Bye Bye Brandon Lafell

Cut Cannon, S. Chandler, Mayo, not sure about Ryan.

Why Ryan? That doesn't make any sense
I feel for what he does Roberts can do the same. I really don't rate him. He got a lot of praises this season for what were drops. He is what he is, don't see a true number 2. If the money he wants is reasonable, then I will not bat an eye.
We need cap room for Collins, Butler, High, Hicks, Jones maybe. Extend Sheard!

While I am down on JoJo, it is important this game does not define who goes and stays with the notable exception of Marcus Cannon. And even with Cannon, I'd like to hear if he was injured and doing his level best just to play (IMHO that is the only explanation for an otherwise performance that was not NFL caliber much less a playoff team. Sure, he wasn't the only one but he is paid at a level that is expected to perform at an NFL level).

Sorry for my repetition on this -- When a team can get to your QB with minimal rushers yet high effectiveness, I can't fault receivers or backs or QB for not being productive. As we all saw, Brady was off on some passes and missing some open targets. But I ask someone to point to any QB who can be under that kind of duress, with 7 and 8 men in coverage, who can produce at a high level and guide the team to 30 or more. I don't care if it was Joe Montana, Brady, Manning, Starr and every other HOF QB combined as one genetically modified prototype uber QB. Your offense is not going anywhere with that sad, frustrating, awful OL play.

Except for the OL this game does not specifically make me down on anyone except coaches. I watched the game again (skipping parts -- thanks DVR), I now think our D should have stonewalled Denver for the whole damn game. Because our prep appeared to be poor/wrong it allowed Denver's some early scores. There was confusion and running around on D before the snap, then there were multiple guys wide open for Denver. The kind of open that it isn't someone being simply beat, it is someone having been practiced to see something else. To me it appeared BB and MP didn't understand what was going on. Like they were watching another game, on the wrong page in the book.
Once we adjusted Denver was stymied except for that one aberration of a long run. I re-watched that second half (I punished myself) with a "this Denver offense sucks". Denver's run game was totally ineffective, quite a lot of Manning's passes were not only ill advised but were INT-able, and most of their completions were hard fought just barely completed. Bottom line: Denver should not have scored 20. Denver displayed an anemic O that appeared to be playing about as good a they can play against the Patriot D. IMHO if not for Patriot's bad coaching (gameplan & prep & in game) this game would have ended up a 7 to 6 or 10 to 9 slug fest. We still may not have won as Denver's D showed it is top tier. Just too bad our D didn't get the prep then adjustments it needed in time to keep Denver's anemic O out of the end zone (Denver never should have seen the end zone - certainly not twice).

For the SB IMHO Denver's in trouble. They better get the game of their season out of their D and hope AZ/Car screw up the gameplan too to allow Denever some quick points. Once AZ/Car see Denver's anemic O take hold, it will be on Denver's D to win this game ((Again after re-watching it I'm shocked they got 20 on us)).

That's fine but he's s solid DB making next to nothing

We don't know if he was healthy. He played pretty well last year. Same with Chandler. Martin caught zilch. White is no Vereen. Jackson gave nothing but the OL was destroyed. Gronk was the only playmaker available, amazing performance there.

Who is Jackson?

Tre was inactive today.

Lafell is what he is, a role player
He pissed me mightily off by saying he was happy to have missed training camp considering all the drops he had his season. I assumed he was a hard worker and wanted to get better from last year. Noooo, he is content with his success and rested on his laurels.

You are right, emotions are a greater part of my post tonight. I will probably flip flop after a few hours.
I hear ya...

It was a great year. Losing in the playoffs is a tough pill to swallow. They'll be back.

Pats need a new split end, and while I think they need a new kicker I'll probably flip flop on that in a couple hours, but missing a PAT is pretty much unforgivable.

Lafell can stay if he takes a pay cut, but in my opinion I think we should replace him with a guy like Kearse, Benjamin, or Marvin Jones next year. I actually don't think WR is the biggest need next year, though. It wasn't what failed us.
I think I read somewhere that Alshon Jeffrey is also a free agent.

Regardless, I'd love to see a tall, deep threat free agent brought in.

The going rate for a 2014 LaFell kind of receiver is at least double what 2016 LaFell is due. I'd be giving him a good long chance to get healthy and see if that was the problem, because I can't see them spending the $8 million a year for a clear upgrade.

In particular, I've seen the roughly $11 million franchise tag mentioned as a possibility for Alshon Jeffrey and even Marvin Jones. If the Pats are priced out of that market, then they're going to have to go with the riskier options like a late second or third round draft pick or a mid-level free agent. If you know you're taking a risk at that position, then it seems like a waste to automatically disregard the guy who has actually produced in the system.

Yup, they shouldn't assume LaFell is going to be not-****, but it's worth holding out hope. I dunno that the alternative is better.

Steven Jackson. Our "running back." perhaps you didn't notice.

IMHO Jackson was never given a chance. Sure, the OL sucked and every back was mostly getting hit at or behind the line, so the running game was not going to be potent. But Jackson was simply never given a chance.
Pretty sure here is the line of Jackson's opportunities:
First handoff: 1 yard.
Second handoff: 5 yards
Third handoff: Solid 1 yard TD run.
Fourth handoff: 2 yards.

That's the total of the chances JM and BB gave Jackson. Out of his four chances he made 2 good plays.

IMHO, with the OL's pass protection faltering badly coupled with Denver frequently focusing in on and effectively stopping Gronk and Jules on numerous occasions, it was a fail on the brain trust to not adjust outward from the norm until the final minutes. It wasn't F'n working! Try Jackson or White with some added opps (IMHO White was grossly misused). Personally I would have liked to have sees some attempts to hand off to Jackson and see him plow into the unsuspecting Broncos, to see if we could have just beaten them physically. Probably not worked out but what we were doing was certainly and clearly not working out.
I am sure I'm probably way over simplifying it, however, I'm left shocked that an offense that critically and clearly couldn't give the QB enough time to throw against a good D that was also teeing off on Brady's constant targeting of Gronk and Jules, that they didn't think outside the box until the last few minutes. Coaching fail on this one IMHO...

Bye Lafell, not a single target today? Bye Jones TE. Bye Jackson RB. Bye Blount. Bye Mayo LB. Redo Dola WR. BYE CANNON EAZY PASS. Leonard Johnson CB. Bye Siliga.

Keep Coleman CB. Keel KING ST. Keep Devlin FB. The rest is bye bye.
