Criticism of NFL’s handling of #DeflateGate becomes mainstream

The NFL only cares about PR. If Goodell were to decide to return the picks, it would not be because the Patriots are innocent, but to stop the bad publicity. He also knows if the Patriots win this week, there will be two weeks of articles like the one in the NY Times.

Public perception aint changing at this point. Thanks for the post, but it's ultimately meaningless right now. I don't doubt that articles like this will stand the test of time, however. They'll help Brady after he's retired and his career is being discussed.

I want the N.F.L and especially Godell to publicly apologize to the Patriots. I want them to admit it was a sting from the beginning placing blame on the Colts and Ravens organisations for starting this, I want Kensil to admit culpability along with Vincent et all. I want our draft picks back. Only then I will be satisfied.
I also want to win millions !! Since neither is happening, these kind of articles are meaningless . Brady's reputation is ruined and we lost picks for no reason. If I didn't love this team and football in general. I would have walked away a long time ago !!

Did PFT disable comments? That's the first PFT article I've ever seen that had zero comments this long after it was posted.

Most people are still generally misinformed. Friends and family look at me strange a year later when I suggest Nature is the culprit. Some of them are even intelligent, but grossly ignorant of the facts and numbers.

Even if it means nothing, this type of article both pleases and angers me. I am angry to think of the lost picks, yet I am pleased the NFL passes as stupid idiots for their "efforts". Exponent is an embarassment. The fact that PV = nRT uses the S.I. doesn't help in America, but a real scientific firm should be able to handle conversions.

Not everyone drank the koolaid.. thank god.

Wonder if the author knew about the refs leaving the footballs and gauge at the hotel last weekend???

Even if you could get most sports fans to agree the NFL* got this wrong, they'd still be ok with the Patriots getting punished.

Because the damage has been done and they'l always think BB & Co. have done something wrong. It's like the Field of Dreams movie, except it's more like the "Field of Nightmares". Because the majority just don't think sustained success is possible, they have to believe that something nefarious is going on.

i.e. Goodell and the Refs are in Krafts pocket despite the evidence clearly in front of them (then again, everyone thinks the refs are out to get them because it seems more calls go against you than for you...confirmation bias).

BUT, for the Patriots it's even worse because the Media (i.e. BIG business) uses the formula and the masses are just too plain stupid to think for themselves when it makes them feel better (and putting other people down to lift yourself up, really shouldn't make one feel better as your situation is unchanged).

EDIT: Apologies for getting on my high horse, please don't take it out on the horse or the PETA people will come for you.

Let us not forget to credit Kraft for his part in this ongoing fiasco. His private and public support of the POS commissioner since 2007 which culminated in his pathetic capitulation speech to his brother owners is proof to the world of the validity of his special relationship with and the validity of the claims by Goodell.

Almost 8am here and still zero comments made.

I believe only us Pats fans read these stories anyway.

No, when Florio writes a post, he approves of the comments himself, he is a control freak with his website and I don't blame him. He reads and removes all racist, nasty comments. In short, he is like North Korea in censoring the comments. He posted it almost close to 1am, he is probably waking up now and approving comments, they will show over 100 comments shortly.

Pretty brief article but blatant in its meaning... Florio is outright saying the Patriots didn't do anything, it was all science, and the NFL are liars. With the Pats getting closer to a second consecutive title, more interest is perking up. How are they one game away from the Super Bowl if they needed to deflate balls all those years to win? Oh, because they never did.

If the Pats win tomorrow, it'll be two more weeks of this, potentially. I also think these articles put the dagger in any crooked "summary of PSI" report the NFL was rumored to be releasing soon. Nobody even remotely unbiased will buy it.

I'm sorry, Mr. Florio, but you are half-assing this. You know more and could have written about the vast difference between footballs 90 seconds out of sight last year and footballs over 2 hours out of sight last Saturday afternoon.

I appreciate what you are doing and what you have done over the last several months, but you have a layup here and are not taking it.

I'm starting to hope they release some numbers. They'll look like fools no matter how they try to spin it.

As long as Goodell is being "guided" by certain jealous owners with an agenda, regardless of the facts, this will continue to simmer. NFL has gone too far at this point to suddenly pull a Roseanne-Roseanne - a- Dana to say "Never Mind" now!

Someone has to release the PSI results from the season and this will really become viral.

You may not see this anytime soon. What is most surprising, given the proclivity of "leaks" that occurred out of the NFL during the height of Deflategate to paint the Pats and Brady guilty, is the lack of any leaks to put the Pats and Brady in a better light. This speaks volumes about the NFL and its intentions regarding this matter. You know there is some sort of agreement among those involved in measuring the footballs to keep their mouths shut under penalty of death just about!
