Offseason talk - would you trade Chandler Jones?

Try to lock him up now at a cap friendly deal. If he balks, trade him.

I'd try to sign him long-term, but if he ends up demanding what's probably going to be the market rate for him, then let him play out his deal, leave in FA, and take the compensatory pick. He's debatably worth the money, but given that the Pats will be paying Collins, Hightower, and potentially Butler in the same offseason, I can't see us being able to afford him.

Yeah. His forced fumble last week was a play any JAG could have made.

Yeah he makes a play every now and then. But how about bringing constant pressure and taking over a game? Never going to happen because he just disappears. He's not worth the money he's going to be asking.

I came into the thread to give the old "try to lock him up at a fair price, but if that doesn't appear to be possible then I'd consider trading him" comment, but after reading your thoughts, I think I'd probably just wait it out and get the comp pick.

I highly doubt that Chandler Jones would warrant a 1st round pick, meaning that we'd get a 2nd (possibly a second PLUS late round, and/or player). If you assume that we'll get a 3rd/4th round comp pick, it may end up paying off just to keep him for one last year while guys like Flowers, Grissom, and Sheard continue to develop in our system.

If they do decide to trade him this offseason, it would save us about 8m dollars, and we could surely use the additional draft pick due to not having the first rounder. I'll be good with whatever decision Belichick makes.

based on life your body just don't bonce back as easy from throwing the ball 35 plus times a game and getting hit 10 at 40 years old. look i hope he plays until his 50 but its not going to happen
Fix this goddamn oline, and he'll be just fine.

He'll get paid like an elite double-digit sack DE, but I don't think that he can be relied on to perform at that level every season - A trade might reap some good value here. Belichick has overpaid for guys in the past so it wouldn't be surprising if he gets re-signed.

I just logged to ask. I am from Brazil, and the broadcast here didnt mention him ONCE, DID HE PLAYED? This ends the discussion Jones, Collins and Hightower right?

I would certainly listen to offers and consider them if they are good, but I wouldn't actively shop him. No matter how inconsistent he is, he is a solid starting DE. Trade him and you open up a hole right there. Ninkovich is turning 32 soon and has slowed down this season. Trade Jones and even with Sheard you still need to get a starting calibre DE. It would be pretty pointless to trade Jones and then shell out money (or assets in a trade) for another DE.

@MikeReiss
On defensive side, Chandler Jones played 46 of 68 snaps in AFC title game. Quiet game for him, with just one tackle.

I would keep Amendola if he restructured again.

Vollmer is good, he played out of position most of the season. Bring him back.

Cannon and LaFell I agree, and Mayo might want to consider calling it a career - he probably has a career in broadcast or coaching waiting for him.

If Mayo leaves on his own do we still have dead money on him?

I was advocating trading him before the playoffs in the draft forum. Somebody will look at his sack totals and give more than a first. I think you can get a first and third and the depth of Sheard, Nink, Flowers and Grissom leaves us solid. I know he was injured but so were a lot of others and he was invisible in the playoffs. 9 playoff games and 2 sacks and 13 tackles.

I want to envision Easley more like Aaron Donald...
So far he doesn't seem very durable, so i don't count on him. but maybe that will change, Willy Mac was hurt a lot in the beginning of his career.

I like Mayo, and would want to keep him But hes ended up on IR for the last three years. So i can seem them letting him walk.

I agree. Its a question of the team thinking they can get some value from him next year. I have no idea. As we all know he just can't stay on the field.

No, DEs are incredibly hard to find and especially one as talented as Jones

They should trade him for assets. One first and a 3rd will do it. Pats need young guys and cap space. With the first we select a DE. Yeah Jones is a ´´proven`` player but we can keep everybody - Collins, Hightower, Butler ... He is the best choice to go. Ninko is not the same but he is still a damm good player, sheard is a beast and can come for half of Jones numbers + a first draft pick and we are set for the two next seasons. And we save a ton of cap space! With the 2nd round we go BPA between WR or TE. In the 3rd round we go TE/WR, RB, ILB. All other rounds we go BPA.
