Patriots 'part ways' with OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo

Guuugs by all accounts appeared to be "Too Nice a Guy". He appeared to stay loyal to guys that should have been beaten out by the more deserving player. Case in point the fact that after coming back from injury, Guugs stayed loyal to Stork when it was clear as day that Andrews was the better player. There was also not a lot of OLine shuffling done during the start and progression of the struggles. That has to come from the OLine Coach who seemed to be a little too nice and a little to loyal.
I don't have any crazy insider info, but I've heard enough from a source who I find reliable that Googs didn't really have a say in who sits, starts, play, is cut, traded or whatever.

You want a source, go watch do your job, I found his take pretty strong on the trade of Mankins. He was saying the right things but I got the impression he was not happy with the groceries.

I can confirm , He had no say in that trade...infact he had no IDEA that trade was coming. He was also not happy that Scar had such an influence in Mason and Jackson picks.

I bet the OL coach has plenty of say in who starts or sits etc. I doubt Bill can watch everything. He has final say, sure, but I'd imagine if he trusts his coach them it's almost a rubber stamp.

I don't believe that for a minute. He's the guy running these guys through daily drills and film work. I am CERTAIN That BB took Guugs for his word on who should play and who shouldn't. Handing that Center job back over to Stork after Andrews proved he was the better player is a recommendation from the OLine coach. Not replacing Cannon with the better player Waddle is another mistake that had to have come from over-Loyalty of the OLine coach.

I can only say what I heard from a person I dont think would lie. He deff could voice his opinion but ultimately he was not the final say. Who was I dunno, but its something he often was bummed about.

Hey man, I get it. I prob wouldn't believe me too... But I'm just saying what I know brother.

After finally speaking, the coach made headlines by criticizing guard Vlad Ducasse, saying the decision to play the guard was not his.

“It’s a directive from high above me,” DeGuglielmo said. “You have to ask somebody higher than me.”
I got the feeling he was this type of person. He is very out spoken. The above is a quote from him and shortly after Rex of all people fired the guy. If you can't work with Rex, you may struggle mightily with BB.
I will find the quote from the Do Your Job video I am referring to.

wasn't googs fault, the players didn't " do their job " in fact, must of them sucked. mason only allowed one pressure everyone else was bad. kline/cannon fodder and vollmer were disasters.

I think it is both. Some of the OL players are 2nd/3rd tier at best, playing as 1st-team. Really need to get 1 or 2 better players. We have not had a pro-bowl caliber lineman since Mankins/Light.

These past 2 years? zero.

This is a bit disconcerting, and perhaps there is something behind the scenes we are not privy to. I can not remember the last time the Patriots fired a coach during the Belichick era.
Dean Pees, for all intents and purposes, was fired. BB simply gave him the opportunity to resign out of respect for Pees and his career. But, make no mistake, he was greased.

Again I never read any of what you just posted , but the person who I worked with who was related to him said the same exact things. He had absolutely NO say into who played, started , was traded, cut, benched.

Rex fired him or let him hit the pavement.

How he landed with NE always made me wonder why?

DeGuglielmo was named the New York Jets' offensive line coach on January 24, 2012.[5] He was fired on February 5, 2013, and spent the 2013 football season as a football analyst for Clear Channel Radio's Sports Talk First Edition, on 560 AM WVOC in Columbia, SC.[6] On January 22, 2014, it was announced that the New England Patriots had chosen DeGuglielmo as the new offensive line coach to replace Dante Scarnecchia, who retired after 30 years with the Patriots. His work as a Patriot began on February 1, 2014.

I believe you. Jives with what I saw in do your job. We'll probably never get the full story, the bad o-line play was a symptoms of a bigger problem.

I imagine there is more to this than meets the eye. Given the injury problems on the OL it's hard for me to see how he could have done significantly better with who was left standing from week to week. In Bill I trust.

Ultimately , from the picture that was painted through his cousins words (who admitted that they could not and would not push Dave for any extra info out of respect , which I totally understood) .. Goog was bummed he didn't have a bigger say in managing his line.

I think BillB will focus on OL in the draft (no 6th/7th rounders, but 2nd/3rd rounders) and possibly in the free agency....

BillB must have gotten an earful from TomB after the game.....

Well we are all assuming he got fired... I wouldn't be shocked if he left under his own power. If he wasn't given control or say of who stays or goes or plays or sits but is going to take the heat , maybe he left. As I said , he just wasn't the right guy for the job....long term.

I wonder if there is decent OL help in free agency that wouldn't break the bank.
