". Same five guys played all the way through. Fleming got two snaps at TE. Andrews got one snap at FB.

What the heck is Mason doing? Letting Jackson completely free while he turns to block air. Too bad Wendell was injured and Connolly retired.

Not saying it wouldve made a difference but they couldve tried. But, they really were able to get some movement in the 4th Q on offense, just no pts to show for it and build confidence of it.Those missed 4th down no doubt made it psychologically worse. Still amazing mental strength for brady to make that throw on pt with the game on the line.

Solder is a lot better than "Average at best". He's just as good as Matt Light was. Saying otherwise is re-writing history.

I would certainly agree that Nate Solder is better than "average at best," and that his injury trickled down throughout the entire line, which is common with franchise LTs.

We could debate just how much "better than average" he is, and my personal opinion is that he's good, but not great--but that's a conversation for another day. At any rate, Solder is certainly good enough to get us by with another couple of years, although I have a strong feeling that we'll be taking an OT one way or another. That player will likely improve upon one of Cannon/Fleming, and could even be groomed to replace Vollmer or Solder at some point down the line.
