The Offense, Not the Defense, Let The Patriots Down Sunday

Ian Logue

The Patriots can walk away from Sunday's game knowing that they'll take with them a pretty solid foundation on the defensive side of the football heading into 2016.

Despite having everyone healthy on offense
I believe we will learn that the big three were not healthy. For example Gronkowski needed
an injection in his knee before the Chiefs game. What can we do? Tip our hats to Denver since
it was there pass rush and excellent coverage that did us in.

There is a disconnect on the offensive line. I really think it comes down to coaching, either Guges or JMD. There is something schematically wrong with their approach. When you rely on one person(TB) as heavily as they have, you should expect to lose. There is allot missing on this team in regards to complimentary football, it's disappointing.

Maybe so but Gronk looked good.
O-line was horrible and Brady did not make the throws that were there to be made. Some were so low, some were too high, some were too long....etc.
Brady was not sharp from the 1st series in the game. Long before he took the physical pounding that he did the throws were not being made. Poor game all the way around from the coaches on down.
How can TV analyst sitting in Boston notice that Denver's D front had their timing down perfectly on the Patriots silent count due to the predictable movement of the center and yet the Patriots don't do anything about it?
That's coaching and it's been really lacking this year from top to bottom.

Personally I think Josh McDaniels is one of the most overrated coaches in the NFL. A game like yesterday where a defense is dominating exposes McDaniels because he has no answers and makes no attempt to find one. How about trying some screen passes there Josh?? How about quick cut in route from a big guy like LaFell?? How about a jump ball throw to 6'8" Chandler?? This team was 2 - 15 on 3rd downs?? How about trying some different things Josh???
EMBARRASSING!!!
The QB is also a part of the problem because he is very binky-centric. We saw that on the attempted 2 pt play. Based on who was covered and who was open Julien Edelman was the last guy he should have been throwing to....yet he did.
I see McDaniels name come up for HC jobs and I'm like why would anyone think this guy can lead their team?? I don't and I wouldn't hire him.

They knew:

"It's a tough front, I mean, they're good players. They were teeing off on the cadence, we were trying to keep changing it up." - Brady

Check this out.

Brady was the leading rusher with 4.3 ypc and 18 yards.
NE was 2 - 15 on 3rd down for 13%.
Brady had a 48% completion rate. Usually he is around 66%. 2 out of 3 vs 1 out of 2 doesn't seem like much but it matters.
NE was in the redzone 4 times. Denver only 2.

Had nothing to do with cadence. They were watching the movement of the center.

That's why this loss is so frustrating. That game was there for them. The offense played like total crap and yet that game was there to be won.
All I can say to the Denver Broncos is "Good Luck" in the Super Bowl....'cause you're going to need a ton of it just to stay in that game.

Well, duh!

Defense: A or A+ (with oak leaf clusters and all that kind of stuff)

Offense: C-
Line: F
QB: B (three picks and a lot of passes in the dirt would normally get an F, but Brady was hit 23 times)
Running Game: Incomplete (not enough to grade )
Receiving: B+ (A to Gronk, Amendola and Edelman, but a D to White, who should have had at least one of a couple of big passes, one that might have gone for a TD)

Special Teams: C
K: D (A couple of FG's, but a missed XP and an onsides kick that went five yards into the arms of a Bronco and didn't even give us a chance for an Aaron Rodgers miracle play at the end)
Punts: B (one big return by Amendola, wiped out a moment later by a Penalty on the O Line) and at least one punt that traveled no more than 40 yards

I think fan bases find it easy to turn on the OC. More often than not it comes down to second guessing certain plays or decisions. I don't think that is what you are saying here at all and I agree with you 100%. McD doesn't have an approach that I am overly fond of, he doesn't have the ability to adapt. He has the ultimate toy in TB and I think that distracts him from looking at the function of the offense as a whole.
I mean at no point do teams respect our run game at all. TB is almost 40, we should be trying to migrate in a more balanced approach. Look at Den, they won because they understood the limitations of their QB. They focused on those limitations in their approach and ultimately were successful.
