Edelman getting a lot of recognition

Many people wanted him gone not because of bad performances but because he was always injured for years early in his career. You can't fault them for that a lot of them just don't truly support our players. They probably wanted tom cut after four games last year too, but there is no excuse for that.

TRUE.

Maybe there is hope for Aaron Dropsem too.

In his younger days, he was a QB... He had to wait a few years for this gem!

They said he wouldn't be a good reciever but, I can't recall anybody calling for him to be cut. At worst he was an excellent punt returner.
With all due respect, then your recall just isn't very accurate, as a number of people have pointed out.

I think the Patriots are something like 22 - 1 in games that Edelman and Gronk have played in together

That would bode well for the Patriots even if Peyton were still playing on HGH ;)-

There's no question there was a time when it seemed that the question of Edelman and Brady getting on the same page with timing, etc. seemed very much in doubt

I find it tough to fault those who suggested moving on and trying someone else as we've been down the road of busts at WR or just guys who didn't mesh with Brady, even if talented

I don't think I ever advocated for his being cut - in part because he seemed to have Special Teams value at the very least, and I think I was always in his corner as I like converted QBs - for both their overall on field savvy - and the fact that perhaps Edelman's experience there allowed us to save a roster spot and go down to just 2 QBs

... and in fact I think for all but one year, the Patriots did indeed go with just the 2 QBs - so I always factor that in to a players' value - all things being equal Edelman wasn't really "costing" a roster spot IMO and that bought him time to develop other areas of his game

Huh? They we're on the same page practically from the moment he first stepped on the field. His first game as a Pat he had 8 catches for 98 yards. That's the same season he had to step up in the last game after Welker blew out his knee and had 10 catches for 103 yards. It was /never/ about being on the same page with Brady it was whether he could withstand the rigors of NFL football without being injured too much.

I was going to say exactly the same. He caught a screen on the far side, got swarmed by 6 defenders, and stayed alive longer than I've ever seen any player stay alive in that situation to eke out 5 yards instead of losing 5. Heart of steel.

That was a great play.

Right then I felt he was even better than Welker at YAC, although Welker at the time was still better at getting open and catching passes.

I actually thought Edelman's correct position might be safety, because he muddled through OK at slot corner and was a hard hitter on STs. On a related note -- he made tackle in the most recent Super Bowl that knocked a guy out of the game.

No offense to the OP, but I couldn't care less about the Pro Bowl, whether our players are voted in or not. Kobe was voted in as an All-Star STARTER. That tells you everything you need to know about those kinds of things. Frankly, only the All-Pro teams matter to me. And even those are extremely subjective. Just keep getting jewelry for the fingers, even the severely bent one. It is good to see him recognized though.

Easy to look back on now and scorn people for not thinking much of Edelman through 2010-2012.

I thought he was a quality ST'er, and serviceable backup receiver who had injury troubles. Admittedly I never imagined that he'd surge as a top receiver in the league and play on par with, if not better than Welker. I don't think many did. Remember Amendola was supposed to be "the guy".

Credit to Edelman for working his ass off. Even now he is playing significantly better than 2013 when he tallied around 100 catches.

Who else remembers when posters were always calling for Edelman to be cut every offseason?

I actaully thought he was better than Welker when we had both....and I was right!!!! :D

I'm not trying to brag because I've been wrong a million times before. Heck, Tom Brady was my favourite college player, and I only started following the team so I could watch him play maybe once or twice before retiring and selling insurance. Missed that one by a bit.

But there was a play in his rookie season that made me really think Edelman could be a star one day. It was that blowout playoff loss in Baltimore when Ray Rice ran for an 83-yard touchdown to open the game and we never recovered, giving up 24 points in the first quarter on the way to a 33-14 blowout. In the 4th quarter down 19, it was 4th and 7, and Jules caught the ball behind the LOS and evaded a few hits, somehow stayed on his feet and kept moving and got hit hard, but kept clawing through people to somehow pick up that first.

But there was a penalty on the play and it got called back, 4th and 17. Absolutely demoralizing. Then Brady hits Jules for 24 and a 1st down.

Watching him fight through those tackles knowing the team needed that first down, I really saw a glimpse of what he could be. And when he should have been crushed, he just kept his composure and made another big play right after.

I never thought he'd be this good, but I saw that he was a true Patriot player that day. When he got hit in the Super Bowl and held on, I wasn't surprised, and I wasn't even really impressed, although it was ****ing impressive. I just thought of that day against Baltimore and that was pretty much what Jules does consistently for us.

EDIT: Found a video of that play if anyone wants to see it.

I doubt it, he seems far more concerned about his sneakers than he does football, and I'm one of those who has stuck by him but his performance this season showed no progress. He seems to lack what Edelman has in spades, heart, desire, toughness and the spirit to fight. I wish it were otherwise because he would be a nice piece for them to have but when you watch Keyshawn Martin come in and win a spot the way he has it is hard to stick by Dobson any longer.

Aaron is just so damn disappointing. I remember everybody here (myself included) was that big bodied deep threat we've been missing since Randy. He looked like a beast in college, had a pretty good rookie year (especially that Pittsburgh game), and then he fell off a cliff. Maybe he'll have a resurgence, idk. But I think the job is pretty much Keyshawn's.

My JE11 moment was Sept 20, 2009 when he had a near 100yd receiving game @NYJ.
I remember that day for other events...but watching him juke around the field was awesome.
