Jerod Mayo To IR

The only way to compensate for this loss is to draft a tall WR early.
Are there any real good WR coming out this year? I didn't watch much CFB this year. I really want us to upgrade Lafell and hopefully finally get an outside presence that scares teams.

Whos replacing Mayo on the roster?

At this point I have to assume it is a PS guy. The PS guys are already able to work out to game plan and BB can wait (til as long as sat I think) to a: decide who & b: surprise donks, while someone not on team entirely has to be signed before can practice.

Funny none the less we haven't seen an announcement yet. Maybe it is a tough choice (or whoever won't be in active 46 anyway and they are saving any active roster bonuses ;) )

There is no reason to activate anyone unless they will be active. I suppose, we could add a special teamer.

Off topic but I just want to say I love absolutely anything involving this beautiful woman. I wish I could like your post multiple times.

Also I hope Mayo gets better

Not sure why anyone would "dislike" your comment, but there are always capable young WRs in the draft that can be had in the early/mid rounds. Of course, the faces and names change every year and that's what you're inquiring about specifically, but I'm not even sure that it matters anymore. We've taken top notch guys like Tate, Price, Jackson, Johnson, and Dobson in the earlier rounds and they've basically all failed.

Due to that reasoning, I've basically stopped caring about measurables as it pertains to this position. We have just a good of a shot with late rounders like Givens or Edelman who were pretty much unknowns and off most people's radars. The key may be to bring in another FA acquisition, while taking a flier on a pick or two. Who that is would be anyone's guess.

Does Bostic take Mayo's spot? He was inactive last week.

I'm guessing that any one of the LBs that were out there last week are capable of taking over for a game or two. That would include Watson, Fleming, and Freeny.

Considering Bostic's time with the Patriots is not 'new' coupled with his stark lack of D snaps, whatever BB/MP and staff estimate his playing production level to be must be notably underwhelming. Based on this I'd assume he is not in line for 'next man up' meaningful playing time unless the Patriots are option-less.

Bostic had quite a bit of meaningful playing time with Chicago yet almost nothing with the Patriots. That is a disappointment no matter how you slice it. But with that said, BB/MP and staff are not infallible in their estimations. Maybe if he is thrust into a more critical role he will thrive. Hey, it could happen :)

Why again was Dane Fletcher (and for that matter Chris Jones) IRed?

Like given to counter that dislike

Mayo has always been a fave, played solid when healthy.. however the injuries caught up with him. Good leader on the field stable locker room presence, if there was a knock on him it was his inability to create turnovers..

Without regard, hate to see him go.. but do not fall in love with the older players.. but will miss, "Miss Mayo" at future Superbowl Appearances.. she was probably the most intelligent "journalist" on media day.

Even if you just measured it in Pro-Bowls, i would say yes it was... but as we saw this year there are players that get snubbed because of popularity, or a player taking up 2 positions etc.. so they aren't a good indicator of a players overall success... but the fact that he also was a team captain and leader of the defense were other intangibles that made him a great player for us

Overall, I agree. From 2008 to 2012 the team received outstanding production from him and was worth the top 10 pick.

If you go by the draft philosophy that a top 10 pick is a "decade player" he falls short. With that said, how many players selected in the first round actually have careers longer than 5 years? The NFL says the average career length for first rounders is 9.3 years but not sure I buy it.

He was listed as a safety rather than LB, so it was a bit of a trick question ...
The poster asked me who the player was. I didn't really think about his position.

:( ****

Get well soon, Mayo and I hope the rest of the team wins a ring for you!
You know what sucks about that though . . . he will always remember playing in the one they lost, even if he gets another one to add to the one from last year. That's got to be bittersweet. I know me, anyway, and that's how I'd feel about it.
