And I am one of them. Thank god I don't actually play for the Pats.

I have no doubt we are much more anxious then they are. Part of anxiety is the feeling you have no control over a situation, which we don't. Think about all the big games you played in high school or college. Our teams were never nervous because we knew if we performed we would win most of the time, and we were in control of the outcome.

The Pats are simply the better team today. I believe they know it deep down. If they do what they do at the level they are accustomed to, they will win.

That said I'm crazy nervous today!

Outstanding post with just a minor correction:
If we lose this game or the next our haters will surely get on our case, and I guess I can understand why. But really they are whistlingpissing in the wind, since they have so little and we have so much.
It's funny how all the rule changes that were meant to favor PM/offense really worked their way into the Patriots hands. Hardly surprising given who our coach is.

One thought I had, is that we as a fan base, have it so easy. We have the luxury of hand-wringing and second guessing. But, we all know, during the whole week, that no team will be better prepared than BB's NEP.

I mean some people get upset at the smallest problem or anything less than perfection, but even the losses will typically help make the team better and stronger and that's because TB and BB are so focused on the moment that we can enjoy our weekly rituals prior to game day.

I haven't watched NFLN*'s or ESPN*'s football coverage (pretty much) all year. That's not going to change. I've managed to start writing again, jamming out to new tunes, and catching up on Netflix. Anything to avoid the tedium that is these pregame Pats-bash-a-thons.

Three more hours to go. Need some more observations from you, Ken.

When you look past all the Manning/Brady hype, the 'thin air' in Mile High you are left with the basic match-ups.

Patriots O vs Denver D

Spread em out and rely on our short area quickness and the genius of Tom Brady to rack up the yardage and move us down the field. Not underestimating the Donks here but they bring the type of pressure that Brady prefers (off the edge) but not a great deal up the middle. Brady is well versed now in just about everything that D co-ords will throw at him - the rush 4 and drop 7, the clogging of the middle of the field - when Brady see's it coming he generally prevails.

Patriots D vs Denver O

The Donks offence is a tepid unit that likes to keep running the ball while their D keeps them in the game a team with the talent level and discipline of the Patriots should be able to handle this unit with relative ease. Denver is blessed with some nice talent at WR but DT has never been a 'big game' player and Sanders looks hesitant recently after being hung out to dry by a series of Manning floating rainbows. I expect the D to play fairly conseravtive early - even expect some 3rd and long conversions given up while they compute, analyze and build up a gameplan to shut Denver down. As far as Manning goes, I don't feel like i'm whistling past the graveyard to suggest this guy is 'done' with a captial D - with Leprechauns and pots of gold lurking at the end of every pass a lot of throws are ripe for the picking - especially those wobbly screen passes to the sideline. The Patriots (as is standard for any team) must tackle well and deliver clean legal hits to those receivers brave enough to go across the middle. Honestly, i'd be disappointed if the Patriots concede any more than 20 points defensively - Denver is not a team that is going to convert many of its redzone attempts with such a gimpy QB.

Belichick vs Kubiak

In terms of in-game adjustments these two coaches couldn't be further apart - Kubiak is a rigid thinker who won't deviate from the gameplan unless in an absolute emergency while Belichick (backed by Patricia and McD) are 3 of the clearest thinkers under extreme big game pressure in the league. If this game goes south then Kubiak does not have the chops to turn it around - the same is absolutely untrue of Belichick - Seattle goalline play anyone?

I know this board is typically infested with the negative nancies who are typically paralyzed with fear at having to face anyone other than the Jaguars - but when you look at the real football match-ups this should, and WILL, be a convincing Patriots win.

broncos will play 6 DBs the whole time, daring us to run. can steven Jackson have a big day?

No, they won't. That would take away some of their strength, which is LB and D-line. They'll likely be in the nickle, daring the Pats to run..

Tre Jackson and Waddle are the two that are OUT as of now.
Not good. So the Pats will have all their "healthy" O-line dressed.. I'll be honest. I'm surprised they haven't shut Tre Jackson down for the season and brought up a guy off the practice squad..

40 seconds to go... 35, 30, 25 seconds to go and we're defending half a yard and Seattle has 3 chances to do it. Tom Brady is going to be 3-3 in the Super Bowl, we're going to lose a third straight Super Bowl on a miracle catch. If someone had asked me right before Russell threw the pass if i would have traded an interception and a win for a 0-16 season, i would have gladly done so. I was shell shocked. 2006,2008,20012,2015, heartbreak after heartbreak...will we ever win again with Brady?

And then, Malcolm Butler!!!

Just remember that feeling before the interception, the dread, the despair, disbelief...and now, we're two games away from defending the Super Bowl.

Every single playoff run after SB 42, i was just hoping for something to erase that memory. And now that we have it, i have both the complete confidence in this team and the peace of mind that no matter what happens tonight, these years have been truly remarkable and i'm extremely grateful to be a fan of this team.

Go Pats!

AWESOME POST!!!!!

Exactly

While I would hate a loss, if it happens I will grieve by watching a video of the Superbowl. My biggest stress will be trying to figure out which one.

We have so many to choose from!

You play guitar?

That is what I do to calm my nerves

BTW- I woke up this morning and realized I forgot one item from last night. -

I recently read that the Jets GM won the pro football writers association Executive of the Year. My immediate reaction, was "why not, he did a good job rebuilding a very bad roster", certainly as good as anyone." Later PFT gave out its awards and of course there were no Patriots players, executive, or coaches mentions. Now it it isn't surprising. It is easy to take for granted the work that is done by the Pats profootball operations team, especially when there isn't an officially designated GM to account for.

But when you think about all the work that is done to build this team and maintain it so consistently through THREE iterations it is astounding. I guess it is so astounding it gets ignored, since you can't give it to them every year.

Think about this. The Pats WON a superbowl and then proceeded to dismantle their entire CB group and lost their top 4 guys. All of whom were starters at one point, and 2 were all pros, yet somehow they managed to put together a secondary that was every bit as good as last year's even after losing their #2 guy to the IR early in the season. And yet they are one game away from going back.

They only have ONE offensive lineman that is playing the same position as he did in last season's superbowl, and HE missed more than half the year. And yet they are one game away from going back.

They LED the league in plays going on IR, starter games lost to injuries, and have 16 players listed as Questionable on the injury report going into today's game, yet are almost universally favored.

I look on in amazement when I hear the mediots marvel at the fact that the Pats are going to their TENTH AFCCG in the last 15 years. Where were they when the the number was 9 or 8 or 7. All those would be immortal an accomplishment for most teams

Somewhere there should be a clue that what the Pats are doing every year to build their roster is pretty good. The last 5 years (which is about the length of a generation in NFL term) they have been drafting between 28th and 32nd. That is a huge disadvantage not being able to at least have a shot at a elite prospect. Since 2oo1 the Pats have had only one draft pick in the top 10, and that was Mayo at 10. They have had only ONE draft pick from the teens (Solder at 17) in the last 15 YEARS. All there other draft picks they have been picking in the 20's and 30's.....and that is in EVERY round. AMAZING!

Football is supposed to be cyclical - Teams go on runs and then they slip for a year or two, even the so called elite franchises. Look at the Ravens who couldn't even get to the playoffs after their superbowl win. Look at the Steelers, Niners, Saints, etc Only the Niners of the Rice/Montana/Young years come even close and they operated under a completely different set of competitive circumstances.

OK I'm rambling again. But the bottom line is I hope we as fans appreciate what an amazing organization we have building our team each year. Kudo's to Nick Caserio and all his staff and thank you Bill Bellichick for creating this football utopia, and allowing us to come along for the ride.

If we lose this game or the next our haters will surely get on our case, and I guess I can understand why. But really they are whistling in the wind, since they have so little and we have so much. And the real scary part is, that with 18 IR guys coming back to compete with the 53 that is likely to take us to the Superbowl, NEXT year's team should be stronger, deeper, and more experienced than this one.

Does Roger Goodell really think the loss of our first round pick is going to end his annual nightmare. All it really does is make my April less interesting and make a very frustrated man because of the injustice of it all.

Where and when was Wilfork selected?

I agree with all of this except that Kubiak can't change the game plan and come back. We were up 21-7 in the 4th last time around.

TRE Jackson (guard) is out, not Steven Jackson. I haven't seen anything about Amendola being out...
Amendola is active.
