Schlereth: I would be shocked if Denver wins

Probably hard to argue with facts and at least he sees it for what it is.
Only way Pats lose is if 2 key players get hurt.
I know some here may be uncomfortable with the fact that everyone is picking NE and giving Denver no chance. I know "any given Sunday" and all that nonsense ... but sometimes it's just that simple - the favorite, the better team, and the team that has the most favorable match ups steamrolls the underdog.

I was far more cautious going into SB42, for example. Even though we were undefeated, there were clear match up advantages in favor of the NYG, and our performance was diminishing as opposed to peaking at the right time. I was more cautious going into the 2012 AFCCG because that was a team that had played us tough, and we were missing Gronk.

I feel as optimistic as I did going into last year's AFCCG vs the Colts. Barring injury, I would definitely be shocked if we didn't win this one comfortably.
Apparently I'm in the minority considering the Patriots underdogs in this game. No way is this a sure thing. No freakin' way. It's going to be a struggle to come out on top.

the games "we're supposed to win" in the playoffs have always been the ones we lose. there are lots of good reasons why denver can win: they're at home, they have a strong defense, all week they're being told they have no shot. it's going to be tight, watch.

I certainly am not predicting a 45-10 game.

I am predicting a 31-20 game.

If two key players leave the game. Very possible.

I guess my point is that given our injury situation and the intensity of the game it seems likely that 2 key players wont finish the game

Denver is the #1 seed; they are at home; the league is trying to screw us. . . I really wouldn't be shocked if we lost under those circumstances.

OTOH, this is basically the same Denver team that got their collective ***es handed to them at home by a weak Colts team last year. It's entirely possible we could throw such a beatdown on this team that the refs can't save them with making it too obvious (like the 2006 AFCCG ).

Stink is a hypocrite. I'm tired of the "Pats are the masters of pick plays"... especially coming from an ex-Bronco. Pats don't do it much compared to many teams, and the Broncos do it more than any other.

I wouldn't be shocked. They're at home, in a tough place to play, and have a very good defense. When you add that in with the fact that the first contest featured some very questionable officiating, there is a chance that Denver could pull this off.

I would be.......I think they're playing the same recipe as last week........everyone's hurt and nobody knows if these guys will even get out of bed on sunday and than bam

No NFL game is ever easy. However, I expect the offense to function at a high level. And do you for one minute that BB can't devise a superb game plan for this version of Pey Pey?

It's easy to get hung up on the word here...I mean, how many things actually "shock" you? The result of a football game is pretty rarely shocking.

But I will say this, and as others have said: if the Pats stay healthy, and don't turn the ball over, I would be....VERY surprised if they lose.

I can think of at least one...:(

Ah.

Yea that is a trend which is clearly going against us.

Shocked is definitely not the right word to use. If you are "shocked", you really haven't been paying much attention to anything. That's a really good defense, even better in that stadium. That's one of the few stadiums we do lose in. You can use whatever excuse you want, its still remains true. Its a tough place to play. Denver has found ways to win all season despite it not looking pretty. They already beat us this season in that same stadium. Again, use any excuse you want it still happened. Excuses are for losers that couldn't find a way to win.

All it takes is one bad turnover or bad drop in a close game, it could change everything. We have seen first hand this year how one really bad play from one of our guys can completely change the momentum of the game. I am picking the patriots to win because I think we are the better team, period. I just don't see how you can be shocked about the patriots losing to that team, the number one seed, in that stadium, again.

When a 6 seed upsets a 1 seed on the road, that is shocking.

When a 1 seed beats a 2 seed at home, that shouldn't be shocking.
Depends upon the teams. All 1 and 2 seeds are not created equally.
If the Steelers had beaten the Patriots in 2004 AFCCG I would have been shocked.
I put this one in the same boat. The Patriots are clearly a superior team.

Biased Analyst picks against NE- sworn enemy of Patriots fans
Biased Analyst picks NE against his former team- sworn enemy of Patriots fans, can't be trusted, let us hype ourselves into believing NE has little shot.

Got it.

So if I am missing many key players and lose a close game to you, I lost, and the fact that I was missing key players is an excuse for losers, so I stand no better chance of winning with those key players back?
Is that really your position?

No, never said that or implied it. Using excuses after you lose as a reason you lost is something losers do tho. That is my position, yes.

Sure he will, but they have a good running game compensating for Forehead's diminished skills.

The Broncos defense is better than Kansas City's. I think the going will be touch without a running attack.

So there are never reasons?
The Patriots lost to Denver (and others) because key players were missing. Considering it was an OT its a good bet that with those players they probably would have won.
Is that an excuse or a reason?
